RWBTFC receive Community First funding Royal Wootton Bassett Town Football Club are pleased to announce they have received funding of £1,400 from The Hills Group Limited, which will be put towards the purchase of equipment for the club. The money has been made available through the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF) which is administered for Hills by Community First, the Rural Community Council for Wiltshire. Upon receiving news that the club will receive funding, Chairman Andy Walduck commented: "This funding allows the club to complete the purchase of urgently required football goals which will boost sport within the community of Royal Wootton Bassett."

The Hills Group Limited is a privately owned family company which was founded in 1900. It is a regional business based in Swindon, but with operations in the surrounding counties. Its principal activities are recycling and waste management, quarrying of aggregates and production of ready-mixed concrete, and building new homes. Community First is a registered charity and a private company limited by guarantee. With the aim of strengthening communities, growing communities and tackling disadvantage across Wiltshire and Swindon, its team of professional staff provides technical advice, practical support and grant aid to promote local initiatives. Community First also manages countywide programmes bringing benefits to local people, informing and influencing policy makers in the development of rural policies and practices. The Landfill Communities Fund (LCF) is an innovative tax credit scheme enabling operators of landfill sites to contribute money to organisations enrolled with ENTRUST as Environmental Bodies (EBs). The Government introduced tax on landfill waste in 1996 to reduce the amount of land-filled waste and to promote more environmentally sustainable methods of waste management. The LCF allows Landfill Operators (LOs) to contribute a portion of their landfill tax liability to community and environmental organisations to 'offset' some of the negative impacts of living in the vicinity of a landfill site.

Fixtures The league has now published the fixtures until the end of November and these can be seen in the centre pages, along with our Boxing Day fixture against Highworth Town. By the time of reading these notes more fixtures may have been scheduled and these will be included in the next home programme.

Next Here at the New Gerard Buxton Ground After this afternoon’s game we make the midweek trip to Reading to play one of our bogey sides, Highmoor Ibis, before returning here to the New Gerard Buxton Ground next Saturday where we will entertain Brackley Town Saints. Highmoor Ibis are another side who have made a good start to the season and are currently in 3rd place in the table, it certainly doesn’t get any easier. On Bank Holiday Monday we make the trip to Highworth for the big local derby game. Interesting to see that Highworth have lost all three of their opening games and there will be more than just local pride at stake on Bank Holiday Monday.

This will be another very tough game this afternoon but let’s get behind the lads and see if we can get back to winning ways. I will be at QPR this afternoon so will miss the game but look forward to catching up with everyone at the Brackley and Highworth Town games.

Enjoy the game.

Binfield • Club History Binfield FC first played in 1892, during the reign of Queen Victoria, making us one of the oldest Association Football clubs in the world! The team comprised young men from the local brickworks and those who worked on the land around Binfield. The club’s early years were spent in the Ascot and District League, where we enjoyed many successful seasons winning the Fielden Cup for the first time in Are your skills on top form? 1924 and on eleven further occasions since.

