Brecon and Radnorshire WYP Cartesian Divers Flames are no match for us! Foam smothers the flame Evergreen Event Presentation Christmas Rockers An enormous congratulations to the John Beddoes Campus U16 Hockey Team who played outstandngly to become Runners Up of the South Powys U16 Hockey Tournament, Wednesday 26th September at YCC Llandrindod Wells Campus. The girls flew through their pool games beating YCC Builth Wells Campus 4-0, YCC Llandrindod Wells Campus 5-0 and Brecon High School 7-0! Needless to say the girls were the top goal scorers of the whole tournament - da iawn! The girls then went on to face Christ College Brecon in the final. Despite their heroic efforts the girls lost 2-0 in a thrilling final. Well done girls, you were a credit to the school! The team co-captained by Hannah Bright and Grace Hamer consisted of: Beth Ryan, Holly Dodgson, Jess Evans, Tilly Neary, Mair Hughes, Frankie Jones, Seren Rhodes, Beth Burgin-Lynch, Grace Licence-Law and Hannah Jones. Congratulations to the U13 and U16 JBC Netball Teams who played outstandingly at Christ College Brecon last Friday 5th October. Out of nine teams in the U13 age group the girls made it to the semi-finals having some fabulous victories in the pool games including an impressive 9-0 victory against Crickhowell High School and a 3-1 victory against a very strong Brecon High School team. It was a gripping semi-final U13 SQUAD which could have gone either way. However, the girls lost out to Gwernyfed High School who then went on to win the tournament. The team captained by Rhianna Golder consisted of Tilly Barnett, Zinnia Neary, Emelia Watts, Megan Powell, Emily Morris and Alisha Preece. As for the U16's they had some excellent results beating Crickhowell High School 9-0, Gwernyfed High School 8-4 and Ysgol Calon Cymru Llandrindod Wells Campus 9-2. Well done captain Grace Hamer, Chloe Preece, Hannah Jones, Seren Rhodes, Daisy Tyler, Frankie Jones and Mair Hughes. U16 SQUAD A massive congratulations to Molly Hardwick, Frankie Jones, Seren Rhodes, Daisy Tyler and Emma Jones on their selection for the Powys Netball Hub. The girls were successfully selected at the Powys Hub Trials held at Brecon Leisure Centre on Sunday 7th October involving pupils from all over Powys. We can now plan for the future with increased confidence for a future of stable education for all our students, from 11-18. Another busy term is almost over and Christmas is rapidly approaching. Once again this has been a very busy time and it never ceases to amaze me how many activities we are able to fit in. There is a very lively and positive atmosphere around school and students are achieving amazing things, many of which are included in this magazine. Good There have been lots of developments to improve the school environment over the summer, and of course our new uniform has been introduced with students looking incredibly smart. The new uniform has proved a greater success than Behaviour even I would have predicted. I have received many compliments from members of the local community regarding the smart appearance of our students both Award verbally and in writing. Students also seem to be enjoying the new uniform. My particular thanks to all parents for being patient in waiting for deliveries due to the A Good Behaviour Award is given large volume of new uniform purchase.

All maintained settings will be using the new curriculum by 1 September 2022. They envisage that schools would have some flexibility in determining how and when they begin first teaching of the new curriculum. WG expect some schools to be ready to start this transition soon after the new curriculum is made available, others will want to take a little longer. Working with practitioners WG committed to reflect on what this means for learners who are part way through a course of study leading to a qualification. Estyn’s guidance handbook for the inspection of secondary schools published in September 2017 contains the following reporting requirements for the inspector of 3.2, The breadth, balance and appropriateness of the curriculum:- ‘Inspectors should approach innovation and flexibility of approach in a positive way when schools have tried to be creative and imaginative in taking forward well-considered curricular initiatives for the benefit of pupils. We have taken into consideration all the documents since the Engagement Document alone provides rather more vision than plan, and lacks sufficient detail with which to engage. “A deep scepticism” [page 9, Case for Change] Estyn in July 2019 identified a clear pattern of failure to take hard decisions or robust action by local councillors and the education services department. Estyn identified that: “self-evaluation processes and improvement planning are weak… There are many areas of the authority’s work causing significant concern such as those relating to school organisation, financial management.” “The quality of reports presented by officers to scrutiny varies, and the lack of candid reporting has meant elected members are generally unsighted to the gravity of issues and their implications. By commissioning provision from a range of providers, the school is not limiting its options as it would in a collaboration with a single provider. Expanding its menu of subjects will increase the learner retention rate, which will in turn will lead to increased funding. It will enable the development of an attractive curriculum that meets the needs of learners in the area, the community and the local economy, and it will ensure that learners from the Ystradgynlais area are not disadvantaged as they are currently.
