LA RED DE ALERTA E INFORMACIÓN FITOSANITARIA DE ANDALUCÍA (RAIF) Ricardo Alarcón Roldán Jefe del Servicio de Sanidad Vegetal, Dirección General de la Producción Agrícola y Ganadera, Consejería de Agricultura, Pesca y Medio Ambiente de la Junta de Andalucía La Red de Alerta e Información Fitosanitaria (R.A.I.F.) es un proyecto que se inicia en el año 1996 a partir de la información tomada en campo por un equipo de técnicos propios que servía de base para conocer el es- tado fitosanitario de los cultivos. Desde sus inicios, la RAIF ha tenido por objetivo dar un servicio para el sector agrícola de una comunidad autónoma como es Andalucía, que cuenta con una superficie agraria útil de más de 4,5 millones de hec- táreas, el 51% de la superficie total de Andalucía, de más de 250.000 explotaciones agrarias y cuya producción agrícola supone más de 8.000 millones de euros. En el año 2004 se incorpora información facilitada por los técnicos de las Agrupaciones de tratamiento integrado en agricultura (ATRIAS) y de las Agrupaciones de Producción Integrada (APIs) a la vez que se refuerza con un equipo propio de técnicos que se dedican a labores de formación, divulgación y seguimiento en materia de sanidad vegetal. De esta forma se intenta conseguir varios objetivos: • Disponer de una red de seguimiento de la fenología y de la situación fitosanitaria de los principales cultivos de nuestra región. • Que dicha red cubra la mayor parte del territorio andaluz. • Disponer de información fiable y segura sobre la incidencia de las plagas y las enfermedades de los cultivos más importantes para An- dalucía. • Establecer un sistema público de información fitosanitaria en parti- cular y en todo lo relacionado con la sanidad vegetal en general. 17 Consejería de Agricultura, Pesca y Medio Ambiente Con la información que facilita la RAIF, se ofrece a los agricultores una serie de herramientas que les permiten conocer prácticamente en tiempo real las distintas variables que pueden afectar a la sanidad de sus culti- vos, todo ello con el objetivo del control integrado de plagas como meta final para una agricultura sostenible y de futuro Mediante al esfuerzo continuo de la RAIF, la red actualmente

The list includes records before 1992, which have been published in previous papers, as well as data from an almost ten-year survey using Rothamsted suction traps and Moericke traps. The recorded aphidofauna consisted of 301 species. The family Aphididae is represented by 13 subfamilies and 120 genera (300 species), while only one genus (1 species) belongs to Phylloxeridae. The aphid fauna is dominated by the subfamily Aphidi- nae (57.1 and 68.4 % of the total number of genera and species, respectively), especially the tribe Macrosiphini, and to a lesser extent the subfamily Eriosomatinae (12.6 and 8.3 % of the total number of genera and species, respectively).

    BULLETIN OF THE ENTOMOLOGICAL SOCIETY OF MALTA (2009) Vol. 2 : 81-93 Aphids (Hemiptera: Aphidoidea) associated with native trees in Malta (Central Mediterranean) David MIFSUD1, Nicolás PÉREZ HIDALGO2 & Sebastiano BARBAGALLO3 ABSTRACT. In the present study 25 aphid species which are known to be associated with trees in the Maltese Islands are recorded. Of these, 18 species represent new records; these include Aphis craccivora, Brachyunguis tamaricis, Cavariella aegopodii, Chaitophorus capreae, C. populialbae, Cinara cupressi, C. maghrebica, C. palaestinensis, Essigella californica, Eulachnus rileyi, E. tuberculostemmatus, Hoplocallis picta, Lachnus roboris, Myzocallis schreiberi, Tetraneura nigriabdominalis, Thelaxes suberi, Tinocallis takachihoensis and Tuberolachnus salignus. A number of the above mentioned species alternate hosts between the primary host, being the tree species, and secondary hosts being mainly roots of grasses. The record of Tetraneura ulmi could be incorrect and could possibly be referred to T. nigriabdominalis. Most of the aphid species recorded in the present study have restricted distribution in the Maltese Islands due to the rarity of their host trees. This is particularly so for those aphids associated with Populus, Quercus, Salix and Ulmus whose conservation should be addressed. INTRODUCTION Aphids belong to the suborder Sternorrhyncha within the order Hemiptera, along with scale insects, jumping plant-lice, or psylloids, and whiteflies. The Aphidoidea is predominantly a northern temperate group, richest in species in North America, Europe, and Central and Eastern Asia. A general feature of the life cycle of aphids is their parthenogenetic generations exploiting active growing plant parts and a sexual generation resulting in an overwintering diapause egg. The known world fauna of aphids consists of approximately 4400 described species placed in nearly 500 currently accepted genera.

