Loron Pinot Noir Vin de France, IGP Puy de Dôme, France £9.99 £7.99 Lovely ripe red fruit balanced with refreshing acidity. The volcanic soil adds complexity. Made by the famous Beaujolais wine family, Loron (established 1821).

Clos des Vieux Marroniers Terra Vitis Beaujolais Nouveau 2013 £9.99 £8.29 This light bodied wine is oozing fresh cherry and red berry fruit flavours. The long ripening period has enhanced the fruit flavours and made 2013 a must try.

Caleo Negroamaro, Salento, £7.99 £5.99 A gorgeous, plump red bursting with dark, plummy fruit and sweet spices. An immediate, juicy wine. Negroamaro is grown almost exclusively in Puglia and particularly in Salento.

Paitin Barbaresco Sori Paitin 2009, Piedmont, Italy £39.99 £29.99 "94/100. The estate’s 2009 Barbaresco Sori’ Paitin shows the rich, generous style of the year, but with plenty of underlying structure. Tobacco, sweet spices and licorice float from the glass in this powerful, intense Barbaresco. Exotic hints of spice and orange peel linger on the finish. This is yet another totally compelling wine from Paitin. The 2009 spent 18 months in cask. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029." (Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate)

It's huge on the palate, with cola, blackberry, white pepper and black tea flavours . The medium tannins and alcohol don't overpower the fruit, making this a wonderful example from a country just dabbling in this grape.

Jurtschitsch Pinot Noir Reserve 2007, Kamptal, Austria £31.99 £24.99 Ripe, red fruit, good tannin, fresh acidity, quite full bodied, it’s long, balanced with a smooth finish. “90/100 It has a lovely pale colour and appealing Pinosity with rhubarb and beetroot aromas over some spice and vanilla, and a red berry fruitiness coming through. The oak is fairly obvious, but the whole, tobaccoey picture is appealing. In the mouth this is quite a substantial style; it is not at all heavy or ponderous, but there's a ripeness and textural weight and a chocolaty depth to the fruit. Spices and a nice sweet earthiness as well as good cherryish acidity show into quite a long finish in an impressive Pinot Noir.” Tom Cavannan’s Wine-pages)

Tormentoso Mourvedre 2010, Paarl, South Africa £10.99 £8.99 "89/100. Lots of sweet berries, a hunk of chocolate dunked in for good measure with some coffee notes coming through." (The Tasting Note) "88/100. Ripe, with a nice silky feel to the crushed black cherry, blackberry and roasted spice notes. An anise edge lingers on the finish. Fresh and defined.” (Wine Spectator)

Botalcura Nebbiolo 2008, Maule Valley, Chile £21.99 £14.99 "SILVER MEDAL" (Wines of Chile Awards 2012) AN ABSOLUTE FIRST. The first Chilean wine made from this classic Italian varietal (of Barolo fame). Fresh fruit leads on the intense nose, with notes of strawberry and blueberry complemented by spices such as green pepper, cardamom, and tea, all backed up by well-integrated toast and oak. These notes carry on to the well structured palate of pronounced tannins, healthy acidity and deep concentrated flavours.

Corinto Chardonnay 2012, Central Valley, Chile £6.99 £5.99 Enticing aromas of white peach and pineapple. Nicely balanced on the palate, well-rounded and fruity with a succulent finish. Unoaked and fresh.

Aldridge Chardonnay 2010, South Eastern Australia £8.99 £5.99 Ripe melon and apricot fruits on the nose. Tropical melon flavours are present on the palate with a clean finish.

Stoneburn Sauvignon Blanc 2013, Marlborough, New Zealand £9.99 £8.99 Stoneburn is owned by Hunter's Vineyard, but operated separately. This Sauvignon Blanc shows classic grassy characters underpinned with hints of peppers. Its zesty, tangy acid structure is supported by a mineral-like backbone. The vineyard here is in an old riverbed, in the Wairau Valley, whose stones retain warmth and give the fruit a high degree of ripeness.

Brookford Colombard Chardonnay 2010, South Eastern Australia £7.99 £4.99 From the heartland of Australia. The Colombard contributes a crisp refreshing zestiness whilst the Chardonnay adds weight and fruitiness. Tropical notes (mango) balanced with green fruit (grapefruit). Rich and luscious.

Martín Códax Alba Martín Albariño 2012, Rias Baixas, Galicia, Spain £10.99 £9.99 Intense and elegant aromas with hints of white stone fruits and white flowers. Camillo di Lellis Biferno 2010, , Italy £8.99 £7.99 Molise is the second-smallest region in Southern Italy, bordering Abruzzo, Lazio, Campania and Puglia. Its wines began to gain recognition in the 1980s with the creation of the Biferno and Pentro di Isernia DOCs. Straw yellow with a nose showing ripe stone fruits. Santa Ana Extra Brut NV, Mendoza, Argentina £10.49 £8.99 From hand harvested grapes. 80% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Noir. Fruity aromas such as apple and pineapple combine with those from being aged “sur lie” such as toasted bread. Full, fresh and lingering flavour. Stone fruits are more prevalent on the palate.

It is harmoniously well balanced and generously opulent, an almost liqueur-like sweet wine. Drink it at 6°C with blue cheeses like stilton and Roquefort, or with Munster, or Foie Gras, or with desserts like fruit tarts: apple, pear, dates or just on its own.
