EL AMA UTA NÚM. 12 NOVIEMBRE 2020 EL AMAUTA NÚM. 12 NOVIEMBRE 2020 Historia de la Radio en Arecibo Manuel Santiago Santos Expresidente de la Asociación de Radiodifusores de Puerto Rico Aunque la radio en Puerto Rico se estableció un 3 de diciembre de 1922, con la emisión de la señal de WKAQ Radio El Mundo, no es hasta 21 años después, un 15 de octubre de 1945, que la Villa del Capitán Correa contó con su propia estación de radio. Arecibo ha sido la cuna de importantes figuras de la radio, así como de destacados músicos, cantantes y compositores. De ahí nace esa unión entre la radio y la música. Personalidades de la música como el arecibeño Raúl Balseiro, participaban activamente en los programas de la emisora WKAQ en San Juan. Casualmente para el 1934, otro arecibeño, Juan Pizá, inauguró WNEL, que fue la segunda emisora radial de Puerto Rico y estaba ubicaba en el Viejo San Juan. Pizá se convirtió en el primer puertorriqueño dueño de una emisora radial en su tierra. WNEL fue la primera estación en implementar el concepto de radio teatro y se especializó en ese tipo de programación, donde se transmitía presentaciones musicales y pequeñas obras de teatro o pasos de comedia con público en vivo. WNEL, además, fue la primera estación en suscribirse a una agencia de noticias del exterior y en traer artistas del extranjero para presentarlos en sus programas. Grandes figuras de la historia de la radio laboraron en esa estación, como por ejemplo Mariano Artau quien debutó en 1939 a través del noticiario El Heraldo, que se trasmitía de 7:00-8:00 a.m., mientras que Rafael Quiñones Vidal presentaba su programa de aficionados Tribuna del Arte, cuna de tantas estrellas de la música en la isla. -

The Application includes an unopposed request by Arso for waiver of Section 73.3555(a) of the Commission’s Rules,1 which sets forth the limits on the number of stations a party may own in a local radio market (the “Waiver Request”). For the reasons set forth below, we conditionally waive Section 73.3555(a) and grant the Application.
