STAR TREK® Productions on AC, CD, DVD, LD, MP3 And/Or VHS Special STAR TREK® Productions on AC, CD, DVD, LD, MP3 and/or VHS Over the years Paramount and others have made numerous Star Trek related productions. An impressive, but not complete list can be found at http://www.geocities.com/kriegerg69/videos/trekvids.html. The productions made by Paramount were partly produced for television broadcasting only and partly for release only on Laser-Disc (LD), DVD and/or VHS. Some of the productions originally made for television broadcasting only, where later released on LD, VHS and/or DVD. This index lists those productions that to my knowledge are commercially available on LD, DVD and/or VHS. In 1996 Leonard Nimoy (Spock), John de Lancie (Q), and Nat Segaloff formed “Alien Voices” http://members.tripod.com/~MaryJensen/alienvoices/ to create multi-media works of science fiction and fantasy. Already produced are H.G. Wells' The Time Machine, The Invisible Man and The First Men in the Moon, Jules Verne's Journey to the Centre of the Earth, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World, STAR TREK®: SPOCK VS. Q, and STAR TREK®: SPOCK VS. Q: THE SEQUEL. All productions are available on Compact-Disk (CD) and Audio-Cassette (AC). Some also as MP3. Contact: Kristyn Souder Communications Director Email: [email protected] Phone: (267)536-9566 PRESS RELEASE Zenkaikon Convention to Bring Anime and Science Fiction Fans to Lancaster in March Hatboro, PA – January 21, 2013: On March 22-24, 2013, Zenkaikon will hold its seventh annual convention in a new location at the Lancaster County Convention Center in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The convention expects to welcome over two thousand fans of Japanese animation (anime), comics (manga), gaming, and science fiction to downtown Lancaster for the weekend-long event. Zenkaikon had typically been held in the Valley Forge area of Pennsylvania. However, with the conversion of the Valley Forge Convention Center to a casino and the continued growth of the event, Zenkaikon moved its convention to Lancaster. Many convention attendees don costumes of their favorite characters to attend the annual convention. Planned convention events include a variety of educational panels and workshops hosted by volunteers and guests; anime and live action screenings; a costume and skit competition (the "Masquerade"); a hall costume contest; performances by musical guests; a live action role play ("LARP") event; video game tournaments and tabletop gaming; a formal ball and informal dances; and an exhibit hall of anime-themed merchandise and handmade creations from artists. A number of Guests of Honor have already been announced for Zenkaikon 2013. John de Lancie, best known for his roles on Star Trek and Stargate SG-1, and more recently known for his role as Discord on My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, will be hosting panels and meeting attendees. Prolific voice and live action actor Richard Epcar (Ghost in the Shell, The Legend of Korra, Kingdom Hearts) and actress Ellyn Stern (Robotech, Gundam Unicorn, Bleach) will also be participating in a variety of programming.

View metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk brought to you by CORE provided by Illinois Digital Environment for Access to Learning and Scholarship Repository ORIENTING FANDOM: THE DISCURSIVE PRODUCTION OF SPORTS AND SPECULATIVE MEDIA FANDOM IN THE INTERNET ERA BY MEL STANFILL DISSERTATION Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Communications with minors in Gender and Women’s Studies and Queer Studies in the Graduate College of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 2015 Urbana, Illinois Doctoral Committee: Professor CL Cole, Co-Chair Associate Professor Siobhan Somerville, Co-Chair Professor Cameron McCarthy Assistant Professor Anita Chan ABSTRACT This project inquires into the constitution and consequences of the changing relationship between media industry and audiences after the Internet. Because fans have traditionally been associated with an especially participatory relationship to the object of fandom, the shift to a norm of media interactivity would seem to position the fan as the new ideal consumer; thus, I examine the extent to which fans are actually rendered ideal and in what ways in order to assess emerging norms of media reception in the Internet era. Drawing on a large archive consisting of websites for sports and speculative media companies; interviews with industry workers who produce content for fans; and film, television, web series, and news representations from 1994-2009 in a form of qualitative big data research—drawing broadly on large bodies of data but with attention to depth and texture—I look critically at how two media industries, speculative media and sports, have understood and constructed a normative idea of audiencing.

  • Star Trek Fan Community
The Effect of Commercialisation and Direct Intervention by the Owners of Intellectual Copyright A Case Study: The Australian Star Trek Fan Community Susan Pamela Batho PhD Candidate University of Western Sydney Australia 2009 Resubmitted March 2009 © Susan Batho February 2007 Statement of Authentication The work presented in this thesis is, to the best of my knowledge and belief, original except as acknowledged in the text. I hereby declare that I have not submitted this material, either in full or in part, for a degree at this or any other institution. …………………………………………… (Signature) ABSTRACT In the early 1990s, Australian Star Trek fandom appeared to be thriving, with large numbers of members in individual clubs, many publications being produced and conventions being held. The Star Trek phenomenon was also growing, with its profitability being an attractive selling point. In 1994, Viacom purchased Paramount Communications, and expanded the control over its rights by offering licences to the title of Official Star Trek Club for countries outside of the United States, as well licences for numerous commercially sold items At the time they were in negotiation with the Microsoft Corporation to establish an on-line community space for Star Trek to attract the expanding internet fan presence, and relaunching Simon & Schuster’s Pocket Books which was part of Paramount Communications, as its sole source of Star Trek fiction, and had organised to launch the Star Trek Omnipedia, a CD produced by Simon & Schuster Interactive. A new Star Trek series, Voyager, was about to appear, and marketing-wise, it was a good time to expand their presence commercially, launch the new website, and organise the fans through Official Star Trek Clubs, feeding them new merchandise, and the new website.
