Undated 1842 Examinations of William & Thomas Bawden (re Settlement of William Bawden & family)

County of The Examination of William Bawden now residing in the Parish of Parish of Saint Erme in the County of Cornwall touching the place of his last legal Settlement taken upon oath before us two if Her Majesty’s Justices of the Peace in and for the said County of Cornwall, this day of 1842

Who saith, that he is now resident in and chargeable to the Parish of Saint Erme in the County of Cornwall and has a wife Elizabeth and six children by her namely John aged almost fifteen Elizabeth aged about thirteen William aged eleven Thomas aged almost nine Joseph aged about six and James aged almost three years all resident with Deponent and chargeable as aforesaid

The Examination of Thomas Bawden of the Parish of in the County of Cornwall labourer taken on oath before us the day and year first aforesaid who saith that he is the Father of William Bawden the Pauper abovenamed who was born in lawful wedlock of Jane Bawden the wife of Deponent – that the said William Bawden is almost forty one years old and was born in the Parish of Perranzabuloe at a tenement called Lamburn where Deponent and his said wife then lived

7th February 1842 Removal Order to Perranzabuloe (William Bawden & family)

To the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Saint Erme in the County of Cornwall, and to the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Perranzabuloe in the said County of and to each and every of them

County of UPON the complaint of the Church‐wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Cornwall Parish of Saint Erme aforesaid in the said County of Cornwall unto us whose To Wit Names are hereunto set and Seals affixed being Two of Her Majesty’s Justices of the Peace, in and for the said County of Cornwall and one of us of the Quorum that William Bawden and Elizabeth his wife and John aged about fifteen years, Elizabeth aged about thirteen years, William aged about eleven years, Thomas aged about nine years, Joseph aged about six years and James aged about three years have come to inhabit in the said Parish of Saint Erme not having gained a legal settlement there nor produced any Certificate owning them to be settled elsewhere and that the said William Bawden and Elizabeth his wife and their said children are now actually chargeable to the said Parish of Saint Erme We the said Justices upon due proof made thereof as well as upon Examination of the said William Bawden upon oath as otherwise upon due consideration had of the Premises do adjudge the same to be true and we do likewise adjudge that the lawful Settlement of the said William Bawden and Elizabeth his wife and their said children is in the said Parish of Perranzabuloe in the said County We do therefore require you the said Churchwardens and Overseers of the said Parish of Saint Erme or some or one of you to convey the said William Bawden and Elizabeth his wife and their said children from and out of the said Parish of Saint Erme to the said Parish of Perranzabuloe and them to deliver to the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor there or to some or one of them together with this our Order or a true Copy thereof at the same time shewing to them the original and we do also hereby require you the said Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Perranzabuloe to receive and provide for them according to Law. Given under our Hands and Seals, this seventh day of February in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Forty two

10th February 1842 Notice of Removal Order St Erme to Perranzabuloe (William Bawden)

NOTICE

In the matter of William Bawden Pauper

To the Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Perranzabuloe in the County of Cornwall

We the Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Saint Erme in the County of Cornwall, do hereby give you notice that the above named William Bawden become chargeable to the Parish of Saint Erme aforesaid and that an Order has been duly obtained for the removal to your said Parish of Perranzabuloe as the place of his last legal settlement (a Copy of which Order and also a copy of the Examination on which the same Order was founded and made are herewith sent) – And we do also hereby further give you notice that unless you appeal against the said Order and within 21 days from the date hereof duly serve notice of such appeal the said Pauper will be removed to your said Parish of Perranzabuloe in pursuance of the said Order.

7th February 1842 Examination of Thomas Hall (re Settlement of William Bawden & family) (separate handwritten document)

Cornwall The Examination of Thomas Hall one of the Relieving Officers of the to wit Union in the County of Cornwall taken on Oath before us two of her Majesty’s Justices of the Peace in and for the said County this seventh day of February 1842 Who saith that almost two years since he gave relief to William Bawden a Pauper now resident in the Parish of Saint Erme by the direction of the Board of Guardians for the said Union and continued the same from time to time for three or four months that such relief was given to the said Pauper whilst resident in the Parish of Kenwyn in the said County at the expence of the Parish of Perranzabuloe in the said County and that about two months ago he relieved the said Pauper at the expence and by the authority of the Overseers of Perranzabuloe aforesaid whilst living in the Parish of Saint Erme