It has been shown that Thelaxes suberi species fed on three closely related Quercus species showed high amount of phenotypic plasticity in morphological characters. Thelaxes suberi population has the largest morphological features on Quercus infectoria and the smallest morphological features on the Quercus coccifera. It was thought that these differences related with the total protein content and level of amino acid in acorns of the host plant where Thelaxes individuals were collected during this study. Findings of the study indicated how high is phenotypic plasticity capacity of aphid species and interactions with host plant properties. Another important implication of the result is that as aphid has a close relationship with host plant and even small amount of changes in the same Quercus species caused that amount of plasticity in Thelaxes species. Recent ecological changes including climatic fluctuations directly influences host plants morphological/nutritional composition and might also impacts the diversity and distribution of aphid species. Findings were also discussed for possible changes in host plant range of the T. suberi as a result of the current phenotypic plasticity and possible interactions between different types of phenotypic plasticities.

We analyzed the molecular phylogeny of the subfamily Eriosomatinae, combining sequences from 2 mitochondrial genes (COI and COII) and 2 nuclear genes (EF-1α and LWO). The reconstructions were implemented based on single-gene and multigene datasets through 3 different reconstructing algorithms, respectively; analyses with 5 different out-groups were also conducted. Results revealed a large paraphyletic clade, in which there were 4 out-groups clustering between Eriosomatini and the other 2 tribes. Such parasites are often related to their hosts and may evolve in various ecological contexts, causing evolutionary constraints and opportunities for both parasites and their hosts. In extreme cases, patterns of diver- sification between social parasites and their hosts can be coupled, such that diversity of one is correlated with or even shapes the diversity of the other. Aphids in the genus Tamalia induce galls on North American manzanita (Arctostaphylos) and related shrubs (Arbutoideae) and are parasitized by nongalling social parasites or inquilines in the same genus. We used RNA sequencing to identify and generate new gene sequences for Tamalia and performed maximum-likelihood, Bayesian and phylogeographic analy- ses to reconstruct the origins and patterns of diversity and host-associated differentia- tion in the genus. Our results indicate that the Tamalia inquilines are monophyletic and closely related to their gall-forming hosts on Arctostaphylos, supporting a previ- ously proposed scenario for origins of these parasitic aphids. Unexpectedly, population structure and host-plant-associated differentiation were greater in the non-gall-inducing parasites than in their gall-inducing hosts.

Native species of plants-phanerophytes were visited by 19 species of ants (Formicidae) and invasive plant species by 16 species of ants. Only one aphid species (Aphis craccivora Koch) found on invasive plant species was invasive. Most species of invasive phanerophytes are not very attractive for ants, since they are practically not populated by aphids (Acer negundo, Amorpha fruticosa). Some tree species are inhabited by aphids only at the beginning of their life cycle (Padus serotina). Only some species of invasive plants (Quercus rubra, Salix fragilis) can be infested with aphids throughout their life cycle, and accordingly, are visited by ants. Architecture of the forewing base was imaged with scanning electron and optical (fluorescence) microscopy. Significant differences in morphology of axillary sclerites between aphid species were observed, despite their belonging to one infraorder. Detailed description of 41 features of axil- lary sclerites was made. There was no difference between axillaries of viviparous (Aphididae) and oviparous (Adelges sp., Phylloxera sp.) species. No clear relationship between morphology of the axillary sclerites and the wing folding could be confirmed. Instead, the thorax structure determines the way the wing folds in aphids. Phylogenetic analysis based on our results cannot be conducted at this stage of study. To show how three-dimensional the structures are and how difficult to describe, a short animation of Aphis fabae (Aphididae) wing base was added.
