Fun Facts: 01 Antonio Vivaldi was born in , in 1678 and on the day of his birth, there was a large earthquake there. 02 Young Antonio was taught to play the by his father, a professional violinist who was also a barber. You could say he was a cut above the rest! 03 Antonio continued to study and practice the violin, even after he became a priest. Apparently, he was called the “Red Priest” because of his flaming red hair. However, after a while, his bad asthma kept him from saying Mass. 04 He taught at an orphanage for girls, and wrote a lot of music for the students to play. People came from far and wide to hear Vivaldi’s talented students perform the beautiful music he had written. 05 Sadly, Vivaldi died a poor man and he wasn’t even afforded music at his own funeral, only the peeling of bells at St. Stephen’s Cathedral could be heard. 06 His set of 4 violin , The Four Seasons, (1723) is considered to be one of his most famous works. 07 Many people think Vivaldi was the best Italian of his time. He wrote concertos, , church music and many other compositions. In all, Antonio wrote over 500 concertos!
