HIGH FIVE: In Thursday nights win in Los Angeles, New York Islanders defensemen Thomas Hickey and Scott Mayfield both finished with a +5 rating good for new career-highs. On Thursday, Hickey and Mayfield became the first pair of Islanders defenseman to finish +5 (or better) since March 17, 1990 (Gerald Diduck and Joe Reekie vs. NYR).

SCOTT FREE: Islanders blueliner Scott Mayfield recorded a career-high three assists in Thursday’s win in LA. Mayfield, 26, became the first Islander defenseman to record a plus five rating and add three assists in the same game in 36 years (D. Potvin, 1982). The St. Louis, Missouri native leads all team defenseman in points (5) and assists (4).

LUCKY 13: Mathew Barzal opened the 2018-19 season by recording a point in each of the Islanders first four games this season. Trotz spent the previous four seasons as the Head Coach of the Washington Capitals. During his tenure in Washington, Trotz led the Capitals to two consecutive Presidents’ Trophies (2015-16 and 2016-17) and won the franchise’s first Stanley Cup (2017-18).
