Settlement Journey so far 2020: We are here 1992 Treaty negotiations continue WAI87 submitted Continuing negotiations at the same time as having a 1994 Whakatōhea starts direct District Inquiry – a parallel process negotiations with the Crown The Crown and Whakatōhea negotiated an Agreement in Principle in 2017. The 1996 negotiations were put on hold during an iwi-wide voting process recommended by the Offer of $40m made to Waitangi Tribunal following its inquiry into the Trust’s mandate a Treaty settlement on Whakatōhea behalf of Whakatōhea.
