After replacing Eric Clapton in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, he formed the seminal blues band Fleetwood Mac (this was in 1967: pre- Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham). Green owned a 1959 sunburst Les Paul that had one of the pickups out of phase with the other. This may have been accidental; legend has it that one of the ACTIVE PICKUPS AND CONTROLS INDICATED IN ORANGE AND CONTROLS INDICATED ACTIVE PICKUPS pickups was incorrectly repaired. In any case, the out-of-phase pickups lent the guitar a distinctive tone in the middle switch position. This is easy to FENDER FENDER achieve with any dual-humbucker guitar, so after a little urging from a customer, we decided to document this wiring. FENDER FENDER FENDER FENDER FENDER FENDER FENDER FENDER FENDER FENDER FENDER FENDER FENDER FENDER FENDER FENDER FENDER FENDER FENDER FENDER FENDER FENDER There are a couple of different ways to reverse a pickup’s phase: you can reverse the current flow or the magnet orientation. Both sound the same, despite what you might read on the Internet. If you do it by reversing one pickup’s POSITION 1 magnet then you cannot toggle between the normal and out-of-phase settings. So we reverse the phase electrically so that in the middle switch position (both pickups on) you can toggle between normal (pushbutton “up”) and out-of-phase (pushbutton “down”) tones. Pushbutton Up Pushbutton Down Hey, a Tele’s not a Les Paul. And it doesn’t have two volume controls, so you can’t play with subtle changes to the phase POSITION 2 = IN PHASE POSITION 2 = OUT OF PHASE shift. But this wiring adds tonal versatility to a dual-humbucker Tele and that’s a good thing, right? We thought so. © Tone Shapers, Inc. • Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation
AYNSLEY DUNBAR RETALIATION Of the numerous British blues-rock bands to spring up in the late '60s, the Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation was one of the better known, though solid reception on tours did not translate into heavy record sales. Musically, the group recalled John Mayall's Bluesbreakers during the 1966-1967 era that had produced that group's A Hard Road album, though with a somewhat more downbeat tone. The similarities were hardly coincidental, as the band's founder and leader, drummer Aynsley Dunbar, had been in the Bluesbreakers lineup that recorded the A Hard Road LP. Too, bassist Alex Dmochowski would go on to play with Mayall in the 1970s, and guitarist Jon Morshead was friendly with fellow axeman Peter Green (also in the Bluesbreakers' A Hard Road lineup), whom he had replaced in Shotgun Express. Though he was only 21 when he formed the Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation, the drummer had already played with several bands of note in both his native Liverpool and London. Stints in several Merseybeat groups had culminated in his joining the Mojos, and Dunbar played on a couple of singles by the group, though these were cut after their British chart hits. Shortly after leaving the Mojos, he did his stint with the Bluesbreakers, after which he played for a few months in the Jeff Beck Group, also appearing on their 1967 single "Tallyman"/"Rock My Plimsoul." Wanting to lead his own band, in mid-1967 he formed the Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation, joined by Morshead, who'd previously been in the Moments (with a pre-Small Faces Steve Marriott), Shotgun Express, and Johnny Kidd & the Pirates; singer/guitarist/keyboardist Victor Brox, who worked for a while with British blues godfather Alexis Korner; and bassist Keith Tillman.

While tympanic reproduction has been very successful, its success has limited the ways in which music reproduction is popularly imagined and discussed. This thesis explores the history of “re-performance,” an alternative mode of reproduction epitomized by the early twentieth-century player piano. It begins with a discussion of nineteenth-century piano recorders and the historical role of material representation in the production of music.

  • John Mayall Performs at the Broward Center on May 12
May 6, 2015 Media Contact: Savannah Whaley Pierson Grant Public Relations 954.776.1999 ext. 225 Jan Goodheart, Broward Center 954.765.5814 THE GODFATHER OF BRITISH BLUES JOHN MAYALL PERFORMS AT THE BROWARD CENTER ON MAY 12 FORT LAUDERDALE – Legendary blues master John Mayall will perform on Tuesday, May 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. With a career spanning 50 years, the "Godfather of British Blues” has more than 60 albums to his credit, including the all-time classic Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton, the Grammy-nominated Wake Up Call and Stories, which debuted on the Billboard blues charts at #1. In the early ‘60s, Mayall began putting musicians together in London under the banner of The Bluesbreakers that, over the years, featured a succession of rock greats including Eric Clapton, Mick Taylor of the Rolling Stones and Fleetwood Mac’s Peter Green, John McVie and Mick Fleetwood. In 1969, with his popularity blossoming in the U.S., Mayall released an acoustic live album entitled The Turning Point, from which his song "Room to Move" was destined to become a rock classic and for which he received a Gold record. Attracted by the West Coast climate and culture, he moved to Los Angeles and began forming bands with American musicians. Throughout the ‘70s, John became further revered for his many jazz/rock/blues innovations featuring such notable performers as Blue Mitchell, Red Holloway, Larry Taylor and Harvey Mandel. Throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s, Mayall's released a succession of dynamic albums such as Behind The Iron Curtain, Chicago Line, A Sense of Place and the Wake Up Call that featured guest artists Buddy Guy, Mavis Staples, Albert Collins and Mick Taylor.
