puerto Ricans at the Dawn of New Millennium The Stories I Read to the Children Selected, Edited and Biographical Introduction by Lisa Sánchez González The Stories I Read to the Children documents, for the very first time, Pura Belpré’s contributions to North Puerto Ricans at American, Caribbean, and Latin American literary and library history. Thoroughly researched but clearly written, this study is scholarship that is also accessible to general readers, students, and teachers. Pura Belpré (1899-1982) is one of the most important public intellectuals in the history of the Puerto Rican diaspora. A children’s librarian, author, folklorist, translator, storyteller, and puppeteer who began her career the Dawn of the during the Harlem Renaissance and the formative decades of The New York Public Library, Belpré is also the earliest known Afro-Caribeña contributor to American literature. Given the unpromising projections, voices of resistance, anger, frustration, uncertainty, and hope are becoming increasingly visible on the island’s cities’ walls and spaces. Thus, based on the current situation of fiscal crisis, this visual essay narrates and documents the continuum of interpretations and opinions regarding the Puerto Rico Oversight, Management, and Economic Stability Act (PROMESA) inscribed in the urban fabric over the past five years from now. Keywords: street art, bankruptcy, fiscal crisis, austerity, Puerto Rico Resumen Desde el 2016, el Estado Libre Asociado de Puerto Rico experimenta un período de desafíos políticos junto con una severa austeridad económica. Dadas las proyecciones, las voces de resistencia, ira, frustración, incertidumbre y esperanza son cada vez más visibles en las paredes y espacios de las ciudades de la isla. Por tanto, dada la situación actual de crisis fiscal, este ensayo visual narra y documenta el continuo de interpretaciones y opiniones sobre la Ley de Supervisión, Gestión y Estabilidad Económica de Puerto Rico (PROMESA) inscritas en el tejido urbano durante los últimos cinco años. -

The report should not be construed as a working document by the reader. -May 1, 2008- Abstract This project, sponsored by the Compañía de Tourismo de Puerto Rico focused on expanding Best Environmental Practices in the small inns and hotels of Puerto Rico. The project included interviews with CTPR staff, outside experts, audit visits to eight inns, and extensive background research. The project concludes with several recommendations with appropriate initial suggestions to CTPR for BEMP expansion including: a webpage for small inns and hotels with extensive BEMP information, a brochure explaining BEMPs, and a student involvement program. ii Executive Summary The goal of this project is to address the issue of communication between the Compañía de Tourismo de Puerto Rico (CTPR) and small hotels and inns in Puerto Rico regarding the use of best environmental management practices (BEMPs). -

TSD: Chapter 36 Final Round 3 Area Designations for the 2010 1-Hour
Technical Support Document: Chapter 36 Final Round 3 Area Designations for the 2010 1-Hour SO2 Primary National Ambient Air Quality Standard for Puerto Rico 1. Summary Pursuant to section 107(d) of the Clean Air Act (CAA), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (the EPA, we, or us) must designate areas as either “nonattainment,” “attainment,” or “unclassifiable” for the 2010 1-hour sulfur dioxide (SO2) primary national ambient air quality 1 standard (NAAQS) (2010 SO2 NAAQS). Our Notice of Availability (NOA) and our Technical Support Document2 (TSD) for our intended designations for the round of designations we are required to complete by December 31, 2017, provided background on the relevant CAA definitions and the history of the designations for this NAAQS. Chapter 1 of this TSD for the final designations explains the definitions we are applying in the final designations. The TSD for the intended Round 3 area designations also described Puerto Rico’s recommended designations, assessed the available relevant monitoring, modeling, and any other information, and provided our intended designations. This TSD for the final Round 3 area designations for Puerto Rico addresses any change in Puerto Rico’s recommended designations since we communicated our intended designations for areas in Puerto Rico. It also provides our assessment of additional relevant information that were submitted too close to the signature of the NOA to have been considered in our intended designations, or that have been submitted by Puerto Rico or other parties since the publication of the NOA. This TSD does not repeat information contained in the TSD for our intended designations except as needed to explain our assessment of the newer information and to make clear the final action we are taking and its basis, but that information is incorporated as part of our final designations. -
Sitios Arqueológicos De Ponce
Sitios Arqueológicos de Ponce RESUMEN ARQUEOLÓGICO DEL MUNICIPIO DE PONCE La Perla del Sur o Ciudad Señorial, como popularmente se le conoce a Ponce, tiene un área de aproximadamente 115 kilómetros cuadrados. Colinda por el oeste con Peñuelas, por el este con Juana Díaz, al noroeste con Adjuntas y Utuado, y al norte con Jayuya. Pertenece al Llano Costanero del Sur y su norte a la Cordillera Central. Ponce cuenta con treinta y un barrios, de los cuales doce componen su zona urbana: Canas Urbano, Machuelo Abajo, Magueyes Urbano, Playa, Portugués Urbano, San Antón, Primero, Segundo, Tercero, Cuarto, Quinto y Sexto, estos últimos seis barrios son parte del casco histórico de Ponce. Por esta zona urbana corren los ríos Bucaná, Portugués, Canas, Pastillo y Matilde. En su zona rural, los barrios que la componen son: Anón, Bucaná, Canas, Capitanejo, Cerrillos, Coto Laurel, Guaraguao, Machuelo Arriba, Magueyes, Maragüez, Marueño, Monte Llanos, Portugués, Quebrada Limón, Real, Sabanetas, San Patricio, Tibes y Vallas. Ponce cuenta con un rico ajuar arquitectónico, que se debe en parte al asentamiento de extranjeros en la época en que se formaba la ciudad y la influencia que aportaron a la construcción de las estructuras del casco urbano. Su arquitectura junto con los yacimientos arqueológicos que se han descubierto en el municipio, son parte del Inventario de Recursos Culturales de Ponce. Esta arquitectura se puede apreciar en las casas que fueron parte de personajes importantes de la historia de Ponce como la Casa Paoli (PO-180), Casa Salazar (PO-182) y Casa Rosaly (PO-183), entre otras. Se puede ver también en las escuelas construidas a principios del siglo XX: Ponce High School (PO-128), Escuela McKinley (PO-131), José Celso Barbosa (PO-129) y la escuela Federico Degetau (PO-130), en sus iglesias, la Iglesia Metodista Unida (PO-126) y la Catedral Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe (PO-127) construida en el siglo XIX. -

Firpo ii ABSTRACT The Orlando Metropolitan Statistical Area became the fastest growing Puerto Rican population since 1980.1 While the literature has grown regarding Orlando‘s Puerto Rican community, no works deeply analyze the push and pull factors that led to the mass migration of Puerto Ricans to Central Florida. In fact, it was the combination of deteriorating economies in both Puerto Rico and New York City (the two largest concentrations of Puerto Ricans in the United States) and the rise of employment opportunities and cheap cost of living in Central Florida that attract Puerto Ricans from the island the diaspora to the region. -
