Joel Simon, ’74, BS ’75, MS ’77, has two passions: photography and marine biology. His desire to investigate the content of Southern California tide pools at the age of 11 motivated him to build his own diving gear out of a one-liter soda bottle, surgical tubing and the gas valve off an old stove. Not long afterwards, he began taking his camera underwater.
