The essential oils of 10 species were extracted by hydrodistillation and analyzed by a gas chromatography-flame ionization detector (GC-FID) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The main component of Eucalyptus crebra, E. microtheca, E. rudis and Melaleuca quinquenervia essential oils was 1,8-cineole (31.6-49.7%). E. melanophloia and E. tereticornis contained p-cymene (41.8-58.1%) as a major component, while Eucalyptus kitsoniana and E. pruinosa essential oils were dominated by α-pinene (25.8-31.4%). Eugenol methyl ether was identified as a major component in M. bracteata essential oil (82.3%). α-Pinene (31.4%) was the main component in the C. viminalis essential oil. Native vegetation of estuaries and saline waterways in south Western Australia Department of Conservation and Land Management 1997 USING THIS BOOKLET The Water and Rivers Commission has published two companion booklets, one entitled Native vegetation of freshwater rivers and creeks in south Western Australia and this present one, Native vegetation of estuaries and saline waterways in south Western Australia to encourage protection and restoration of the streamline vegetation which is vital to maintaining the ecology and water quality of our creeks, rivers and estuaries. It is hoped that these booklets will be useful to community rivercare and landcare groups and other people interested in local flora who wish to identify common plants found along the various types of waterways. If you are interested in joining volunteer rivercare groups, you can contact the appropriate local council or the Water and Rivers Commission. This booklet deals with the species commonly encountered near saline waterways and wetlands. Because the flora of Western Australia is rich and varied some of the species described here may be confused with plants of other habitats so ensure that your plant has come from a saline environment. The terminology has been simplified as far as possible and a glossary of terms is provided at the back. Inside the back cover there is a transect showing where the various plants may be found and a page index for each plant. For further information about the vegetation of saline waterways and other habitats a reference list is provided. Species information 1 Forest Products Commission Species information Beefwood Grevillea striata Beefwood is a medium-sized tree to 14 m, usually with a single trunk and diameter up to 600 mm. Bark is deeply fissured, rough dark grey to the branches, while new bark is rufous red. It grows in the northern Goldfields, Murchison, eastern Gascoyne, southern Pilbara and the Kimberley. Wood description Heartwood is a rich red colour, and straight-grained, with distinctive rays on quartersawn timber. Sapwood is a pale yellow. Wood density Green density is about 1230 kg/m3, air-dry density about 965 kg/m3, and basic density about 820 kg/m3. Drying and shrinkage Tangential and radial shrinkage are about 3.3 and 2.0 per cent respectively. Workability Goldfields craftsmen rate beefwood as very poor for sanding, average for boring, screwholding, stability and finishing, good for machinability and gluing, and excellent for turning. Strength group and properties AS2879 rates beefwood as (S3) and (SD4), which was confirmed by the above air-dry density. The more important strength properties based on strength groups are given in the table below. 8 SUBJECT: Falcon Local Area Traffic Management Investigation: Outcomes and Recommendations DIRECTOR: Director Works and Services MEETING: Council Meeting MEETING DATE: 26 May 2020 Summary Over the past twelve months, the City has been contacted by a number of residents requesting traffic management measures be installed in streets within the Falcon locality. Officers were also referred to the outcomes of a previous study. In response, a review of the Falcon locality was undertaken and an assessment made using the 2006 study as a baseline for vehicle traffic speeds and patterns that may have occurred over the intervening years. Council is requested to receive this report and note the recommendations resulting from the study. Such recommendations would be considered in the preparation of future capital works programs. Disclosure of Interest N/A Location The location of the study encompassed the suburb of Falcon focussing on roads on the western side of Old Coast Road within the boundary highlighted below. Report 8 Page 159 Previous Relevant Documentation • The Worley Parson’s Falcon Traffic Study – 11 May 2006 Background In 2006, the City engaged Worley Parsons to conduct a Traffic Study (the ‘Study’) across the suburb of Falcon. The intent of the Study was to understand traffic conditions throughout Falcon following resident concerns regarding vehicle speeds and road safety. The outcomes of the Study were then used to identify potential infrastructure upgrades to improve road safety and amenity within the suburb. The Study considered anecdotal evidence received from residents of the Falcon community, a review of historical traffic count data and crash data, as well as assessment of the existing road infrastructure. -

LABORATORY FEEDING TESTS ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF GYPSY MOTH LARVAE WITH REFERENCE TO PLANT TAXA AND ALLELOCHEMICALS JEFFREY C. MILLER and PAUL E. HANSON DEPARTMENT OF ENTOMOLOGY, OREGON STATE UNIVERSITY, CORVALLIS, OREGON 97331 ABSTRACT The first through fifth instars of the gypsy moth were tested for development to adults on 326 species of dicotyledonous plants in laboratory feeding trials. Among accepted plants, differences in suitability were documented by measuring female pupal weights. The majority of accepted plants belong to the subclasses Dilleniidae, Hamamelidae, and Rosidae. Species of oak, maple, alder, madrone, eucalyptus, poplar, and sumac were highly suitable. Plants belonging to the Asteridae, Caryophyllidae, and Magnoliidae were mostly rejected. Foliage type, new or old, and instar influenced host plant suitability. Larvae of various instars were able to pupate after feeding on foliage of 147 plant species. Of these, 1.01 were accepted by first instars. Larvae from the first through fifth instar failed to molt on foliage of 151 species. Minor feeding occurred on 67 of these species. In general, larvae accepted new foliage on evergreen species more readily than old foliage. The results of these trials were combined with results from three previous studies to provide data on feeding responses of gypsy moth larvae on a total of 658 species, 286 genera, and 106 families of dicots. Allelochemic compositions of these plants were tabulated from available literature and compared with acceptance or rejection by gypsy moth. Plants accepted by gypsy moth generally contain tannins, but lack alkaloids, iridoid monoterpenes, sesquiterpenoids, diterpenoids, and glucosinolates. 2 PREFACE This research was funded through grants from USDA Forest Service cooperative agreement no. -
