Secondary Junior Primary Pre-School Secondary Junior Primary Pre-School (3 and 4 Year Old Provision) Powys County Council Information for Parents 2018/2019 Primary and Secondary Schools Information and Admission Arrangements Introduction Dear Parent/Guardian, Starting primary school or secondary school is a huge milestone in the lives of you and your child. It is an exciting time for children and parents. However it can also be a time of anxiety as you decide which schools to apply for and wait to see if your application has been successful. This booklet produced by Powys County Council is designed to make the application process as smooth as possible and to provide information that will help you make an informed decision about the schools that will best meet the needs of your child. There is a lot of information available about any school. It is recommended that you obtain a copy of a school’s prospectus and visit your local schools. There is also information about all the schools in Powys on the Welsh Government My Local School website with the address being http://mylocalschool.wales.gov.uk/index.html?iaith=eng Every parent and carer wants their child to thrive and achieve well at school. Excellent attendance and punctuality are important in this. Your support in ensuring this will enable your child to make the most of their time in school. Our aim is to provide a first class education for the children of Powys, working in partnership with schools, governors, parents and carers. We want all children and young people in Powys to have the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills and characteristics to achieve their potential. I wish your child every success for their future. Yours sincerely Ian Budd Cyfarwyddior Addysg / Director of Education 2 Introduction Section 84 of School Standards and Framework Act 1998 and the Welsh Government’s School Admissions Code (July, 2013) and the School Admission Appeals Code (December, 2013), www.wales.gov.uk/educationandskills lays down specific requirements concerning the information to be made available to parents regarding schools and the admission arrangements to them. This booklet has been produced to give you that information. You may express a preference for admission of your child to any primary or secondary school listed in this booklet. If for any reason you are unable to obtain a place for your child at the school of your preference, you have the right of appeal to the Appeals Panel established by the Local Authority (L.A) for that purpose. Applications should be made to the Principal Officer, Admissions & Transport, Schools Service, Powys County Hall, Llandrindod Wells, Powys, LD1 5LG. Further information in respect of the Admission Appeals process is shown at Sections 22 & 23 of Part 1 of this booklet. If you wish to know more about a particular school, the school prospectus, which is a more detailed booklet, may be obtained direct from the school concerned. If you would like to enquire about the availability of this booklet in another language, Braille, Large Print, Tape or other electronic formats please contact the Admissions & Transport Team. If you think there are any ways in which this booklet could be improved to make it easier to understand and use, please feel free to contact the School Admissions Officer at the address and telephone number given on the previous page. 3 Information and Advice The Admissions and Transport Team are based in Powys County Hall, Llandrindod Wells, and are always available to give any advice on school admissions and transport policy and entitlement on the following contact details: Contact Anne Wozencraft - Principal Officer Admissions & Transport Tel: 01597 826477 Admissions and Entitlement Officers Clare Davies Delyth Powell (part –time) Rachel Davies (part –time) Tuesday to Friday Monday to Wednesday Monday, Thursday and Friday Tel: 01597 826477 E-mail: [email protected] General enquiries - 0845 6027030 Llandrindod Wells Head of Schools Service Powys County Council County Hall Llandrindod Wells Powys LD1 5LG Passenger Transport Unit 01597 826438 North Powys (inc. I am sincerely grateful to the efforts of everyone who has helped contribute to the making of this Plan which is so important for the future of Powys. Importantly, the Plan sets out a clear and strong strategy for meeting the future needs of the county’s communities over the next decade. By focussing development on our market towns and largest villages, it provides the direction and certainty to support investment and enable economic opportunities to be seized, to grow and support viable service centres and for housing development to accommodate our growing and changing household needs. At the same time the Plan provides the protection for our outstanding and important natural, built and cultural environments that make Powys such an attractive and special place in which to live, work, visit and enjoy. Our efforts along with all our partners must now shift to delivering the Plan for the benefit of our communities. Councillor Martin Weale Portfolio Holder for Economy and Planning

  • 'IARRIAGES Introduction This Volume of 'Stray' Marriages Is Published with the Hope That It Will Prove
S T R A Y S Volume One: !'IARRIAGES Introduction This volume of 'stray' marriages is published with the hope that it will prove of some value as an additional source for the familv historian. For economic reasons, the 9rooms' names only are listed. Often people married many miles from their own parishes and sometimes also away from the parish of the spouse. Tracking down such a 'stray marriage' can involve fruitless and dishearteninq searches and may halt progress for many years. - Included here are 'strays', who were married in another parish within the county of Powys, or in another county. There are also a few non-Powys 'strays' from adjoining counties, particularly some which may be connected with Powys families. For those researchers puzzled and confused by the thought of dealing with patronymics, when looking for their Welsh ancestors, a few are to be found here and are ' indicated by an asterisk. A simple study of these few examples may help in a search for others, although it must be said, that this is not so easy when the father's name is not given. I would like to thank all those members who have helped in anyway with the compilation of this booklet. A second collection is already in progress; please· send any contributions to me. Price £2.50 Number 1 October 2003 A warm welcome to the Forum’s first Newsletter and a big thank you to all of the contributers who have produced articles for this issue. Thanks also to Lin Norton for producing the cover heading. As Editor, producing this Newsletter has been very much a steep learning curve, particularly getting to grips with ‘new technology’ so if there are any glitches in what you actually receive please bear with me. We had intended producing this Newsletter in two formats, electronic and hard copy, in order to keep the costs down and speed up distribution. However, due to the size of the finished copy it is probably too large to send to most of you as an e-mail attachment so, for the time being, we are producing it in hard copy format. Hopefully, in due course, we will be able overcome this problem so that those of you able to receive electronic communications can receive it in glorious technicolor. This first issue covers a wide range of topics from planning issues to individual building stones as well as Forum business, short notes and the first field meeting report. Jonathan Adams’ article on Cardiff’s Millennium Centre is a fore-taster for the field trip on 29th November the details of which, along with those of all of the Forum’s other meetings until the end of 2004 are to be found elsewhere in the Newsletter. Below is a report and reminder from Tim Palmer for all those of you who have yet to pay your first subscriptions.

FINAL PROPOSALS Community No. M29 - LLANGYNIEW Introduction 1. The present community of Llangyniew largely comprises hill country that falls to the river Banw or Einion in its south and the river Efyrnwy in its north. The small village of Pontrobert, lying to the north-east of the community, has experienced a fair amount of housing development in recent years; it has a good range of community services and facilities, and just over quarter of the population now lives in that village. The remainder of the population lives in scattered farms and dwellings and in the rural settlements of Llangyniew and Heniarth. The rapid development of the largely new settlement of Pontrobert has meant that this community is perhaps no longer the homogeneous community that it once was. Its south-eastern part is traversed by the B4389 and the A495 and A458(T), which provide easy links with Llanfair Caereinion, Meifod and Welshpool, and the residents of that area would look to those settlements for their services before they would look to Pontrobert. 2. The community has a population of 539, an electorate of 453 (2005) and a council of 7 members. The precept required for 2005 is £3,158.61, representing a Council Tax Band D equivalent of £12.19. 3. In the 1986 Review, the continued viability of the then community of Llangyniew was questioned, and there were proposals to either dismember Llangyniew or to merge it with Meifod or Llanfihangel to form a two-ward community. Those proposals fell in the face of strong opposition from Meifod and Llangyniew community councils, supported by petitions of local inhabitants.
