Bus and Coach Transport Information Bus and Coach Transport Information Wolverhampton Grammar School Bus and Coach Transport Information Wolverhampton Grammar School is well served by public bus services from Wolverhampton City Centre, Bridgnorth, Castlecroft, Claverley, Codsall, Perton, Pattingham, Pendeford, Telford, Tettenhall and Worfield. The City Centre also has a train station operated by Virgin Trains serving all mainline routes in and around Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Telford and Shrewsbury. The School also operates its own Bus and Coach services (in collaboration with Hills Coaches). Buses and coaches are provided every day the School is open to our students (excluding induction days). Parents are asked to ensure that their child is ready at the bus stop ten minutes before the times indicated on the routes. All times are approximate and may vary slightly in difficult weather conditions. In the event of adverse weather or to contact drivers urgently, please contact Hills Coaches direct tel 07710 113941 for Penkridge, Stourbridge, Telford and Walsall routes and Wolverhampton Grammar School tel 07584 568161 for the Bridgnorth route. Tickets may be purchased as a termly pass for both mornings and evenings or subject to availability: as a morning termly pass as an evening termly pass or as single trip tickets for ad hoc journeys. A daily travel service booking form must be completed for all types of tickets. This form is available from Diane Hartshorne or Stephanie Netzer at School or can be downloaded from wgs.org.uk/school-life/school-operated-transport Termly passes need to be booked in advance of each academic year. Single trip tickets can be purchased at least one day in advance from the Main School Reception. Charges for termly passes and single trip tickets will be added to your next term’s fee bill. For students in Year 11 and Year 13, a 50% reduction will be given on the termly pass charge during the Summer Term because of public examinations. Bus prices are calculated based on the provider i.e. a school minibus or coach provided by Hills Coaches and the number of miles a bus stop is away from the school, which have been split into zonal areas: Zone 1 (0-6 miles), Zone 2 (6-10 miles), Zone 3 (10-15 miles), Zone 4 (15+ miles). Abstract The Anglo-Saxon period spanned over 600 years, beginning in the fifth century with migrations into the Roman province of Britannia by peoples’ from the Continent, witnessing the arrival of Scandinavian raiders and settlers from the ninth century and ending with the Norman Conquest of a unified England in 1066. This was a period of immense cultural, political, economic and religious change. The archaeological evidence for this period is however sparse in comparison with the preceding Roman period and the following medieval period. This is particularly apparent in regions of western England, and our understanding of Shropshire, a county with a notable lack of Anglo-Saxon archaeological or historical evidence, remains obscure. This research aims to enhance our understanding of the Anglo-Saxon period in Shropshire by combining multiple sources of evidence, including the growing body of artefacts recorded by the Portable Antiquity Scheme, to produce an over-view of Shropshire during the Anglo-Saxon period.

    The Schoolmasters of Birmingham and the West Midlands, 1750-1790: Private Education and Cultural. Change in the English Provinces During the Early Industrial Revolution by John MONEY* In a recent essay J. H. Plumb writes of a "cultural revolution," which, three centuries after its first germination, "burst into vigorous man­ hood" in eighteenth century England. Here, the ancient dualism in human history between the formal culture of the governing aristocracies and the popular traditions of the peasantry was for the first time decisively replaced by "a mass culture, belonging essentially to the middle class , ... which, if it did not quite obliterate the other two , drove them into smaller and smaller enclaves." 1 If the metaphors are mixed, so was the transformation which they describe. It is not hard to agree with Professor Plumb when he lists the three conditions of his revolution as technological advance, consider­ able dissemination of wealth and freedom; it is , in fact, tempting to conti­ nue the same train of thought a step further by spelling out a fourth condi­ tion which is surely implicit in the third: the achievement of political stabil­ ity in ways which remained compatible with freedom. 2 It was this, we might conclude, which guaranteed the success of the revolution by main­ taining an environment in which it could proceed undisturbed by the con­ strictions of authority, or by the threat of political turmoil. But was the process of change as straightforward or as progressive as this view of it suggests?
