Title: Collections Management

Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS, minimum of three years experience in collection development and maintenance in a , knowledge of current issues and trends in public library collection development, ability to plan and manage collection budgets, demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, Librarian 3 Certification or ability to achieve certification within six months of employment

Department: Collections

General Responsibilities

1. Oversee all aspects of developing and maintaining the Library’s adult collections 2. Support and Promote the Library’s Collections 3. Oversee library’s collection policies and procedures 4. Oversee acquisitions budget for adult materials in all formats 5. Work closely with Technical Services and Public Services staff 6. Track and analyze collection data 7. Library Administration

Specific Responsibilities

1. Oversee all aspects of developing and maintaining the Library’s adult collections a. Provide oversight for the library’s adult collections, including materials selection and collection maintenance. b. Work directly with publishers and vendors to establish accounts and negotiate purchasing. c. Plan, implement, and manage all collection inventory processes. d. Ensure that the library’s collections are attractively maintained and relevant.

2. Support and Promote the Library’s Collections a. Develop recommended reading lists and informational handouts for distribution to patrons. b. Develop and maintain a schedule. c. Develop displays to highlight and promote areas of the collection.

3. Oversee library’s collection policies a. Coordinate implementation of the library’s collection policies and strategies. b. Lead the development of new collection policies, as needed.

4. Oversee acquisitions budget for adult materials in all formats a. Manage current year budget and monitor expenditures. b. Complete annual budget request forms.

5. Work closely with Technical Services and Public Services Staff a. Develop and document standard procedures and practices to maintain the accuracy of the library’s materials records. b. Ensure appropriate placement of materials within collections. c. Ensure collections meet library standards. d. Ensure materials are compatible with circulation procedures. e. Collaborate as needed for changes in circulation procedures, damaged materials, Horizon changes, etc. f. Coordinate workflow to ensure that technical services operations are effective in delivering fast, quality processing of new materials.

6. Track and analyze collection data a. Collect, compile, and distribute collection statistics and reports. b. Use data to make informed decisions on purchases and deselection.

7. Library Administration a. Assist in development and implementation of library policies. b. Assist in achieving Long Range Plan goals. c. Work with the library’s management team to develop strategic concepts, practices, and innovations to continually improve the quality of the library’s services and collections.
