Press release Prix de Lausanne 2018 Selected candidates for the 46th edition International competition for young dancers – Théâtre de Beaulieu Lausanne, November 2nd, 2017: the members of the video selection panel deliberated last weekend in Lausanne and chose 69 young dancers. Along with the preselected candidates, a total of 78 participants will take part in the 46th world-renowned international competition from January 28th to February 4th, 2018. The video selection took place from October 26th to 29th, 2017 in Lausanne with a panel of 9 jury members, all professionals of the dance world. The candidates that applied were 380 participants (297 girls and 83 boys) from 38 different countries. 69 candidates have been selected after this video selection and 9 candidates were preselected*. They are now 78 selected candidates that will participate in the Prix de Lausanne 2018. Discover here > the 2018 selected candidates list of names Discover here > the 2018 candidates list of nationalities CEO and Artistic Director of the Prix de Lausanne, Shelly Power: “Prix de Lausanne is excited to welcome 78 candidates for the 46th edition including 8 younger students. The lowered age range allows for students to enter professional schools when turning 15 years old (instead of age 16) which is often the professional school entry age. Furthermore, we split the junior and senior awards which we expect will further define potential and job readiness. We must not forget the students not selected this year and remind them that competition is only a part of a dancers life and a career depends on the will to prevail in these moments of disappointment.

Youth America Grand Prix 2017 THIS EVENT IS IN THE PAST! • WHENMultiple dates from Feb 9 - Feb 12, 2017[days & times] • WHERECalifornia Center for the Arts: Escondido, 340 N. Escondido Blvd., Escondido, CA Map | Website • AGESNot available • COSTFree - $5 Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) is an internationally-renowned ballet and contemporary dance competition that awards scholarships - and even jobs - to the best dancers. If this competition sounds familiar, it's because it was featured in the popular documentary "First Position," which followed some now-famous dancers - including Miko Fogarty and Michaela DePrince - on their journey to being discovered. It's also how North County dancer, Scout Forsythe, got the attention of New York's American Ballet Theatre, where she is now in the company's Corps de Ballet. Forsythe won first place in the 2013 semi-finals in Paris. YAGP makes a semi-finals stop in San Diego Thursday, Feb. 9 through Sunday, Feb. 12 and will feature hundreds of local and regional dancers vying for a spot to compete in the New York finals. Only 300 dancers from around the world make it to the New York event in April. Since forming in 1999, YAGP has awarded over $2 million in scholarships to leading dance schools, and over 250 YAGP alumni are now dancing with companies including American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet and many others. For the San Diego event, the general public is invited to watch the semi-finals. This is a low-cost, fun way to catch famous ballet variations from shows like "Giselle," "Paquita," "Swan Lake" and many more.