During the 2nd World War, we joined the Great Western Combination League, winning the championship in 1947. ComputerWorld offer Training in: During that period we also won the Berks and Bucks Junior Cup and the Maidenhead Norfolkian Cup and it was not unusual to see crowds in excess of 1,000 at our Forest Road ground.  Applications In 1950 we joined the Reading and District League, where we remained for the next forty years. In 1972 Binfield won  Technical promotion to the Premier Division for the first time and although relegated two years later we returned in 1976 as 1st Division Champions. A huge crowd, reminiscent of the 1940’s, packed Forest Road to witness our promotion. In  Professional Development 1980, the club made an important decision to move from Forest Road, where facilities were shared with the cricket club, to our current site in Hill Farm Lane. Turning that field into the football ground we see today was a massive task.  SharePoint Thanks to an enormous amount of physical work by the members of the club the area was levelled and drained within three years. The members then set about building the club house. This progress off the field was matched on  E-Learning it when in 1987 and 1988 we won Division 2 and then Division 1 of the Reading and District League. In 1989, we joined the high-profile Charrington Chiltonian League, winning the Division 1 title at the first attempt – a feat we We can also provide Bespoke Training and even Room Hire at our repeated in 1996 - and reaching the final of the League Cup. The following year we finished runners-up to Peppard, premises in Bristol! despite remaining unbeaten from November until the end of the campaign. Check out our website at www.computerworld.co.uk In 2001 we merged with Binfield’s junior club, Binfield Forest FC, and in doing so significantly increased the member- ship, with over 20 teams playing every weekend – this season we will field 36 teams each week. The junior part of See if there is a Define Tomorrow event near you at the club is very important to Binfield with FA Charter status having been achieved in 2007 and in 2013 we were www.definetomorrow.co.uk awarded the Berks & Bucks FA and South East Regional FA Charter Status Community Club of the Year awards, culminating in the club being invited to the FA Community Shield at Wembley in August 2013. We’re also in our fourth season of a partnership scheme with Reading FC where some of our younger players have the opportunity to train with Reading. In 2003 we added an Allied Counties Youth team which is now providing a steady stream of talented young players ready for Senior football for the Reserves and 1st Team.

Our reserves side are a vital and successful part of our club, providing progression from our youth team into senior football and regularly providing players for the 1st team squad, whilst also being successful in winning Uhlsport Hellenic Division 2 East in 2012 and again in 2014. Moving to the Suburban League for a new challenge last season, our reserves excelled, winning the league on the final day and later bringing the Ascot Fielden Cup back to Binfield FC for the first time since the 1970s, which the club first won in 1924! In 2015/16 the side consolidated in the Suburban Premier Division and retained the Fielden Cup. Our reserves also provide the bridge from youth into senior football with our Allied Counties players a regular feature of reserves teams and many of our regular reserves stepping up into the 1st team when called upon.

Since 2005, progress at the club has been swift, with the addition of floodlights and later a seated stand. The club is tirelessly working to improve our facilities with our “continuous improvement” plan making further change to the car park, to the club house and a new stand around our Tea Bar. We constantly strive to improve all elements of the facilities from changing rooms to a playing surface we are extremely proud of, to benefit everyone from our Under 6s up to our 1st Team and Veterans. We won the FTL Hellenic League Division 1 East title in 2008-09 and gained promotion to the next level of English football, where we finished runners up in the 2010/11 Uhlsport Hellenic Premier Division, 3rd in 2012/13 and 5th in 2014.

August 15th 2009 will long be remembered as Binfield’s first game in the legendary FA Cup – and we have enjoyed some good runs reaching the 1st Qualifying round in each of the last two seasons with 400 supporters enjoying the visit of Margate in 2010 and a trip to Slough Town and narrow defeat in 2011. In 2013 the side reached the 2nd Qualifying round, losing to a 96th minute free kick as Leatherhead came from behind. Binfield entered the FA Vase for the first time in season 2008-09 and enjoyed three rounds, before reaching the 4th round (last 32) in 2011/12 in an incredible season of cup success. The 2011/12 team is the most successful in our history, winning both the Berks ComputerWorld are proud sponsors of & Bucks FA Senior Trophy and the AM Print & Copy Floodlit Cup in five glorious April 2012 days. We also reached the final of the Hellenic Challenge Cup. Wootton Bassett Town Football Club

Congratulations to Andy Guppy, who was crowned as the 2015-16 RWBTFC Fantasy Football League champion for a second season in a row this week! In retaining his fantasy crown, Guppy avoided the fate of reigning champions of the actual , Chelsea, whose title defence quickly descended into a mediocre scrap for a mid-table position. That's not to say that it was a walk in the park for the Royal Wootton Bassett Town Reserve team player though.

