'Gayageum' (a 12-stringed) was made by King Gasil of the Gaya Kingdom. The original name was 'gayatgo'. "Gayatgo' is a mixed word of 'gaya' from the Kingdom of Gaya and 'go', an old word referring to a stringed instrument.

'Gayageum' has 12 silk strings on the sounding board of . Strings are plucked by fingers.

'Geomungo’ (a six-stringed) originated from Chinese 'chilhyeongeum' imported from a Chinese kingdom. It was transmitted to the Unified Silla Kingdom.

The instrument has 6 silk strings on a resonator made of paulownia .

‘Gayageum' sounds fragile and feminine, while ‘Geomungo' sounds deep and masculine.

‘Yanggeum’ means "a western instrument". a metal-stringed instrument, was introduced in the early years of the King Yeongjo period through China from Europe.

The 56 strings, four strings for each of the 14 courses. 'Yanggeum' produces sounds by striking the strings with a hammer.

‘Haegeum’ belongs to rubbed, stringed instruments. It seemed to have been introduced from China, but it didn't originate from China.

It is made of the 8 materials of gold, stone, string, bamboo, gourd, clay, leather, and wood

There is a resonator with two silk strings over it. A bow made of horsehair scrapes the strings to make sounds.

‘Jing’ It is used as an indicator of the first beat of each 'jangdan' (rhythm).

It is struck while being held in one hand, or it is hit while lying down or while being put on the knee. The mallet wrapped with cloth produces deep and soft sounds with long lingering sounds .

‘Kkwaenggwari’ is the same in shape with ‘Jing' and only smaller in size.

It is a brass gong with a 20 cm diameter. A red string attached to it is like a handle.

A player holds ‘Kkwaenggwari' with the left hand by grabbing the red string and strikes it with a wooden mallet.

‘Ulla’ It is a set of 10 brass-plate-shaped disks.

It is hit by a mallet to produce sounds. The sounds are clear.

The disk lowest in tune is put at the far left and then the tune gets higher as you go to the right . In the second row, the others are opposite. The lowest one is on the right.

The tune gets higher as you go towards the left.

‘Janggo’ is an hourglass-shaped drum, was imported from the West.

It is struck by a stick, giving it the name of "jang".

It is played with the drummer sitting down on the floor. The left head is made of thick hide, producing low sounds, and the right head is made of thin hide, producing high pitches.

‘Daegeum’ , a large transverse , It was being in Silla.

It was made of yellow bamboo.

'Daegeum' has a blowing hole with a closed end and a buzzing membrane covered with a thin that give it a unique timbre. There are six finger holes, producing high and low pitches, and a hole of the seventh star.

‘Saenghwang’ , is constructed from 17 bamboo pipes, each with a metal free reed, mounted in a windchest made of a dried gourd.

It is a free-reed . Air is blown into a hole in the wind chest, causing the metal reeds to vibrate to make sounds .

‘Piri’ , a cylindrical double-reed bamboo , it is the bamboo wind instruments. being blown vertically or transversely.

It was imported from Song, China, when new music was introduced in the 9th year of the King Yejong period of Goryeo .
