Luke 18:9-14 A LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, This weekend, October 19-20, 2019, we celebrate the annual World Mission Sunday. This Sunday is a me set aside for all Catholics around the world during Mass to publicly renew our commitment to our sacred call to be missionaries of the Good News. Because of our Bapsm, we are all missionaries, called to witness our faith with others and to support in prayer and sacrifice the work of our missionaries who relessly bring the Gospel to the ends of the world, especially to the most poor and abandoned places. At this me, the annual collecon is also to be taken up in all dioceses and parishes. Pope Pius XI established this collecon in 1926 to provide funding for the missionaries of the worldwide Church. Pope John Paul II, in his 1990 encyclical, “Redemptoris Missio,” called World Mission Sunday “an important day in the life of the Church because it teaches how to give: as an offering made to God, in the Eucharisc celebraon and for all the missions of the world.” Having this in mind, we, as a parish, renew our support for the Mission. This weekend, we conduct the combined collecon for Mission Sunday. Kindly use the envelope you received in the mail during the week and please be generous with your contribuon for the Mission. If you have accepted the thing way of giving, this contribuon comes from the 4% poron of your income that you direct toward worthy charies. This collecon will benefit approximately 1,200 missionary territories around the world. Funding is administered by the Society for the Propagaon of the Faith, one of four Ponfical Mission Sociees which seeks to foster a “spirit of universal mission, to inform Catholics of the life and the needs of the Catholic Church in the missions, and to encourage prayer and financial help for those mission churches.” Please pray and support our Catholic Mission. Despite the financial difficules we are facing as individuals and as a naon, we remain the most significant sign and source of hope for the needy throughout the world. Our sacrificial giving will not go unrewarded by the Good Lord. Sincerely Yours In Christ, Fr. Respect Life Month: Reflection How to Build a Culture of Life Read the full version at respectlifeprogram.org/culture-of-life Watching the news and reading the headlines, we may feel helpless seeing the heartbreaking lack of respect for human life. How do we respond? Changing the culture is a process of conversion that begins in our own hearts. When we encounter Christ, experience His love, and deepen our relaonship with Him, we become more aware of our own immeasurable worth and that of others. His unchanging love is the source of our God-given dignity, which, therefore, cannot be taken away. When someone is facing great trials, we need to walk with them on their journey, intercede for them, and be open to sharing Christ’s love however He directs. We simply need to follow where He leads. PALABRAS CLAVE: sacerdocio, don, misterio, eucaristía, caridad pastoral ABSTRACT: The author develops this paper in the form of a diptych. Firstly, he deals with the theology and priestly spirituality of John Paul II, seen throughout his char- acteristic magisterial journey. In a second moment, the author exposes, by way of synthesis, the priestly ministry that Saint John Paul II offers us. This bridges the gap between ontotheological reality and its moral development through a compelling exhortation to sanctity of life in pastoral charity. The Holy See POST-SYNODAL APOSTOLIC EXHORTATION QUERIDA AMAZONIA OF THE HOLY FATHER FRANCIS TO THE PEOPLE OF GOD AND TO ALL PERSONS OF GOOD WILL [pdf] 1. The beloved Amazon region stands before the world in all its splendour, its drama and its mystery. God granted us the grace of focusing on that region during the Synod held in Rome from 6-27 October last, which concluded by issuing its Final Document, The Amazon: New Paths for the Church and for an Integral Ecology. The significance of this Exhortation 2. During the Synod, I listened to the presentations and read with interest the reports of the discussion groups. In this Exhortation, I wish to offer my own response to this process of dialogue and discernment. I will not go into all of the issues treated at length in the final document. Nor do I claim to replace that text or to duplicate it. I wish merely to propose a brief framework for reflection that can apply concretely to the life of the Amazon region a synthesis of some of the larger concerns that I have expressed in earlier documents, and that can help guide us to a harmonious, creative and fruitful reception of the entire synodal process. 3. At the same time, I would like to officially present the Final Document, which sets forth the conclusions of the Synod, which profited from the participation of many people who know better than myself or the Roman Curia the problems and issues of the Amazon region, since they live 2 there, they experience its suffering and they love it passionately.