As with last season, Guppy's winning margin was a slim one. Totaling 2,240 points, he finished just sixteen ahead of Reserves stablemate Ben Brown and 2013-14 winner Michael Case. Furthermore, with seventeen weeks of the season to go, Guppy stood a whopping 100 points behind long-time league leader Scott Large. However, Large's advantage - like the bubbles in the anthem of his beloved West Ham United - faded and died, and with eight weeks remaining he had slipped to fourth place. Guppy by now was in front, albeit by a slim margin. Yet, showing the same mentality as the real Premier League winners Leicester City, he ground out solid point totals the rest of the way. There was a brief moment after the 33rd gameweek when Brown pulled level on 1,906 points, while his lead stood at a mere five ahead of the penultimate round. Nevertheless, canny selections meant Guppy withstood the pressure of those breathing down his neck to once again etch his name on the Fantasy LeagueFantasy trophy. Football Previous Meetings He now joins Sam Lawro, who finished in fifth place, as a two-time winner.

Cool Heads Prevail The Triangle Ground, 13th August 2016 It wasn't so much superior quality that helped Royal Wootton Bassett Town open their league account for the 2016-17 campaign. Rather their ability to keep their heads, while opponents Henley Town self-destructed, having three men sent off, was vital to securing three points that will hopefully kick-start a season that had got off to a stuttering start. At half time the scores were deadlocked, there being little to separate the teams. Bassett came close twice in the early exchanges, TJ Bohane missing a header from an Alioune Diouf cross and Sam Packer hitting over from a Bohane cut back. Henley had a pair of decent opportunities too, but Ben Blackwell struck over from close range and Grant Kemp saw a firm effort palmed away by emergency 'keeper Steve Yeardley. On balance though it had been an extremely scrappy opening stanza, made the more frustrating for the spectator by the number of fouls and whistle happy nature of the man in the middle. Soon after the restart though, the hosts - promoted as the third place side in Division One East - gifted their visitors a numerical advantage that quickly spiralled. Jordan Goddard was first dismissed for raising his arms before Blackwell received his marching orders , earning a second yellow for a rash challenge on Packer. Only when two men better off did Bassett break the deadlock, Steve Robertson delivering the opener as he converted a Bohane cross. Brad Hoy then got a straight red for handling on the line, and Bohane, who has created a handful of goals this season, bagged his first of the season from the spot. Henley were now rowing against a swelling tide with just eight men on board. Despite having a trio of players sent for early showers though, the hosts managed to get on the scoresheet when Jack Thomson took advantage of some slack defending and halved “Bassett Pies” the deficit. Delicious pies, made using fresh, local ingredients But Packer made certain of the points for Paul Braithwaite's team, following up on great work from Bohane to add Bassett's third, the move having been initiated by Jonny Aitkenhead's fine interception and pass.

