To Our Valued Cigna Health Insurance Holders

Long Island Community Hospital has served this richly diverse region as a community hospital for more than 60 years. As Long Island doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals we are committed to the health and well-being of our neighbors, providing the highest level of quality and compassionate care to the community that we call home. In order to provide that high level of care in this environment of rising healthcare costs, our hospital, like most others, engages in regular discussions with all of our healthcare insurance providers to negotiate fair and equitable reimbursement rates that are commensurate to the care we provide. To our disappointment, following our recent negotiations with Cigna Health Insurance, we were not able to reach an agreement for the reimbursement amounts they would provide for our quality care services. Therefore, as of April 1, 2020, Long Island Community Hospital is no longer a participating provider in the CIGNA network. This parting is about the amount of money CIGNA should provide for services the hospital renders to our patients, not about the quality of care provided at Long Island Community Hospital. Of course we will always provide you with the highest level of quality care you and your loved ones need regardless of your insurance status or your ability to pay. What does this mean for you, as a CIGNA Health Insurance Holder who uses Long Island Community Hospital? For Emergency Department Visits - Observation visits and urgent/emergent admissions will be han- dled as in-network. This means that, under these circumstances, your member claims will be handled as in-net- work and your (member) out-of-pocket liability will be the same as if the care was rendered at an in-network facility. For Elective, Non-Emergent Treatment - Check to see if your policy offers out-of-network coverage which would allow you to continue to utilize Long Island Community Hospital. Patients who are presently undergoing treatment on a recurring basis can still receive these services under the Continuity of Care provision for a period of time. The patient will need to complete the Continuity of Care Request Form. The form for this provision can be downloaded from the CIGNA website which can be found in the link: https://www.cigna.com/individuals-families/member-resources/transition-continuity-of-care and is available in both English and Spanish. As your community hospital we look forward to continuing to serve your healthcare needs. Should you have any additional questions regarding your insurance coverage please call our Patient Financial Services department at 631.654.7140. Sincerely, Richard T. Margulis President & Chief Executive Officer
