Without the ongoing support of the City of Calgary, we would be unable to make significant contributions, like the Calgary Greenway, to the citizens of this great city. As we move into 2013 we are encouraged and excited by the potential all of our projects and programs present. We anticipate beginning construction on the final phase of the Greenway, building numerous John Houghton Myrna Dubé playgrounds around the city, expanding our Chairman, Board of Governors Chief Executive Officer Horticultural Program, launching Bio-Energy Park and continuing to support amateur athletes. Phase 1 is funded and complete and the City has now taken over maintenance. The rail crossing near Memorial Drive SE is outstanding but CN is working with the City and Transport Canada to resolve this as soon as possible. Phase 2 construction began and is 80% funded. The pathway and spur into Ralph Klein Park was constructed and Greenway signage was installed in Fish Creek Park. The boardwalks and wetland interpretive areas will be constructed over the winter and construction is anticipated to be complete in 2013. The first Walk-With-Us Festival took place in Phase 1 in June 2012 and was a huge success. More than 1,000 Calgarians came out to the event. A city-wide Greenway event will be planned for 2013 in Phase 2 in partnership with Calgary’s Rotary Clubs and Brookfield Residential Properties. Ground3 was brought on to prepare a draft alignment of Phase 3. Phase 3 will be the final phase of the project and construction will begin in 2013 in concurrent increments. When complete, the Calgary Greenway will provide users with 138 km of year-round outdoor destinations available to explore and open to everyone. 7 In 2012, Parks Foundation Calgary welcomed the members of the Calgary Greenway Patrons Council. The Patrons Council members are ambassadors of the project and provide valuable insight based on their experience and expertise.
