While I had hoped we could all be together in person for a momentous occasion such as is our 50th, the timing due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic just wasn’t right. As a matter of safety, our board of governors made the difficult but responsible decision to hold our gala virtually once again. While you may be watching us from the comfort of your home, your accomplishments are no less significant. We encourage everyone to share their celebratory moments on social media using the hashtag #EmmySF50. I want to extend a heartfelt congratulations to all our nominees and recipients tonight. The standard of excellence to earn either a nomination or receive an Emmy® statuette by The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) is an honor to celebrate. Our local chapter is one of 19 chapters across the country and our members are made up of media professionals in not only San Francisco and Sacramento, but Eureka and Chico/Redding to the north, Reno, Fresno, Salinas/Monterey on the central coast, Hawaii, and even Guam. Tonight would not be possible without the hard work of Emmy® Gala Chair Joyce Mitchell, Awards Chair Wayne Freedman, Gala Editor Steve Shlisky, Toby Momtaz and Ken Day with their help our on-location production, Patty Zubov with her help with sponsorships, Larena Baldazo for her help with social media, our Board of Governors for their consistent support and guidance. I would also like to thank Breathless Wines for providing a discount for our members to toast and celebrate with their sparkling wines as well as our sponsor Cotchett, Pitre & McCarthy LLP. As I close out the first year of my presidency, I am inspired to see the resiliency of members of our chapter who continue to produce excellent, award-winning work. My thanks go out to Past-President Steve Shlisky for having the confidence in me to nominate me for this role and for his continued mentorship and support as I grow with our chapter. Congratulations once again to all our nominees and recipients tonight. While you will not be handed an award in person we hope that you will be able to share your celebration with your family and friends. Next year we hope you will join us to celebrate face-to-face once again at our 51st Northern California Area Emmy® Awards scheduled for Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Hilton San Francisco Union Square. Randy Forsman NATAS Chapter President ~ 5 ~ Producer’s Welcome Joyce Mitchell Executive Producer, 4U Productions Vice President, Sacramento 2019-2022 National Trustee 2020-2022 Governors’ Award 2017 Governors’ Service Medallion 2015 Silver Circle, Class of 2010 With an abundance of heart and soul, the 50th Annual Golden Gala Emmy® Awards Committee teamed up to provide you with the very best interactive viewing experience possible. We’ve represented markets throughout our region, documented history as we celebrate this monumental Golden Emmy® Anniversary while also saluting TV icons with the Governors’ Award and two Governors’ Citations. I’ve produced dozens upon dozens of documentaries for television, produced Gubernatorial Debates, Town Halls, and thousands of Newscasts. But never before have I had the honor of undertaking a project of this magnitude – of saluting the hundreds of people nominated for submitting their very best work for the Emmy® Awards contest. And believe me, it’s a tough contest. The Awards Committee, under the guidance of Chair Wayne Freedman assures that. The Emmy® is held to very high standards in our chapter and earned for excellence. Please know that if you receive a statue tonight, you are among an elite group of people who’ve worked hard to assure that the very best of the best is being recognized. The 2021 50th Golden Gala is virtual again this year as we rebound from COVID-19. First and foremost, we want to protect the health and well-being of our members, their families and friends. And yet, we’ve been innovative and managed to incorporate interactive social media with a pre-produced webstream that tells the whole story. Recipients are announced from markets throughout region and the online acceptance speeches and Zoom rooms may, in some cases, steal the show. We’ve even provided you a bottle of bubbly at a discounted price to celebrate with your peers and family. Thank you To Breathless Sparkling Wines. Next year, I look forward to seeing you all in person at the Emmy® Awards Gala in San Francisco. Meanwhile, this year, sit back in the comfort of your home or party place, and enjoy. And congratulations to all of the nominees. If you receive an Emmy® tonight, remember, you’ve been honored and earned a golden statuette – a lady with wings that represent the arts. She’s holding an atom – representing science. Compelling storytelling coupled with technological advancements have made this award possible.
