In this preliminary study, some cases likes geology, mineralogy and geochemistry (major and trace element data and stable Isotope) of this deposit in surface and depth are investigated for determine of genesis. The analyses carried out on samples from 14 drill cores and 15 surface profiles (vertical to veins strike). Mineralization occurs in 3 main veins with thickness about 0.5 to 3 meters in the length about 900 m that in (resent) exploration this length increases. Main ore minerals are hydrozincite, hemimorphite and smithsonite. The mineralogical and geochemical evidences indicate that Chah-Talkh deposit is a typical supergene nonsulfide Zn-Pb deposit in carbonate rocks that primary sulfide ores almost has been affected by deeply weathered. Mineralization in Chah-Talkh is generally associated with fracture zones and dolomitization. It seems that distribution of hemimorphite, smithsonite and hydrozincite is reflection of existing of clay minerals in host rocks. In presence of clay minerals (in marly limestone) main ore mineral is hemimorphite and in absence of clay minerals (micritic limestone) main ore mineral is hydrozincite and smithsonite. -

SELLY Rollinson, G.K., Le Boutillier, N. and Selly, R. 2018. Cobalt mineralisation in Cornwall – A new discovery at Porthtowan. Geoscience in South-West England, 14, 176–187. Although cobalt mineralisation has been noted in Cornwall and Devon in the mining literature, there are limited details of its production and paragenesis; detailed mineral studies of cobalt are almost non-existent. This paper describes in detail previously unrecorded cobalt mineralisation discovered at Porthtowan, Cornwall, in the vicinity of old workings which are part of the Wheal Lushington group of mines, immediately west of the village. A small number of massive sulphide/gangue samples (taken from a larger sample suite) were chosen to be as representative as possible. Analysis was carried out using a QEMSCAN® automated mineral SEM-EDS system, which found that samples contained up to 50% cobaltite, along with chalcopyrite, bornite, galena, sphalerite, acanthite, erythrite, matildite, chlorargyite and other primary and secondary mineral species. This assemblage is typical of a sub-type of crosscourse mineralisation, with secondary species a result of significant weathering and supergene alteration, complicated by seawater infiltration due to the coastal location. While the number of samples is limited, the detail of the mineralogical assemblage is significant, as it is the first time such an assemblage has been subjected to this level of scientific scrutiny in Cornwall. 1 Camborne School of Mines, University of Exeter, Cornwall Campus, Penryn, Cornwall, TR10 9FE, UK. -

Introduction Cornwall's mining history stretches back 2,000 years; its mineralogy dates from comparatively recent times. In his Alphabetum Minerale (Truro, 1682) Becher wrote that he knew of no place on earth that surpassed Cornwall in the number and variety of its minerals. Hogg's 'Manual of Mineralogy' (Truro 1825) is subtitled 'in wich [sic] is shown how much Cornwall contributes to the illustration of the science', although the manual is not exclusively based on Cornish minerals. It was Garby (TRGSC, 1848) who was the first to offer a systematic list of Cornish species, with locations in his 'Catalogue of Minerals'. Garby was followed twenty-three years later by Collins' A Handbook to the Mineralogy of Cornwall and Devon' (1871; 1892 with addenda, the latter being reprinted by Bradford Barton of Truro in 1969). Collins followed this with a supplement in 1911. (JRIC Vol. xvii, pt.2.). Finally the torch was taken up by Robson in 1944 in the form of his 'Cornish Mineral Index' (TRGSC Vol. xvii), his amendments and additions were published in the same Transactions in 1952.