Welcome tonight to early leaders Thame United to the New Gerard Buxton Ground and well HELLENIC LEAGUE FLOODLIT CUP SPONSORED BY PERPETUA PRINT done for the start you have made. With Thame being top of the table this will be a tough SEASON 2016-17 game here tonight. With Thame having defeated Highworth Town on Saturday we will be looking to restore some Wiltshire pride tonight. This evening we play a side that have scored First Round 16 goals and are looking like one of the in-form teams for the season. We've had a hard start Abingdon United v Fairford Town to the season on many fronts but on the pitch our first game was against newly promoted AFC Aldermaston v Clanfield' 85 champions Carterton. I missed the game myself but was told we controlled the game for large parts and Brad, TJ, Bailo and Maxi going forward caused all sorts of issues. Olphy and Didcot Town Res v Hook Norton Davs in centre-mid controlled the game and the back four for large parts looked comfortable. North Leigh v Milton United Early in the second half we had a couple of chances to put the game well out of Carterton’s Rayners Lane v New College Swindon reach but that 3rd goal alluded us. Carterton got themselves back into the game after a poor Sandhurst Town v Woodley United free kick was awarded for a Carterton player running into one of our players. From the free Shrivenham v Cirencester Town Dev kick a goal was scored. Following that a few defending errors also cost us two preventable goals. To hear about the disappointment in the team after shows they care and would be Wantage Town Res v Tytherington Rocks keen to get things sorted soon. Second Round For Andover in the FA Cup we unfortunately had no goalkeeper available after Kurtis v Sharkey having a long term hand injury and Gary Eggeleton away we were left looking for a v keeper. Reserve keeper Harry Ellis who is another very good keeper at the club was also v injured and will be out until September. We were helped out by Stonehouse FC who v provided us with a loan keeper. After exhausting every possible avenue to bring one in we were pleased to have this help. For 25 minutes of this game we dominated all over and v created many chances. Unfortunately that slice of luck didn't come for us to take the lead v and after three moments of defensive lapse we were 3-0 down and out the game. In the v second half we had plans to score an early goal but again a mistake giving away a penalty v from our young stand in keeper gave Andover a 4-0 lead. We worked hard and showed v great character to go and score 2 goals and cause a little panic in the Andover side. Pushing v for a 3rd we left ourselves wide open and on a breakaway a missed tackle again led to v another penalty being given by the ref. Game over Bye Henley away we travelled with what was a really experienced Bassett side; the most Bye experienced I've seen in my 3 seasons at the club. A group of men took to the pitch and Bye from the off controlled the game and again created so many chances it could have been Bye over at half time but we were sat wondering how it was 0-0. Henley in the first half got frustrated with us passing the ball and picked up a few yellow cards that would end up Bye costing them. In the second half the same routine continued with us looking the better of the Third Round two teams. TJ was causing all sorts of issues with his work rate and he was elbowed in the v face when closing down a header in the half way line and a straight red followed. Only moments later again as we took a patient path to find that first goal the Henley number 4 v flew high into the back of Sam Packer and picked himself up a yellow and then the Henley v Town number 7 decided to vent his fustration at the ref. Having picked up a yellow in the first v half he was shown a second and left the pitch. Steve Robertson came on for Ali and with his v 3rd touch headed us into the lead. More chances came and when Robo unleashed a great v right foot effort towards the goal with the ball about to ripple the net for some reason a defender on the line saved the ball with his hand. Down to 8 men TJ perfectly placed the ball v into the net and gave us the lead that was needed. Discipline was the key till this moment v and with the senior heads all over the pitch in blue shirts keeping cool after some shocking tackles by the home side. Henley scored a stunning strike from 25 yards. With 5 players to Quarter Finals beat a touch out from the feet head down and an unstoppable strike was placed into the