Message from the Director: Welcome back ISC!

Many thanks to the PTA for providing a week filled with treats and surprises to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week -what a nice gift to return to following the break. As always, your continued support is greatly appreciated!

Good luck to seven of our choir students who depart today with Ms. Allison and Mr. Sosa. They will be participating in the Panama Choir Festival hosted by the International School of Panama. Our students will have the opportunity to learn and work with other students from the region. Other participating schools include: Ameri- can International School (Quito, Ecuador), Carol Morgan School (, ), Colegio Menor de Quito, Euroamerican School of Monterrey (Mexico), Escuela Campo Alegre (Caracas, Venezuela), Graded School of São Paulo, The Grange School (Santiago, Chile), International School Nido de Aguilas (Santiago, Chile), International School of Panama, and the International School of Curitiba (Brazil).

The experience for the students will wrap up with a Gala Concert performed together by all students from every school combined. The concert will be streamed live on Saturday at 7 pm through this link: Gala Concert.

Wine & Bubbles fundraiser: Saturday, May 18th. Please see the poster for details. All proceeds will be used to purchase new cafeteria tables, a new portable stage for the covered area and off-campus performances, and new bleachers for the gymnasium. As always, it is going to be another fun evening with live music, drinks, and food. The event is open to everyone, not only ISC families; please spread the word that tickets are now available at the main of- fice for purchase. Thank you!!

May 8, 2019 I AM ISC VOLUME 4, ISSUE 32 Middle School News: 6th Graders Connect With The Cay On Wednesday, April 17 the 6th grade class trav- eled to Punda to connect with the novel The Cay by Theodore Taylor. The setting of the nov- el starts off in Curaçao during WWII and many of the places described can still be visited to- day. Students completed a photo scavenger hunt all around Punda. They also visited the Mikvé Israel-Emanuel Synagogue and learned a lot about its history from the spiritual leader Hazzan Avery Tracht. Students, parents, and Ms. Coul- son finished off the morning at Plasa Bieu enjoy- ing many local dishes including fish and funchi just like the characters in the novel. Students were respectful, thoughtful, and enthusiastic rep- resentatives of ISC.

May 8, 2019 I AM ISC VOLUME 4, ISSUE 32 Elementary News: Digital Citizenship in Computer Class Students in 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade have been working on digital citizenship during computer class. Respective- ly, they've worked on selecting websites that are right for them, writing emails and understanding everything about their digital footprint. The message with all grade levels is simple, just as we strive to be good citizens of the world, we should strive to be good citizens online. Just as we take measures to stay safe in real life, we have to ensure we stay safe online.

The week prior to the break, grade 3 went for a short visit to our IT office to talk to Mr. Raoul and Ms. Gali- cia. They showed us how devices are connected, monitored and reminded us how a digital footprint is truly, permanent. It was an eye opening experience for them.

On this same note I wanted to share Common Sense Media. This site contains a wealth of information on apps, websites, movies for parents to stay current and have meaningful conversations at home. Algunos artículos estan disponibles en español. I hope you make some time to check it out.
