Racecourse: Start at 6.30 a.m at the Europakanal, Hilpoltstein. Leaving transition area 1 at the Europakanal in Hilpoltstein, athletes tackle two laps on the bike course each of about 85.5 km - additionally they take 9 km to transition area at the park-and-ride lot at the Hilpoltsteiner Straße in Roth. From there, the marathon leads along the “Europakanal” up to Schwanstetten and back via Haimpfarrich through the city-centre of Roth to the finish line in the Triathlon Park.

Participants: 3,400 single starters 650 relay teams

Nations: Athletes from 62 nations

Duration: Maximum finish time is 15 hours for single starters, 13.45 hours for relay teams.

The Race Courses

Swimming - 3.8 km

Start and finish at the canal landing stage in Hilpoltstein. Swimmers start in south direction and turn for home after 1.9 km. Finish below the canal bridge Hilpoltstein- Allersberg.

Cycling - 180 km

The cycling course begins at the canal landing stage in Hilpoltstein and leads over two loops of 85.5 km each, followed by a closing of 9 km back to Roth. The looped course leads from Eckersmühlen to Wallesau - Laffenau – Seiboldsmühle - Heideck - Selingstadt - Alfershausen - Thalmässing - Greding - Röckenhofen - Obermässing - Karm - Weinsfeld - Eysölden - Tiefenbach - Unterrödel - Hilpoltstein - Solar - Pierheim - Mörlach - Hilpoltstein - Heuberg - Haimpfarrich back to Eckersmühlen. 90% percent of the course is closed far traffic. The climbs are a signature feature of the course, with 3 climbs between 6 and 10% at a length of 800 m to 1.5 km.

Hot spots for spectators are the Kalvarienberg at Greding, the “Solarer Berg” at Hilpoltstein, the „Biermeile“ at Eckersmühlen, the town centres of Seligenstadt and Thalmässing.

Running - 42.195 km

The marathon run is a combination of two courses with the Lände Roth as a central point. From the P+R Roth, the course leads directly to the Lock of Leerstetten and further on directly to Schwand (first turning point). Athletes then run back to Haimpfarrich – Eckersmühlen to the second turning point and back through the centre of Roth with the two hotspots market square and “Kugelbühlplatz” to the finish at the Triathlon Park in Roth.This course is mainly flat with the exception of two short climbs; 70% of the run is over soft forest trails and 30% over asphalt.

Hot spots for spectators are the “Triathlon Park” in Roth, the “Lände Roth”, lock of Leerstetten, turning point 1 in Schwand, the canal bridge in Eckersmühlen-Eichelburg, the new hot spot at “Speck Pumpen”, the “Erdinger Alkoholfreie Powerzone” at the “Lände” Roth as well as the city centre of Roth.

Time Taking/Medical Care

Time Taking

The race will start in 20 groups (see timetable)

After the start the time runs non-stop for each athlete until he crosses the finish line. The time is not interrupted for changing clothes, breaks, etc.

Additionally, each discipline has a time limit: for the swim 02.10 h swim and bike 09.30 h swim, bike and run 15.00 h

Competitors who do not meet these time limits will be taken out of the race.

Athlete Care

5,700 volunteers from 53 clubs are taking care of the athletes during the race.

Medical Care

Medical care will be available throughout the swim, bike and run courses. At the “Main-Donau-Kanal”, ten motorboats and three troups of divers will be on duty during the swim.

More than 360 medical assistants and 16 doctors will be present during the race.

To ensure traffic safety for athletes and spectators, police will appoint 280 officials on the course.
