SCARBOROUGH BOOK FESTIVAL SCARBOROUGH BOOK FESTIVAL WELCOME

THE WARMEST WELCOME to BOOKS BY THE BEACH 2019. We’re launching the festival in ancient Egypt - where writing began. The Ravenmaster of The Tower enlightens us on animal behaviour and we’ll pick up tips from the royal park gardener. There’s murder and mayhem with top forensic scientist, acclaimed biographer and crime writers. Sport is celebrated by an Ashes winning captain and a feast of flavours to try at our literary lunches. History shines through stained glass windows and there’s music for everyone’s taste. Novelists rub shoulders with dramatists and romance blows a kiss to a real life mender of hearts. We’re riding waves of discovery on a tale of polar exploration, under deep oceans and around sea-shaken lighthouses – it’s the perfect bookshelf brought to life. THANK YOU to all our brilliant authors, hosts, sponsors, partners, volunteers and you the audience for your continued support. My final thank you to our wonderful patron, former head of BBC Radio, Helen Boaden. Heather French, Festival Director