v corner of the goal. It was important that was the only slice of luck we gave away. Within v moments we had a two goal lead again after some good work from Robo and TJ, Pacs late v run was found for him to score from 10 yards. A professional performance and a deserved 3 v points. The win The Non-League Paper’s chief reporter Sam Elliott looks longingly into his crystal ball! 5 Dunstable Town 4 3 0 1 7 5 9 came courtesy of a Matt Smith goal. 6 Merthyr Town 4 2 1 1 9 5 7 GIVE us your predictions, they said. What could go wrong, they said. A fair bit, actually. I’ve had managers with Cirencester Town visited Dorchester 7 Chesham Utd 42 1 1 7 4 7 the hump that I didn’t tip his team for promotion, and a day later one dodge my calls because I did – apparently Town and game away with a point heightening the pressure on him by doing so! Prophecy is not always welcome in football. Ask Ian Holloway, or 8 Kettering Town 4 2 1 1 5 3 7 as he’s now referred to as a “Failed player, failed manager and now a f*****d pundit”. Not by a fan who has lost 9 Slough Town 4 2 1 1 5 3 7 following a 2-2 draw. This was his head on twitter, but Aston Villa owner Dr Tony Xia. Holloway dared to suggest they may not finish in the top 10 St. Ives Town 4 2 1 1 4 4 7 Dorchester’s first point of the season half of the table, you see. Maybe Ollie had a little smirk after Villa sunk at Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday. It’s 11 St. Neots Town 4 2 0 2 9 8 6 and they remain at the foot of the table. not easy sticking your neck out. But here are my thoughts with all the league up and running as of this weekend. 12 Redditch Utd 4 2 0 2 8 7 6 Leamington are the only side with a National League: 13 Weymouth 4 2 0 2 5 7 6 Perhaps the most telling signing arrived the week before the season. Defender Ryan Cresswell is on big money 14 Hitchin Town 4 1 2 1 5 6 5 100% record, this following a 1-0 home at Eastleigh but he and striker Mikael Mandron are top players. The title could be between the Spitfires, 15 Kings Langley 4 1 1 2 7 5 4 win over much fancied Merthyr Town. Tranmere – they’ve had a productive summer – and, if they start well, Lincoln City under the brothers Cowley. 16 Hayes & Yeading Utd 4 1 1 2 4 4 4 Cheltenham came up and went down last year, Bristol Rovers the season before but I don’t expect a repeat. York 17 Cirencester Town 4 1 1 2 5 9 4 City don’t have a manager with any Non-League experience, and the signing of Richard Brodie is a On Saturday Chippenham Town are at headscratcher. Dagenham & Redbridge have the best boss around but finances are tight. Keep an eye on 18 Cinderford Town 4 1 0 3 7 6 3 Gateshead, I like the look of Wrexham under Gary Mills – the play-offs for them this time – and on paper, 19 Stratford Town 4 0 3 1 4 6 3 home to leaders Leamington whilst Aldershot have a team with half a chance. Boreham Wood will push on. 20 Cambridge City 4 0 2 2 4 7 2 Cirencester Town visit Merthyr Town. 21 Basingstoke Town 4 0 2 2 2 7 2 National League North: 22 King's Lynn Town 4 0 2 2 4 11 2 Potentially the best league around. Where to start? If the club isn’t a big one, it’s an historic one. If it isn’t either of South & West Division One West those it’s probably a club like AFC Fylde with a benefactor and a new stadium. The best summer signing is FC 23 Biggleswade Town 4 0 1 3 2 9 1 Halifax’s Billy Heath. Although Jim Harvey’s departure lacked class, at least they’ve replaced him with a winner. 24 Dorchester Town 4 0 1 3 2 11 1 Hereford continue to lead the way in the After taking North Ferriby up last year, I expect him to do the same. Stockport County under Jim Gannon will be stronger, and the teams coming up – Darlington and Salford City will be predicted to challenge. I don’t think either 2016-2017 Season South & West Division after a 3-0 away will have the know-how to be in contention for the title. Altrincham know the league, but it’ll be play-offs at best for Evo-Stick Southern League win at Shortwood United. Hereford are Neil Young’s side. Kidderminster Harriers begun brilliantly but they need a good first season under John Eustace and I expect a top five push. Chorley are my surprise tip to shine – Jason Walker is a great addition. Division One South & West now the only side with a 100% record P W D L F A PtsPts after Swindon Supermarine were held to National League South: 1 Hereford 4 4 0 0 14 3 12 Just when we were thinking this is not the money league it once was, Chelmsford City go and secure huge new 2 Swindon Supermarine 4 3 1 0 11 4 10 a 1-1 