We wish a happy New Year to everyone at Short Lane this aernoon, especially our visitors and those few loyal supporters that have stayed with the club despite the train crash of the current season that sees us go into the second half of the season just one place off boom spot. Hopefully maers can only get beer but it will be tough this aernoon against a Bracknell Town side who, on the face of it, have been ruthless in changing their management whenever results have not gone their way. They arrive here today in 11th posion in the table, following mixed results in December which saw them losing 2-4 at South Park, drawing one apiece at home to Hanwell and then beang Northwood 2-0 last Saturday. Following today’s game, the real crunch for us is next Saturday when we travel to meet FC Romania, the only side below us. They lost again on Boxing Day which gives us a one point advantage with a game in hand. If we could stretch that to four points next week, that would give us a lile breathing space with only one side going down this season (and even that’s subject to a play-off against a Step 5 club) We are next due here on Tuesday 14 January when we expect to be meeng Kensington & Ealing Borough in the Middlesex Charity Cup, if we can get them to confirm the match. They are doing quite well this season in Division One of the CCL and recently both Jabir Laraba and Yahya El- Kabouche have been playing for them. Both of whom have played for us in recent seasons. The Ladies are at home tomorrow to Dulwich Hamlet in a London and SE Regional League match, kick- off 2.00 p.m. The postponed matches at home to Hartley Wintney in the Aldershot Senior Cup and in the League to Staines Town have been re-arranged for Tuesday 21 and Tuesday 28 January respecvely. That now leaves us with just the S. Comb. Cup game, away to Suon Common Rovers, to be sorted out. 6 #ASHBRA ashfordtownmiddlesexfc.com #ASHBRA 7 @ashfordtownmx Recent Action Westfield 5 - 0 Ashford 8 #ASHBRA ashfordtownmiddlesexfc.com vs Westfield #ASHBRA 9 @ashfordtownmx Today’s League Fixtures 10 #ASHBRA ashfordtownmiddlesexfc.com #ASHBRA 11 @ashfordtownmx Today’s Opponents Bracknell Town Club History The club was established in 1896 as Old Bracknell Wanderers They joined the Ascot & District League in 1904, and were runners-up in the league in 1907–08. The following season the club won the League Cup, and in 1911–12 they were league champions. Two seasons later they won Division Two. They were league champions again in 1932–33. In 1949 the club switched to the Reading & District League and were renamed Bracknell Football Club. They remained in the league until joining the Great Western Combination in 1958. In 1962 the club adopted its current name, and a year later joined the Surrey Senior League. They finished bottom of the league in 1965–66, but went on to win the League Cup in 1968–69 and the double of the title and League Cup in 1969–70. After winning the league the club joined the Spartan League. They won the League Cup in 1974–75, and when the league merged with the Metropolitan-London to become the London Spartan League at the end of the season, Bracknell were placed in Division One. They finished as runners-up in the new league's first season, losing the title to Farnborough Town on goal average, as well as losing the League Cup final. In 1977 Division One was renamed the Premier Division, and despite finishing fourth in 1978–79, the club were relegated to the Senior Division. They won the Senior Division in 1980–81, earning promotion back to the Premier Division, and the following season saw them finish as runners-up and win the League Cup. They went on to win the Premier Division and the League Cup in 1982–83. After being rejected by the Athenian League Bracknell joined Division Two South of the Isthmian League in 1984. They finished as runners-up in 1985-86 and were promoted to Division One. However, they were relegated back to Division Two South at the end of the 1988-89 season. League reorganisation saw them placed in Division Three in 1991, but after winning the division in 1993-94, they were promoted to Division Two, where they remained until relegation back to Division Three at the end of the 1988-89 season. In 2000-01 the club reached the first round of the FA Cup for the first time, eventually losing 4–0 at Lincoln City Further league reorganisation in 2002 saw Bracknell placed in Division One South, and two seasons later they were transferred to Division One West of the Southern League; this became Division One South and West in 2006. After finishing bottom of the division in 2009-10, they were relegated to the Premier Division of the Hellenic League. They were relegated again, this time to Division One East, at the end of the 2011-12 season after finishing bottom of the Premier Division. Despite finishing only fifth in Division One East the following season, the club was promoted back to the Premier Division. The 2016-17 season saw the club win three cups; the Hellenic League Challenge Cup was won by defeating Highworth Town 2–0 in the final; the Berks & Bucks County Senior Trophy was secured with a 2–0 win against Binfield, whilst the club beat Binfield again in the Reading Senior Cup final. In 2017-18 Bracknell were runners-up in the Hellenic League Premier Division, earning a promotion to the South Central Division of the Isthmian League, as well as retaining the Challenge Cup with a 3–1 win over Thatcham Town in the final. The following season saw them finish as runners-up in the Isthmian League's South Central Division, qualifying for the promotion play-offs. After beating Westfield 2–1 in the semi-finals, they lost 3–0 to Cheshunt in the final. 