6 COLLEGE PROFILE Sreekrishnapuram V. T. Bhathathirippad College is a first grade Government Aided college affiliated to the University of Calicut aimed at promoting higher education in the rural and backward region of Sreekrishnapuram in the of state .The college is named after V. T. Bhattathiripad who is acknowledged as one of the pioneers of social revolution in Kerala. V. T. Day is commemorated on 12 th of February every year to pay homeage to the great social reformer, V. T. Bhattathiripad. Established in 1982,the college is a higher education initiative managed by Sree Sankara Trust,a charitable organization that upholds the principles and ideologies of Adi Sankaracharya,the most renowned Advaita Vedanta philosopher and theologian of Namboothiri origin (Brahmin).The college had its humble beginning as a junior college with two pre-degree Groups. upgradedto a degree college with the introduction of BA Sanskrit in 1991. It was further raised to a First Grade college with the sanction of M.SC. Computer science in 2001. At present the college offers six degree courses and two PG Courses. SUPREME COURT DIRECTION ON RAGGING As per direction of the Hon. Supreme Court of India on Ragging and the orders of various authorities, rag- ging in any form inside and outside the college campus will be seriously dealt with. Ragging is a non bailable criminal offence. Any type of behavior including ges- tures, talk or action hurting the self esteem of the per- son will come under the purview of ragging. Any such incident reported will lead to the immediate expulsion of the student from the college. The case will be handed over to the police immediately. Culprits will be banned from undergoing education for three years in a recog- nized institution anywhere in India. 57 COLLEGE RULE 1. Students must observe strict discipline in the campus; behave with dignity and courtesy to the Principal, faculty members, administrative staff, visitors and fellow students. 2.No students shall enter or leave the class without permission of the teacher. 3.Students shall not loiter through the corridors or along the veranda during the class hours. 4.Legal action will be initiated against those who destruct or cause to destruct the properties of the college under existing laws including the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act 1984. 5. Irregular attendance, Insubordination to Teachers, Habitual inattention to class work, Obscenity in word or act are sufficient reasons for th e permanent or temporary dismissal of the student. 6.No meeting or entertainment shall be organized or any fund collected in the college campus without the permission of the Principal. 7. Banners, flags, posters, etc. shall not be allowed inside the campus or at the gates or compound walls for purpose of any activity without the permission of the Principal. 8.Students guilty of going over to other colleges or institutions to take part in acts of indiscipline such as organizing demonstrations or strikes will be deemed especially culpable and be punished accordingly. 9. Principal shall have the power to inflict the following punishment: fine, loss of attendance, loss of term certificate, suspension, compulsory issue of T.C. and expulsion.

58 10. Students shall wear uniform on the prescribed occasions and days. Students should always keep dignity and decency in dressing. 11. Students shall always wear identity cards issued by the college with tag and show them as and when demanded by the Principal, teachers and staff. 12. No student shall use or keep in possession alcoholic drinks or drugs. Using/keeping of these items will lead to immediate expulsion of the student from the college. 13. The College Management and Principal shall take appropriate measures to insulate the college campus from political activism and external intervention, to safeguard the interests of students, academic community, parents and the general public. Students and staff shall co-operate with all such measures including the mode of College Union elections as decided by the College Management and Courts from time to time. 14. Conduct certificate will not be issued as a matter of course. Good conduct has to be earned by the student. The Principal’s decisions shall be final regarding the conduct of students. 15. On the basis of the orders issued by various authori- ties including the Hon.’ble High Court of Kerala (WP (c) 23377/09) the use of mobile phones in the Col- lege Campus is strictly prohibited. A fine of Rs. 500/ - will be imposed on those who violate this rule. Mo- bile phone with Camera shall be confiscated. A sur- prise Inspection Squad is formed to implement the rule. 59 16. Students who are charged in criminal offence and are under suspension shall not be allowed to enter the campus without permission. 17. There shall not be any discrimination against any community or category of students of the college and immediate stringent action will be taken against the erring students/officials/ faculty members. 18. Photography/ video /audio recording and playing in the campus is strictly prohibited. Programs in the college shall be covered only by the persons officially authorized by the Principal. 19. Students are not allowed to bring vehicles into the campus. They have to park their vehicles at the allotted place at their own risk. Stunting and racing of vehicles within and in a radius of 200 metres outside the campus are strictly banned. Parking permits will be issued to physically handicapped students and they have to park their vehicles at the area allotted. 20. Students and staff members can make use of the Grievance Redressal mechanism available in the college. 21. 60 ATTENDANCE AND LEAVE OF ABSENCE 1. Attendance will be taken at the beginning of every hour of work and students are expected to be present in the class during all hours of work. 2. No. student shall be absent from the class without leave. 3. Absence from class for an hour will be considered as absence for half a day and for two hours as absence for the whole day. 4. Application for leave for periods exceeding three days at a time should be supported by a letter from the guardian or and a medical certificate in case of illness. 5. A student absenting from the college for more than fifteen consecutive days without satisfactory explanation is liable to have his name removed from the rolls. 6. A minimum attendance of 75% of total working days of the year is absolutely necessary for promotion and for admission to the University Examination. 7. The annual certificate will not be granted unless a student has completed the course of instruction to the satisfaction of the college authorities and his progress and conduct are satisfactory. 8. Students whose attendance falls below the minimum shall apply for exemption to the university through the principal. Application in the prescribed from shall be accompanied by a

