For more information, please contact [email protected]. AGAINST WOMEN’S SPORTS NANCY LEONG* ABSTRACT This Article challenges the longstanding assumption that sports should be segregated by sex. Imposing sex segregation on sports is problematic for many reasons. Sex segregation reflects and reinforces a binary view of both sex and gender unsupported by science. It communicates that women are physically unable to compete against men, even though research indicates considerable variation among individual athletes and different sports, and further reveals that attributes other than sex are often more important determinants of athletic ability. It reinforces unfounded gender stereotypes that harm both women and men. And sex segregation uncritically prioritizes athletic activities involving strengths typically associated with male bodies, without requiring us to ask why we view these strengths as the most important in the first place.

  • Interview of Marta Prus, Film Maker of ‘Over the Limit’
INTERVIEW OF MARTA PRUS, FILM MAKER OF ‘OVER THE LIMIT’ Bodychou : Why did you make this film in the first place? Marta Prus : I was fascinated by the hidden world of Russian rhythmic gymnastics and I wished to see what’s underneath the medial face of the best team in the world. I wanted to see how gymnast feels in this environement. B : Where did the difficulties lay to make it? MP : I’m simmilar to Rita in not remembering what was difficult. There were a lot of challenges and obstacles in the whole 5-years-long process. From waiting for the approval of Irina Viner, through establishing a relationship with Rita, production problems, to my inner limits that I needed to push several times. Filmmaking is a very though work, there would be a lot to say… But what matters is the outcome - finished film. B : How did the main protagonists, Margarita Mamun, Amina Zaripova and Irina Usmanova Viner, react to it (before, during and after the release?) MP : At the beginning Irina Viner didn’t like the idea of making a documentary in Novogorsk, but years of showing her my motivation made it possible. Rita and Amina were happy at the beginning, but during one-year-long shooting period they were sometimes tired with the camera. Unlike Irina, who weren’t disturbed by us. All three protagonist behave natural in front of me and I am very thankful to them for the trust. Before premiere I showed the film to all of them. Rita watched it in Warsaw and she cried a lot.

SOME RESULTS OF XXVII WORLD SUMMER UNIVERSIADE 2013 IN KAZAN R.T. Burganov, Minister of Youth, Sport and Tourism Ministry of Youth, Sport and Tourism, the Republic of Tatarstan, Kazan Key words: legacy, kinds of sport, results of competitions. Universiade 2013 successfully held in Kazan showed that university sport is developing and getting more popular in our country and all over the world. The high level of the Universiade organization is obvious. President of the Russian Federation Mr. Vladimir Putin and FISU President Mr. Claude–Louis Gallien mentioned this fact more than once. Six hundred sixty three young, persistent and hard-working athletes represented Russian Federation. The Russian team became the largest team during the Games. We are proud that coordinated teamwork of the territorial authorities in the field of sport and Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation helped so many students to participate in the second largest international competitions in the world. Russian athletes finished Games in Kazan with triumph and won the first place of the team. All medal records of the previous Universiade were broken. In 5 day our national team set an absolute record in the amount of medals after the Universiade in Moscow in 1973, where national team got 69 gold medals. Two days after Russia broke the record of the Chinese national team set in Shenzhen in 2011, by getting 100 gold medals which no team had got before. Four athletes of the Russian team became four–times winners of the Universiade in four sports: Margarita Mamun (rhythmic gymnastics), Vladimir Morozov (swimming), Viktoriya Andreeva (swimming) and Julia Efimova (swimming).

  • November N. 156
NOVEMBER N. 156 EOC …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. We are all French, Russian, Turkish – this was the theme for the month of November across the whole world. The Olympic family of Europe offered its solidarity and sympathy with the victims of recent terror attacks across Europe during its annual General Assembly in Prague: a deeply European moment for all members of the EOC. At the beginning of November, EOC President Patrick Hickey faced numerous responsibilities as the end of 2015 loomed - a year which he has defined as “historic”. The biggest engagment for Patrick Hickey was the EOC General Assembly in Prague, where he welcomed the leaders of the Olympic Movement, including IOC President Thomas Bach, ANOC President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al- Sabah, and IOC and EOC Honorary Presidents Jacques Rogge and Mario Pescante. Czech Olympic Committee President Jiří Kejval was also a prominent figure throughout the weekend and delegates were honoured by the presence of Milos Zeman, the President of the Czech Republic. Following the meetings in Prague, President Hickey went on to Monte Carlo for the 8th Peace and Sport International Forum, chaired by HSH Prince Albert II. Whilst there, the President of the EOC joined a panel of judges awarding this year’s distinctions, which were presented during the Grand Gala at the Monte Carlo Sporting Club. November 2015 was not a month to be forgotten easily. 4th Executive Committee meeting of 2015 - On the eve of the 44th EOC General Assembly, the Executive Committee met in the Czech capital to review the year’s activities. Czech Olympic Committee President Jiří Kejval and Secretary General Petr Graclik attended the opening, offering their European colleagues and President Patrick Hickey a warm welcome.
