SHOTGUN JIMMIE – TRANSISTOR SISTER 2 LABEL: YOU’VE CHANGED RECORDS CATALOG: YC-039 FORMAT: LP/CD RELEASE DATE: AUGUST 2, 2019 Are you ready for the new sincerity?! Shotgun Jimmie’s new album Transistor Sister 2 is full of genuine pop gems that champion truth and love. Jimmie is joined by long- time collaborators Ryan Peters (Ladyhawk) and Jason Baird (DoMakeSayThink) for this sequel to the Polaris Prize nominated album Transistor Sister from 2011. José Contreras (By Divine Right) produced and recorded the record in Toronto, Ontario at The Chat Chateaux and joins the band on keys. In characteristic Shotgun Jimmie fashion, the songs on Transistor Sister 2 focus largely on family and friends with a heavy dose of nostalgia. Jimmie’s hyperbolic takes on the everyday reconstruct familiar scenarios, from traffic on the 401 (the beloved and scorned mega- highway through Toronto known to all touring musicians Blues Riffs as the place where punctual arrival at soundcheck goes Tumbleweed to die) to cooking dinner. Hot Pots Ablutions The album’s lead single Cool All the Time is a plea for Fountain people to abandon ego and strive for authenticity, Suddenly Submarine featuring contributions by Chad VanGaalen, Steven Piano (with band) Lambke and Cole Woods. This intimate portrait, captured just months before his untimely passing, brings us incredibly close to Jay's complicated punk-rock world in Memphis, Tennessee. To expand on their short film WAITING FOR SOMETHING, filmmakers Alex Hammond and Ian Markiewicz returned to Tennessee to interview his friends, family, and colleagues in the immediate aftermath of Jay's abrupt death. BETTER THAN SOMETHING eloquently interweaves cinéma vérité, interviews, and archival concert performances, and features scenes from an insightful and candid week spent with Jay, who reveals personal childhood stories and the struggles of his life in Memphis. Tirelessly devoting his entire life to music, Jay Reatard has become a garage rock icon, having created a massive discography spread out over dozens of singles, EPs, and full-length albums, released on labels like Matador, Fat Possum and In The Red. A relentless live performer, Jay toured the world with dozens of bands including Reatards, Lost Sounds, Bad Times, Persuaders, Cheap Time, The Pixies, Spoon, Beck and many more.

Among their targets was a music genre called heavy metal. Ever since its emergence, the genre met with serious opposition. I contend that independent hip-hop remains a complex contemporary subculture. My research design utilizes a mixed methods approach. First, I analyze the lyrics of independent hip-hop albums through a content analysis of twenty-five independent albums from 2000-2013. I uncover the dominant ideologies of independent hip-hop artists regarding race, class, gender, sexual orientation, and calls for social change.
