Arsenic in drinking water: what you need to know Why should I be concerned about arsenic in my drinking water? In Arizona, groundwater can contain arsenic that comes from natural sources, such as rocks and soils, and from human activities such as mining. Short-term exposure to very high doses of arsenic can cause poisoning. Long-term exposure to small doses has been linked to skin changes, cardiovascular effects, and cancer. Whether you are affected depends on how much arsenic you are exposed to and for how long, as well as your sensitivity to arsenic. What level of arsenic in my drinking water is considered safe? The United States Environmental Protection Agency has set the arsenic standard for drinking water at 10 parts per billion (ppb) to protect consumers served by public water systems from the effects of long-term, chronic exposure to arsenic. 10 ppb is roughly equal to 5 teaspoons of ink in an Olympic-sized swimming pool. Thus people are advised to increase their consumption of fruits and vegetables which are natural sources of potassium. Since potassium is readily excreted by people with normal kidney function, and based on estimates of the generally low potassium intakes in European and North American populations, no Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL) has been set [2, 3]. However, certain groups of people, such as those with renal failure, are at risk of hyperkalemia [4] and people with chronic kidney disease, and on dialysis are advised to restrict their intake of potassium [5]. To help patients, a number of websites, such as [5-7] and publications, such as [8-10] provide the potassium levels in different foods. While these sources are very useful and much of the information is freely available on the web, there is a dearth of information about foods that are eaten in certain parts of the world, such as in the Republic of Mauritius. The aim of this pilot study was therefore to measure the potassium levels in a sample of drinks and plant foods that are commonly consumed in the island Republic of Mauritius. -

Numerous other factors also set bottled water brands apart; the constancy of the water’s composition throughout the year, the source of the water and whether or not it undergoes modifications after it is collected. The Corporate Social Responsibility in Lidl’s Communication Campaigns in Croatia and the UK Abstract The purpose of the paper was to investigate whether Lidl uses CSR communication in their Advertising and Communication Campaigns in two different business contexts, and if so, how. The paper built upon existing analyses of CSR Communication by analysing Lidl’s websites in both countries, and went step forward and analysed TV adverts of the company in both countries as well. The analysis discovered importance of the social context in using CSR to promote business, as well as a different communication management strategy where Lidl does not communicate with UK public as extensively as with the Croatian public due to different views on the CSR communication.
