Global Assignment Editor Location: [North America] [United States] Town/City: Monrovia, CA Category: Communications Job Type: Fixed term, Full-time PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Global Assignment Editor provides day-to-day oversight of the Share web-based communications assignment and reporting system, maintaining and developing it as a key WV Partnership platform for assigning and receiving communications tasks and as an online library of written resources. The administrator is the first line of support for communicators at all levels who need assistance using Share. He/she produces reports based on Share statistics to support capacity building of communications staff and performance appraisal in World Vision's communications teams. This role oversees and manages (either directly or in a collaborative or matrixed capacity) the work of regional Share editors to ensure a consistent and high quality flow of edited and user-ready content. The position will align and coordinate the Share approach to content creation with the Global Communications strategic goals, and collaborate in design, planning and execution of projects to meet future partnership communications needs. The position will continue to develop Share for required functionality and systems abilities, coordinating with GC Communications Shared Services and GC IT teams as required. The position liaises with the Global Content and Community Voice and Regional Field Content teams to align capacity building and organisational approaches, primarily focussing on developing national communicators' skills including via the Communications Academy. In addition to monitoring Share for items of interest to External Communications and partners, the position may be requested to commission and edit content, and may be called upon to originate new material him/herself. The position contributes to the management of content flow between Share and other communications sites of the WV Partnership, creating entries based on Share resources for partnership websites. It provides editorial and posting support to WVrelief during the intial period in times of crisis, reinforcing the global and regional teams’ efforts to provide 24-hour coverage of relief emergencies when necessary. The position oversees the ‘Share’ mailing lists, the posting of external communications documents to the GC Website and other projects related to Global Communications activities. It provides a back-stop support to the GC Field Communications management, occasionaly supporting the management of WVI.org, WVrelief and the Media Resource Centre. Page 1/3 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: -Manages the daily operation of the Share story assignment system on behalf of all categories of users, performing routine tasks and carrying out specially-assigned projects to ensure high-quality stories and written information are available for Partnership use, with clear linkages to visual and image resources. -Monitors and reviews assignments and pitched ideas, endeavouring to ensure that each is responded to in a timely fashion and intervening to avoid problems. -Requires that SO assignment editors ensure that finished communications products are entered into the Share system at the earliest possible opportunity after assignments are completed. -Provides support to users through the Share help email tool and by creating quarterly and annual reports on usage based on Share statistics including (but not limited to) communicators’ individual performance, national office workload, regional communications activity and support office assignment patterns. -Collaborate in design, planning and execution of projects to meet future partnership communications needs. -Participate and contribute to any working groups which engage with field communications content processes, especially relating to SHARE. -Liaise and support the Global and Regional Field Content team to align capacity building and organisational approaches, primarily focussing on developing national communicators' skills including via the Communications Academy. -Manage and evaluate the performance of regional editor/s under supervision. Maintain adequate contact with editors through matrix reporting to ensure appropriate workflow. -Increase collaboration with regional communications directors and National Office communications managers to advise them of areas of strength and improvement with their. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Required: -Degree in journalism, public relations or a similar communications discipline. -Excellent written skills in English, with a superior knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation, as well as excellent fluency in spoken English. -Demonstrated work experience in editing, journalism or news media. -Demonstrated experience in developing and managing teams. -Experience coaching writers and helping them develop their skills. -The ability to write in correct English to World Vision style, and a minimum of two years experience in proofreading or copy editing. Preferred: -A strong storyteller who understands the elements of a good story, has good news judgment and has a deep knowledge of global issues, especially from the designated region(s). -A thorough, organized and fast worker and editor who pays attention to details and has the ability to coach writers whose first language may not be English. -An independent worker who has experience working cross-culturally, has strong interpersonal skills, an attitude that fosters collaboration, and is comfortable working remotely, using telephone, e-mail, Skype and other communications tools to full effect. -A proven track record for meeting deadlines and working on multiple projects simultaneously. -Facility using a variety of technical including proprietary applications for daily work processes; understanding user requirements Page 2/3 and an ability to communicate them, with a view to further improving systems and work flow.