12 #ASHBRA ashfordtownmiddlesexfc.com Honours & Achievements • Isthmian League Division Three champions 1993–94 •Spartan League Premier Division champions 1982–83 Senior Division champions 1980–81 League Cup winners 1974–75, 1981–82, 1982–83 • Hellenic League Challenge Cup winners 2016–17, 2017–18 • Surrey Senior League Champions 1969–70 League Cup winners 1968–69, 1969–70 • Ascot & District League Champions 1911–12, 1932–33 Division Two champions 1913–14 League Cup winners 1908–09 • Stimulus Cup Winners 1998–99 • Fielden Cup Winners 1950–51, 1968–69, 1969–70, 1974–75, 1976–77, 1977–78, 1978–79, 1982–83 • Berks & Bucks County Senior Trophy Winners 2016–17 • Reading Senior Cup Winners 2016–17 #ASHBRA 13 @ashfordtownmx Bracknell Town continued.... Here we are in mid-February and this is our second encounter of the season which is taking place just 7 days after the away version as a result of the recent weather. That game was not one of our better ones and we went down by the only goal of a very disappointing game to a club under new management for several times this season. Recent weather has not been too kind but last Saturday we did manage to get a game played at table=topper Ware on their excellent artificial surface and we came away with a point following a spirited showing as just reward. Unfortunately, Alex Salmon picked up another injury and must be considered doubtful for tonight’s game but on the positive side he was replaced by Chris Ovenden who managed to carry on through to the end and is now looking well on the road to recovery himself.

HARTLEY WINTNEY FC HISTORY Hartley Wintney Football Club History Hartley Wintney Football Club was founded in the North Hampshire village of Hartley Wintney in 1897 and played in an area adjacent to the village's golf and cricket clubs, the facilities not quite being up to today's standard, with only a horse trough or the pond to remove the heavy mud from a sub-standard pitch. The Club's nickname of 'The Row' comes from 'Hartley Row', a former hamlet within Hartley Wintney. In 1953, the club moved to its present ground in Green Lane, known as 'The Memorial Ground'. A pavilion was erected and the team played in the Basingstoke League and, later, in the Aldershot League. In 1973, an influx of players under new manager Glynn Howell put the club firmly on the local football map. In his six year reign, the team won the Aldershot Senior League three times in succession, and the Aldershot Senior Cup. After several seasons in the Aldershot Senior League, Hartley were admitted to the Combined Counties League (previously Surrey Senior League). After the first couple of seasons and two changes of management, the club appointed Ian Bedford, and once again an influx of senior players brought Hartley success. Within his three years in man- agement, they gained trophies including the League Title (1982-1983) and Runners Up (1981-1982), Aldershot Senior Cup Winners (1980-1981), and George Allen Cup Win- ners (1981-1982). They were also Runners Up in the League Cup (1982-1983) and Al- dershot Senior Cup (1981-1982).

Head over to the blog below and read what Trevor Knell has to say, you will find a range of articles from Step 1-6 and much more: www.footballwriting.blog Alternatively find me on Facebook under my company name where I am available for any football article writing you would like published: www.facebook.com/TKEnterprises2019 For any queries or ideas please email me at the address below: [email protected] INTRO Following on from the overriding success of the virtual FA Cup we ran from mid March to early May, the easy thing to do would’ve been to draw a line under it and call it a day. I though ‘It’s not going to be bettered.’ ‘We’re not going to get anyway near it.’ ‘Clubs aren’t going to want to do it again.’ The harder thing to do would be to reimagine it as something completely different, bigger and better. Guess which route we took? The Hopper & Son Non-League Challenge Trophy was born long before the completion of our virtual FA Cup. One of the trickier parts to our original competition was the necessary omission of 100-200 Step 6 clubs due to the limited number of entrants that the FA Cup offers. Those that missed out included some of the fantastic clubs we’d visited in the past and, although they may never have know and, even if they did, they may not have cared, I felt bad.
