Penticton Indian Band 841 Westhills Drive Penticton, British Columbia Canada V2A 0E8 Telephone: 250-493-0048 Fax: 250-493-2882 Position Title: Mental Health and Wellness Lead Classification: 14 Health Manager Department: Health Responsible To: Status: 1 Full-Time Hours of Work: 35hrs week Range: Penticton Indian Band Salary Grid Location: Snxastwilxtn Centre, 198 Outma Sqilxw Place, Penticton, BC, V2A 6J7 Closing Date: Open until filled Job Summary: This position requires the development and maintenance of Mental Health and Wellness related programs, projects and services. In addition, the job will require programs; projects and services include Indigenous/Syilx knowledge, beliefs, values and best practices. Critical job responsibilities include case management, case monitoring and relevant staff supervision of up to five staff. Administrative responsibilities include program policy development, work plan development, budget management and reporting. Preference will be given to qualified Aboriginal applicants as per section 21 of the Human Rights Code. Responsibilities: Family and Community Wellness Practice Lead the ongoing development of Mental Health and Wellness programs to ensure program work plans are developed which are reasonable and measurable Maintain current case coordination, including chairing case management meetings as required; support staff as required with assessment and referral processes, including short and long-term case planning Promote the values and principles of the Okanagan – Syilx Mental Health and Wellness Plan within community and with partners Remain current on trends and research, related to Indigenous/Syilx methodologies an perspectives, in order to best facilities and deliver expert advice and support. Ensure that appropriate health team staff are current in developments, both in theory and in practice Contribute, integrate and collaborate with PIB internal staff and external professionals as needed Planning and Program Development Ensure appropriate program planning and deliverables are met Participate in and provide mental health and wellness perspectives/input into the ONA Syilx Mental Health and Wellness Plan Collaborate with external service providers and professionals such as Okanagan Nation Alliance (ONA) and specialized mental health and wellness delivery partners Maintain current in relation to regional, provincial, and federal mental health and wellness strategies Administration FORM NO: ALH (05/12) Strategically utilize assigned budget to ensure fiscal responsibilities are met such as contract deliverables, and program expenditures Lead and support, as required, the completion of funding proposals and grant applications Promote community awareness and understanding of Okanagan mental health and wellness Ensuring all monthly, quarterly and annual reports are completed in a timely manner; Actively participate in assigned PIB health Department and community events; Other duties as appropriate and required for this position, as per direction of Health Manager Ensure the Penticton Indian Band (PIB) Mental Health& Wellness programs’ manual is implemented, including records management, and that specific program manual guidelines are implemented and reviewed regularly. In collaboration with the Health Programs Manager, undertake the development of strategies, policy, standards and procedures Qualifications: Master’s Degree in social work, child & youth care, psychology or similar field Minimum of 3 years work experience in a supervisory or management role is required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Demonstrated experience and knowledge working with Indigenous individuals who are managing mental health and wellness challenges, including active knowledge of traditional wellness an healing practices Experience working in a First Nations community is essential, and knowledge of the Okanagan Syilx culture, protocol and k=language Knowledge of vicarious trauma and self-care techniques and training, with a focus on a strength based clinically and culturally valid interventions The interpersonal skills required to work with other individuals and groups Proven coordination. Facilitation and conflict resolution skills, including focus groups Must be knowledgeable of the Federal and provincial Government programs and plans Be in compliance with appropriate professional regulatory body, standards and ethics Proven ability to support and lead teams effectively, including time management and conflict resolution skills. Excellent computer (Microsoft Suite) and organizational skills, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills Indigenous Ancestry preferred A reliable vehicle and valid BC Driver’s License and driver’s abstract required Flexible work hours/willingness to work on evenings and weekends Current criminal record (vulnerable sector) check with the RCMP. Working Conditions: Majority of the work is done at the Snxastwilxtn Centre, where the office space is located. May also include outreach to individual homes, community school/daycare and surrounding business centers. Must adapt and problem solve quickly in a multidisciplinary team environment.