draw by Slimbridge. The goal for investment. They may well have a go. Ask Ebbsfleet fans if a wide wallet guarantees success. It certainly doesn’t, 3 Mangotsfield Utd 4 3 0 1 7 4 9 the Swindon side came from Connor but past experience shouldn’t stop Daryl McMahon getting the job done this season - providing the loss of striker 4 Matty Godden doesn’t show. Hampton & Richmond with an eye-catching 4-2-1-2-1 formation love the get the ball Wimborne Town 4 3 0 1 7 4 9 Waldon who headed in at the far post down and play - the play-offs aren’t out of the question. Maidenhead under Alan Devonshire are another to keep 5 Tiverton Town 4 2 2 0 9 2 8 from a Callum Parsons cross. an eye on, there’s been huge turn over at Whitehawk and you get the feeling the foreign invasion on the south 6 Slimbridge 4 2 2 0 8 5 8 coast is either going to work brilliantly and they will be title contenders or they’ll belly flop. 7 Barnstaple Town 4 2 1 1 5 5 7 8 Taunton Town 4 2 0 2 7 4 6 Salisbury returned to winning ways with Ryman League: Welcome to Lee Bradbury’s biggest season in football. Lucky to keep his job after Havant & Waterlooville were 9 Paulton Rovers 4 2 0 2 5 2 6 a 4-1 home success over Bishops relegated with a huge budget, he knows the talking must stop for the big spending Hawks. In Wes Fogden they 10 North Leigh 4 2 0 2 7 5 6 Cleeve. This win lifted Salisbury up into have re-added class, and in Bognor’s front two Alfie Rutherford and Jason Prior 60 goals. Dulwich need to get up 11 Bideford 4 2 0 2 8 7 6 th this year, striker Gavin Tomlin is a great bit of business. Staines Town under Johnson Hippolyte should be up 12 Salisbury 4 2 0 2 8 8 6 12 place. The crowd of 581 was just 14 there. The Swans lost top scorer Pat Cox to Merstham, who could make the play-offs - as should Lowestoft. 13 Shortwood Utd 4 2 0 2 3 6 6 short of that at Shortwood where Worthing and Harlow will make use of their 3G pitch and won’t struggle. In the North there’s no stand-out team so 14 Larkhall Athletic 4 1 2 1 9 6 5 AFC Hornchurch and Thurrock will fancy the title. The South seems stronger. Hythe Town are a good tip but Hereford fans must have made up a Lewes under the excellent Darren Freeman should do well. Guernsey will be better this year too. 15 Evesham Utd 4 1 2 1 5 4 5 sizeable portion of the crowd on the 16 Didcot Town 4 1 1 2 7 9 4 Evo-Stik NPL 17 Winchester City 4 1 0 3 7 13 3 night. The division seems to be more balance now Salford’s spending power and Darlington’s upward movement are 18 AFC Totton 4 1 0 3 5 11 3 gone. That should play into Blyth Spartans’ hands with Tom Wade’s fruitful summer. Beware the teams coming 19 up, last year told us that. Stafford Rangers could be up there, adding George Bowerman is good business, Bishops Cleeve 4 0 2 2 3 9 2 On Saturday the teams take a break Warrington certainly won’t be worried about the step up. Ashton United are play-off regulars but never seem to 20 Yate Town 4 0 1 3 2 8 1 from league action as they enter the FA get over the line, they should be around the top five again. Stourbridge look a force and Workington could have a 21 Wantageg Town 4 0 1 3 3 11 1 real go. Northwich Victoria finished third in the North last year but now they’ve moved to the South they will be 22 Bridgwater Town 4 0 1 3 3 13 1 Cup. Swindon Supermarine are at home either be an unknown force or they won’t know the opposition. Shaw Lane will have a say, but AFC Rushden against Odd Down and Salisbury also probably would rather be down south. In the North, Hyde if they can stop their three-year rut should make the play-offs on their new 3G pitch. Glossop and Burscough may be in contention with the league’s top three clubs have a home tie when Bitton are the from last year all gone. visitors.

Evo-Stik Southern A lot of eyes are on Terry Brown at Basingstoke after his shock appointment but this is a long-term project, so don’t expect a sustained challenge from the Dragons. That may come from Leamington - who went so close to an instant Step 2 return last time - and Weymouth, who go in on the back of a good summer. It’s may seem a lazy choice but there’s a history of go-again clubs taking Step 4 in their stride, so Hereford for me in the Southern League South & West. Farnborough were very strong towards the end of their Ryman Premier season and would have stayed up if it wasn’t for CVA rules. Spencer Day finds good players but Egham, Bedford and Royston will all be up there. Royal Wootton Bassett Town F.C. Season 2016-17 First Team Line-ups, Results and Fixtures
