Bertelsmann Supervisory Board Welcomes New Member Henrik Poulsen PRESS RELEASE Bertelsmann Supervisory Board Welcomes New Member Henrik Poulsen Gütersloh, 25 June 2020 – Henrik Poulsen, Chief Executive Officer of the Danish energy company Ørsted, has been newly appointed to the Bertelsmann Supervisory Board. The international media, services and education group made the announcement following an extraordinary general meeting. Poulsen succeeds Adidas CEO Kasper Rorsted, who retired from the Bertelsmann Supervisory Board in 2019. Poulsen has been at the helm of the Ørsted energy group since 2012. With annual revenues of around €9 billion, and 6,500 employees, the Danish company is a global market leader and pioneer in offshore wind energy. Christoph Mohn, Chairman of the Bertelsmann Supervisory Board, said: "I am delighted that in Henrik Poulsen we have been able to recruit an outstanding and internationally accomplished entrepreneur for the Bertelsmann Supervisory Board. With his broad management experience, Henrik Poulsen is an enrichment for our Supervisory Board, not least in his capacity as CEO of a very economically successful and innovative, while equally sustainable, energy company. Bertelsmann has also set itself the goal of becoming climate- neutral by 2030. On behalf of all members, I would like to warmly welcome Henrik Poulsen on the Bertelsmann Supervisory Board. Henrik Poulsen holds a Master’s degree from Aarhus University School of Business & Social Sciences. After various management positions at McKinsey & Company, LEGO Group, and KKR, he joined TDC, Denmark's largest telephone company, as President/CEO in 2008. In 2012 he left to become President/CEO at DONG Energy. In 2017, the company was renamed Ørsted under Poulsen. In January 2020, Ørsted was voted the world's most sustainable company by the media and investment consultancy Corporate Knights. He is responsible for the strategic direction of EIOPA and represents the Authority at the Council of the European Union, the European Commission and the European Parliament. Mr. Bernardino prepares the work of EIOPA's Board of Supervisors and also chairs the meetings of the Board of Supervisors and the Management Board. Mr. Bernardino is the first Chairperson of EIOPA. He was elected by the Board of Supervisors of EIOPA on 10 January, 2011. They should consequently be accomplished during carefully designed decision making processes leaving policy-makers a number of blame-avoidance opportunities. This hypothesis dominates contemporary welfare state research but is more often suggested than empirically analyzed. Modern research has primarily focused on reform outcomes, and analyzed how and whether decision makers respond properly to a variety of challenges facing modern welfare states and their expanded social policy programs.     The Malleable Politics of Activation Reform: the‘Hartz’ Reforms in Comparative Perspective Nigel Boyle[[email protected]] and Wolf Schünemann [[email protected]] Paper for 2009 EUSA Biennial Conference, April 25, Los Angeles. Abstract In this paper we compare the Hartz reforms in Germany with three other major labor market activation reforms carried out by center-left governments. Two of the cases, Britain and Germany, involved radically neoliberal “mandatory” activation policies, whereas in the Netherlands and Ireland radical activation change took a very different “enabling” form. Two of the cases, Ireland and Germany, were path deviant, Britain and the Netherlands were path dependent. We explain why Germany underwent “mandatory” and path deviant activation by focusing on two features of the policy discourse. First, the coordinative (or elite level) discourse was “ensilaged” sealing policy formation off from dissenting actors and, until belatedly unwrapped for enactment, from the wider communicative (legitimating) discourse. This is what the British and German cases had in common and the result was reform that viewed long term unemployment as personal failure rather than market failure. Second, although the German policy-making system lacked the “authoritative” features that facilitated reform in the British case, and the Irish policy- making system lacked the “reflexive” mechanisms that facilitated reform in the Dutch case, in both Germany and Ireland the communicative discourses were reshaped by novel institutional vehicles (the Hartz Commission in the German case, FÁS in the Irish case) that served to fundamentally alter system- constitutive perceptions about policy. In the Irish and German cases “government by commission” created a realignment of advocacy coalitions with one coalition acquiring a new, ideologically-dominant and path deviating narrative.