In no case will exemption be granted by the university if the shortage of attendance exceeds 24 days. No exemption will be granted during a course for more than one academic year. The application for condemnation should be made in the prescribed form which can be had from the university at a cost of Rs. 10/-. 9.No. application for exemption will be recommended by the principal, unless he is satisfied that the shortage of attendance was due to causes beyond the student’s control. RULES REGARDING COLLECTION OF FEE 1. Tuition fee will be collected in three terms in the months of June, October and January. The first term fees including the special fees prescribed will be collected from the students of senior class with in a period of seven working days beginning from the re-opening of the college. In the case of junior classes tuition fees from the first of June till the date of admission with special fee and caution deposit will be collected on the date of admission. 2.Subsequent instalment will be collected on or before the 7 th consecutive working day of the month concerned. 3. If any student fails to pay the fees prescribed 62 on the due date he/ she shall be liable to pay a fine of Rs. 5/- along with the fee on or before the 10th day after the due date. 4. If the fees with the fine of Rs. 5/- is not paid on or before the last date, an additional fine of Rs.10/- will have to be paid. If the fees and fine of an instalment are not paid before the last opportunity given for payment of that instalment the name of the student will be removed from the rolls of the college with effect from the date following the expiry of this period and the date of removal from the rolls of the college. If the student is to be re-admitted he/she has to seek a special permission of the principal and also has to clear all arrears of fees with fines and to be paid Rs. 50/- as re-admission fee. The re- admitted student will get the benefit of attendance only from the date of re-admission.

INTERNAL QUALITY ASSURANCE CELL(IQAC) IQAC has become a part of our college for catalytic involvement in the quality sustenance and enhancement after the NAAC accreditation visit in 2009. Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) as proposed by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) is constituted at Sreekrishnapuram V. T. Bhattathiripad college to improve the performance of institution in higher education sector and for quality upgradation of the college. The prime tasks of the IQAC in our college is to: 1. Improve the quality of various academic and administrative activities of the college. 2. Organize workshops, seminars. 3. Preparation of the Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR).

67 NSS NSS unit (NO: 118) of our college was established in 1985 with Prof. Rajasekharan Nair as the first Programme Officer. The significant increased inter- est among the students to join NSS activities let to the formation of an additional unit (141). Ever since its inception, NSS has been providing unprecedented services to the society in and around the college. NSS activities are majorly delivered over regular works. Special 15 days camps (during Christmas Vacation ) are conducted in each academic year.

PTA Parent Teachers Association, a statutory body composed of parents of students and members of the teaching staff of the college, has been functioning effectively in our col- lege from 1983. Right from the beginning, the PTA is ac- tively functioning in our institution. A direct link is es- tablished with parents by conducting Class PTA’s every 3 months. As a part of the student welfare scheme, the PTA of our college has instituted a Medical Insurance Scheme under which all the students of the college are covered. The policy covers, among other things, permanent or par- tial disability due to accident and death due to accident or disease. 68 COMMITTEES 1. Admission Committee An Admission Committee consisting of Head’s of the de- partments, management committee member is consti- tuted at the onset of each academic year. The commit- tee strictly adheres and abides by the rules laid down by Govt. of Kerala and the University of Calicut. A nodal officer is appointed by the Principal of the institution. 71 VARIOUS CELLS 1. Anti Ragging Cell: The college has constituted an Anti Ragging Cell as per the “UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Rag- ging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009. The regu- lation has been framed by UGC in pursuance of the Judg- ment of the Hon’ble Supreme court of India dated 08- 05-2009 in civil Appeal No. 887/ 2009. 2. Anti Sexual Harassment Cell: As per the guidelines of Supreme Court, UGC, Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Pro- hibition & Redressal) Act, 2013, an Anti-Sexual Harass- ment Cell has been constituted Objectives: To develop principles and procedures for combating sexual harassment. To collaborate with the Women’s Club to organize gen- der sensitization awareness program. Till now no cases of sexual harassment at workplace has been registered. 3. Anti Narcotic cell: The Cell aims at working against the use of alcohol and drugs. Seminars and poster campaigns are organized to impart awareness against the social evils like drugs, smoking etc. 4. Career Guidance and Placement Cell: Career Guidance and Placement Cell has been set up in the college for the benefit of the students. The Cell’s 72 primary objective is to provide life skills and help stu- dents in job placements. 5. Students Welfare and Counseling Cell: The cell provides: Academic, Career and Psychological counseling to stu- dents. Help and guidance to students relating to behavioral problems, relationship issues or other psycho-social problems/issues that they encounter during their life at college. 6.Students Grievance Redressal cell: As per the UGC guidelines, a Student Grievance Redressal Cell is functioning in the college where the students can lodge their complaints on matters related to admissions, irregularities, victimisation and sexual harassment.
