South Texas

The State Fair will be held on March 30-April 9, 2017. Here is a list of important dates and changes, etc:

 All steers must be dehorned before the start of the fair’s weigh-in.  Roaster pickup—January 17, 2017 (YMBL office)  Broiler pickup—February 14, 2017 (YMBL office)  All poultry pickup will be from 4-6 p.m.; bring a box when you pickup your birds.  Rabbit entry deadline—January 31, 2017  Weight change on swine: 240-280, plus or minus 10. Over weight or under weight will be dis- qualified.  New: Nurse cows are allowed on show grounds  New: No pets are allowed in the barn, with the exception of service animals.  New: No one will be allowed to assist or instruct exhibitors from outside the show ring while show is in progress.  New: No animal on exhibition may be removed from the grounds without special order given by the Livestock Chairman or Superintendent.  New: The Livestock Committee will inspect all sale animals for proper care. Fail- ure to feed, water and care for your animals will result in forfeit of all premium and sale monies, and may be barred from any future show or event of the South Texas State Fair.  New for 2018: F-1 ownership to mirror steers.  Change in Meat Pen weights: Min. weight 31/2 lbs; Max weight 5 1/2 lbs.  Change in Open Poultry: Entries will close the 1st Thursday in March of current year; Late entries will be accepted with a $10 late fee. Fair book with rules and guidelines is available on-line, www.ymbl.org. Please read the rules and guidelines especially ones pertaining to the animal(s) you are showing.
