To open the FM Radio, on the home screen, click the Media icon > FM Radio.

Mobile Hotspot mode allows you to use your smartphone as a wireless hotspot with other Wi-Fi enabled devices.

To turn on Mobile Hotspot mode, on the home screen, click the connections area at the top of the screen or click the Manage Connections icon. Select the Mobile Hotspot checkbox.

Direct Connect Direct Connect allows you to use your BlackBerry smartphone like a walkie-talkie to talk to individuals or groups.

•Push the PTT button to speak to other users and release the button to listen for replies

•Conduct private one-on-one conversations or group sessions

Find your Direct Connect number 1. On the home screen or in a folder, click the Options icon.

2. Click Call Management > DC Settings.

Your Direct Connect number appears in the format **.

Send an Alert You can send an Alert to notify a contact that you want to start a Direct Connect call. When users receive an Alert, a tone is played on their BlackBerry smartphone.

1. In the Contacts application, highlight a contact.

2. Press the key > Alert .

Make a Direct Connect call You can make a Direct Connect call using the PTT button, from the Contacts application, or from Call logs in the Phone application. You can also add additional participants to a Direct Connect call. If you receive a phone call during a Direct Connect call, you can answer or ignore the phone call.

1. In the Contacts application, highlight a contact and push the PTT button on the left side of your BlackBerry smartphone.

•To speak, push and hold the PTT button. Wait for the sound before you speak. •To listen, release the PTT button.

2. To end the call, press the key.

Answer an Alert or a Direct Connect call • If you receive a Direct Connect call, push the PTT button to start talking. • If you receive an Alert, push the PTT button to start a Direct Connect call.

Add a participant while on a Direct Connect call If you add a participant while on a Direct Connect call, the call becomes a DC Group call.

1. During a Direct Connect call, click Add Member.

2. In the Contacts application, click a contact.

3. To add additional participants to the call, repeat steps 1 and 2 until you have added all participants.

Switch from a Direct Connect call to a phone call You can switch a Direct Connect call to a phone call if the contact’s phone number is in the Contacts application.

During a Direct Connect call, press the key > Convert to Call.

Create a blocked caller list You can add Direct Connect numbers to a blocked callers list that prevents people from calling you on your Direct Connect number.

1. On the home screen or in a folder, click the Options icon.

2. Click Call Management > DC Settings.

Create a blocked caller list 3. Click Blocked DC List > Block number

4. Perform one of the following actions: • To block a number that is not in the Contacts application, click New Number. • To block a Direct Connect contact from the Contacts application, click Select Contacts. • To unblock a caller, on the home screen or in a folder, click Options > Call Management > DC Settings > Blocked DC List. Highlight the number, press the > Allow DC.

Change ring tone, notifiers, reminders, or alerts for Direct Connect calls In any sound profile, you can change your ring tone to an audio file that’s stored on the built-in media storage or on a media card.

1.On the home screen, click your Sound and Alert Profiles icon.

2.Click Change Sounds and Alerts > Sounds for Selected Profile.

Personalize settings for Direct Connect You can personalize your Direct Connect settings with the options available when you click Options > Call Management > DC Settings.

Direct Connect setting Description One touch DC Change what happens when you push the PTT button from the home screen. Options include opening the Contacts application or Call logs, calling a Direct Connect number or DC Group, redialling the last called Direct Connect number or DC Group, or turning off your smartphone.

Exiting a DC Group Call that I initiated When you exit a Direct Connect call that you started, you can allow the call to continue with the remaining participants or end the call for all participants.

Invitation timeout Set a time limit for the invitation to expire when you receive a DC Group invitation.

To switch smartphones, use the BlackBerry Desktop Software or, to switch from a smartphone running BlackBerry 7 or later to another smartphone running BlackBerry 7 or later, use a media card.

To switch BlackBerry smartphones using a media card, a BlackBerry smartphone user must save the data to the media card and then restore it on the new BlackBerry smartphone.

You will be asked to create a BlackBerry ID account during the setup process on your smartphone. You can use any email address you would like to for your BlackBerry ID. If you have a username and password that you use for email addresses on your smartphone, that username is different than your BlackBerry ID.

Troubleshooting Direct Connect The BlackBerry smartphone user cannot make or receive Direct Connect calls

Try the following actions: •Make sure that the Direct Connect service is registered on your BlackBerry smartphone. •Make sure that your smartphone is connected to the mobile network. •If you are trying to make a Direct Connect call, make sure that the Direct Connect number is correct. •If you are not able to receive Direct Connect calls from a contact or a Direct Connect number, make sure that the contact or Direct Connect number is Switching smartphones not on your blocked caller list.
