Who Is RAHBI? Who is RAHBI? RAHBI is sophisticated funk personified. An Atlanta native, RAHBI’s raw talent journeyed from his Grandfather’s Church to the Main-Stage where RAHBI began to slowly evolve into a Rock Star! RAHBI’s infectious light convinced legendary record executive LA Reid to, at only 14 years old, sign and form the R&B group “4th Avenue” with RAHBI as one of the lead singers. After “4th Avenue” disbanded RAHBI became a classically trained singer-songwriter sharpening his gift, performing in musical theater, and traveling the world singing background for Motown recording artist Donnie. After performing around the world RAHBI realized his star potential and continued performing as a solo artist who’s live performances were so captivating it brought him to major stages opening for India.Arie, SZA, Tyler The Creator, Big Freedia, Musiq SoulChild, and Ledisi, to name a few. It’s no surprise that Janelle Monae and Erykah Badu revere RAHBI as “inspirational / pure light”. RAHBI’s raw talent even sparked the attention of Lauryn Hill in 2005 to join her private jam session in New York City. In 2006 RAHBI released his first EP; “Rahbi the EP”, followed by “Raw Live” in 2008, “Roller Coaster” in 2011, and in 2012 he began his trilogy EP; “Goldenchild Trimester 1: Fun” releasing part two “Deception/Conception” in 2013, and part three “Hello World” in 2015. In 2014, RAHBI joined the cast of VH1’s “Make A Band Famous” and was praised by Nastasha Bedingfield for his unique, melodic and infectious song-writing ability. RAHBI’s sensational live show, and funk filled independent artistry garnered major invites to perform at AFROPUNK Atlanta, Harlem’s legendary Apollo Theater, and SoFar in New York making RAHBI one of the most sought after Indie artist from Atlanta. Recently RAHBI released his long-awaited single “Better Life” an 80s Pop/Rock and Soul record that speaks to self-love with a powerful music video that brings to life the lyrics of the record.     By Stephanie Y. Evans & Stephanie Shonekan Black Women’s Music Database chronicles over 600 Africana singers, songwriters, composers, and musicians from around the world. The database was created by Dr. Stephanie Evans, a professor of Black women’s studies (intellectual history) and developed in collaboration with Dr. Stephanie Shonekon, a professor of Black studies and music (ethnomusicology). Together, with support from top music scholars, the Stephanies established this project to encourage interdisciplinary research, expand creative production, facilitate community building and, most importantly, to recognize and support Black women’s creative genius. This database will be useful for music scholars and ethnomusicologists, music historians, and contemporary performers, as well as general audiences and music therapists. Music heals. The purpose of the Black Women’s Music Database research collective is to amplify voices of singers, musicians, and scholars by encouraging public appreciation, study, practice, performance, and publication, that centers Black women’s experiences, knowledge, and perspectives. This project maps leading Black women artists in multiple genres of music, including gospel, blues, classical, jazz, R & B, soul, opera, theater, rock-n-roll, disco, hip hop, salsa, Afro- beat, bossa nova, soka, and more.
