Year 8 Preparation for Work Day - employers are invited to 20/06/2018 Ebor 12-13 Employer Workshop support Year 8 students as part of a preparation for employment Times TBC day. The school are seeking sessions delivered by employers on – What Employers are looking for in young people, CV’s, Application processes, skills and attributes, HR processes for recruiting young people etc. The session will be delivered to groups of 20 and be repeated around 5 times across the day to accommodate all Year 8 students. Year 10 Gifted and Talented STEM day – the school would 21/06/2018 Selby High School 14-15 Employer Workshop welcome support from employers in a variety of ways to support 9am – 3.30pm their gifted and talented day – through either providing a STEM focussed workshop as part of the day and/or supporting a speed networking session.

9:00-2:30 Business Adviser opportunities. Last year over 1,000 students from across 40 schools from across Yorkshire and Humber took part in the event. Sponsorship

At the core of this event is a real celebration of achievement – we put young people at the heart of this event, displaying their ideas, projects and prototypes created within education or outside to our expert judges recruited from business, HE and other partners. Last year 100 projects were showcased and over 50 awards were made to students at the event by our judges and sponsored by businesses and partner organisations.

Last year we were delighted to team up with York, North Yorkshire and East Riding Local Enterprise Partnership, local employers and organisations including Drax Power, Doosan, FERA, Dale Power, Nestlé, RAF, Army, Navy, Sirius Minerals, Network Rail, GHD Ltd, Portakabin, and the Rotary Club as well as our education partners , , , York St John and Coventry University and many more. This year we aim to make the event BIGGER and BETTER!

Employers are invited to JOIN US and support in a variety of ways including acting as an Advisor/Judge, sponsoring an award, providing a hands-on activity that promotes STEM or a careers stand. 9:00-15:30 ideas and skills, employers from different industries are invited to support and act as Business Advisers and Judges. Employers are invited to support Post 16 students with one 02/07/2018 The Joseph 16-17 Employer Speaker or more of the following: Rowntree School, 10:00-15:05 Mock Interviewer York 10:00 - 11:00: a session on how to search for apprenticeships, creating an account on the national apprenticeship website, levels of apprenticeships etc. This will be done in a computer room so students can create an account if needed.

11:20 - 12:20: an employer with a current apprentice is invited to talk to the students about what an apprenticeship is really like from both points of view, what is it like day to day.

12:20 - 13:20 – Employers are invited to support a session on How to write a CV, make an application and give interview tips.

14:05 - 15:05: Employers are invited to support a small group of Year 12 students with a mock interview. Speed Networking as part of an Inspire and Explore Days themed 03/07/2018 Ryedale Schools 14-15 Speed Networking on Health & Social Care coordinated by NYBEP for the Ryedale 9:00-12:00 Schools, employers are invited to support a short Speed Networking Session which will feature as part of this day. We envisage the session will be for an hour in the morning. Careers Fair – Employers are invited to support the school with a 04/07/2018 All Saints RC School, 14-17 Careers Stand Careers Stand. Students from Year 9 to Post 16 will visit the York 9:00-12.15 event.

Opportunities for Employers to support York, North Yorkshire, and East Riding Schools

We are looking for Employers to talk to schools through assemblies/drop down days on various topics including, skills, what employers are looking for in young people etc. We have a particular focus on Employers in schools across the North Yorkshire Coast. Again if you would like to talk to young people please let us know and we can provide further details.

Opportunity definitions –

Employer Speaker: this typically involves working with groups of students either in a session repeated to small groups across the day or in an assembly to a large group of students – talks can focus on, sharing knowledge and expertise of your sector/business, your career pathway, skills employers are looking for, recruitment process and more. Employer Workshop: this typically involves working with small groups of students with the workshop repeated across the day and features as part of a drop-down day – workshops can be informative on your sector/business and employers are encourage to do a hands-on activity or take a demonstration in of something you use in the workplace. Some schools request specifically STEM themed workshops, Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) and support with promoting Apprenticeships. Mock Interviewers: Mock interviews typically take place in a large school hall with students scheduled to visit for their allotted time. Employers are asked to ask a set of generic questions provided and to complete a small feedback section on each of the students interviewed. The feedback is presented to the school after the event by NYBEP. Business Advisers: this typically involves supporting NYBEP led STEM and Enterprise Challenges for example encouraging/listening to the student’s ideas and supporting with the judging of the final ideas. Speed Networking: this typically involves a timed (up to 5 minutes) two- way conversation between employer and student with questions and answers on employers’ job role/career pathway. Full information/briefing is provided on the day. Various: any of the above where appropriate. CPD/Networking – opportunities for employers to engage with teachers to support developing resources/updating teachers or employers.
