Acknowledging the problem and identifying its extent and ramifications was the first step which was articulated in the FALL 2013 issue of the FEZANA Journal. More importantly what do we need to do to reverse the trend or at least to stabilize or stop its rapid decline. A cross section of the North American Zarathushti population was surveyed for their opinion: first generation, next generation, intermarried, intra married, young, old, male, female, Iranian Zarathushtis, Parsi Zarathushtis. We received a plethora of information, laments as well as creative thoughts. Cognizant of the fact that by adding all this information to the printed issue would increase the printing and mailing costs when our subscriptions are declining we are trying a new hybrid approach. We are placing on the FEZANA website (www.fezana.org ) the addendum Part 1 containing the contributions of 34 First generation Zarathushtis and Part 2 containing the contributions of 34 next generation Zarathushtis . -
What an Auspicious Day Today Is! It Is Pak Iranshah Atash Behram Padshah Saheb's Salgreh – Adar Mahino and Adar Roj! Adar Ma
Weekly Zoroastrian Scripture Extract # 102 – Pak Iranshah Atash Behram Padshah Salgreh - Adar Mahino and Adar Roj Parab - We approach Thee Ahura Mazda through Thy Holy Fire - Yasna Haptanghaaiti - Moti Haptan Yasht - Yasna 36 Verses 1 - 3 Hello all Tele Class friends: What an auspicious day today is! It is Pak Iranshah Atash Behram Padshah Saheb’s Salgreh – Adar Mahino and Adar Roj! Adar Mahina nu Parab! Today in our Udvada Gaam, hundreds of Humdins from all over India will congregate to pay their homage to Padshah Saheb and then all of them will be treated by a sumptuous Gahambar Lunch thanks to the Petit Family, an annual event! Over 1500 Humdins will partake this Gahambar lunch! I have attached 3 photos of the Salgreh in 2004 showing the long queue, Gahambar lunch Pangat and the Master Chefs! In our religion, Fire is regarded as one of the most amazing creations of Dadar Ahura Mazda! In fact, in Atash Nyayesh, Fire is referred to as the Son of Ahura Mazda! In our Agiyaris, Adarans and Atash Behrams, the focal point of our worship is the consecrated Fire and hence many people call us Fire Worshippers in their ignorance. That brings to mind the famous quote of the great Persian poet, Ferdowsi, the Shahnameh Author: “Ma gui keh Atash parastand budan, Parastandeh Pak Yazdaan budan!” “Do not say that they are Fire Worshippers! They are worshippers of Pak Yazdaan (Dadar Ahura Mazda) (through Holy Fire!)” In our previous weeklies, we have presented verses from Atash Nyayesh in praise of our consecrated Fires! The above point by Ferdowsi is well supported by the second Karda (chapter) of Yasna Haptanghaaiti, Yasna 36, the seven Has (chapters) attributed by some to Zarathushtra himself after his Gathas and many attribute them to the immediate disciples of Zarathushtra. -

On the Modern Politicization of the Persian Poet Nezami Ganjavi
Official Digitized Version by Victoria Arakelova; with errata fixed from the print edition ON THE MODERN POLITICIZATION OF THE PERSIAN POET NEZAMI GANJAVI YEREVAN SERIES FOR ORIENTAL STUDIES Edited by Garnik S. Asatrian Vol.1 SIAVASH LORNEJAD ALI DOOSTZADEH ON THE MODERN POLITICIZATION OF THE PERSIAN POET NEZAMI GANJAVI Caucasian Centre for Iranian Studies Yerevan 2012 Siavash Lornejad, Ali Doostzadeh On the Modern Politicization of the Persian Poet Nezami Ganjavi Guest Editor of the Volume Victoria Arakelova The monograph examines several anachronisms, misinterpretations and outright distortions related to the great Persian poet Nezami Ganjavi, that have been introduced since the USSR campaign for Nezami‖s 800th anniversary in the 1930s and 1940s. The authors of the monograph provide a critical analysis of both the arguments and terms put forward primarily by Soviet Oriental school, and those introduced in modern nationalistic writings, which misrepresent the background and cultural heritage of Nezami. Outright forgeries, including those about an alleged Turkish Divan by Nezami Ganjavi and falsified verses first published in Azerbaijan SSR, which have found their way into Persian publications, are also in the focus of the authors‖ attention. An important contribution of the book is that it highlights three rare and previously neglected historical sources with regards to the population of Arran and Azerbaijan, which provide information on the social conditions and ethnography of the urban Iranian Muslim population of the area and are indispensable for serious study of the Persian literature and Iranian culture of the period. ISBN 978-99930-69-74-4 The first print of the book was published by the Caucasian Centre for Iranian Studies in 2012. -

IFFI 2007–Non-Feature Films Abhijit Ghosh-Dastidar The International Film Festival at Goa (November 07) offered beautiful, humane portraits in the non-features section of Indian Panorama. Buddhadeb Das Gupta's ''Naushad Ali—The Melody Continues" (Hindi, colour, 39 mins) is a tribute to Naushad Ali, the legendary music composer from Bombay's film world, and the film landscape of the times. The film commences with Dilip Kumar, the actor, visiting Naushad Ali, admitted in Bombay hospital. Naushad passed away in May 06. An 'alap' song, composed by Naushad and sung by Bade Ghulam Ali, from ''Moghal-e-Azam'', is at the debut of the sound track. The voice over states that Naushad was closely linked to Lucknow, where he was born in December 1919. The camera travels along the lanes and streets of Lucknow, with Moghal monuments in the background. Naushad's father was a munshi in court. Naushad had spent his childhood at his grandmother's house. His uncle, Allam, had a harmonium shop, and soon Naushad found a job in a musical instruments shop. He started watching films from the age of eight at the Royal Cinema hall. He was fascinated by the off screen musicians of silent films. Clips from musical silent films roll by. Babbar Khan coached Naushed on the harmonium. Naushad shifted to Bombay in 1937. He spent nights below a staircase. He joined DN Madhok's film production company, and made music for films like ''Mala'' and ''Prem Nagar'', for which he was paid Rs 300 only for each film. He composed classical music to fit the songs of Shamshad Begum in "Baiju Bawra''. -

Country Policy and Information Note Iran: Zoroastrians Version 1.0 June 2017 Preface This note provides country of origin information (COI) and policy guidance to Home Office decision makers on handling particular types of protection and human rights claims. This includes whether claims are likely to justify the granting of asylum, humanitarian protection or discretionary leave and whether – in the event of a claim being refused – it is likely to be certifiable as ‘clearly unfounded’ under s94 of the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002. Decision makers must consider claims on an individual basis, taking into account the case specific facts and all relevant evidence, including: the policy guidance contained with this note; the available COI; any applicable caselaw; and the Home Office casework guidance in relation to relevant policies. Country information COI in this note has been researched in accordance with principles set out in the Common EU [European Union] Guidelines for Processing Country of Origin Information (COI) and the European Asylum Support Office’s research guidelines, Country of Origin Information report methodology, namely taking into account its relevance, reliability, accuracy, objectivity, currency, transparency and traceability.
