In Roman mythology, holly was the sacred plant of the god , and to honor him at the Saturnalia festival, the Romans gave each other gifts of holly wreaths. Holly berries were also considered sacred to the sun-god. When began to celebrate the birth of Jesus, they risked being persecuted for their new religion, and to avoid detection, they would place holly wreaths in their houses. As far as passers by were concerned they were celebrating Saturnalia. Over the centuries, holly has become a symbol for peace and joy, and people often settled disputes under a holly tree. The Celtic druids once worshipped the holly tree. They cut the spiky branches as rods of life. The red berries embodied male and female fertility. United in the ritual performed for the summer solstice, these two plants became “mythical parents” and played the vital role of guaranteeing renewed life in springtime. In the Roman Bacchus cult, holly was the female counterpart to the male ivy, and this is why doors of houses were decorated with wreaths from both plants during Saturnalia.

In Roman times, ivy was the symbol of Bacchus, who was the god of and revelry. He wore it in his crown, and Pagans believed ivy to be a symbol of eternal life. Early Christians used ivy to decorate the outside of their churches. Christmas Wreaths Laurel or bay leaves were popular with the pagan Romans because the leaves were sacred to Apollo, the sun god. Wassailing is an ancient custom that is not seen very often today. The word derives from the Anglo-Saxon phrase "waes hael," which translates as "good health." The wassail drink was originally made from mulled ale, curdled cream, roasted apples, eggs, spices, and sugar, and was served from large silver bowls, maybe holding as much as ten gallons. Wotan is the god who is driven to amass knowledge. He wants to know everything; he craves knowledge. For this, he travels all the lands over and—wounded by a spear—hangs himself upside down, for nine nights, on the shamanic world tree, to get to know all nine shamanic worlds and absorb all their knowledge. Myrrh - This was also a production of Arabia, and was obtained from a tree in the same manner as frankincense. The name denotes bitterness, and was given to it on account of its great bitterness. We find out that’s the order of the priesthood, to make an offering to Jehovah. When he made the offering, it had to be made and mixed with frankincense for a -offering, they took different things and mixed it. For the meal-offering, for the wave- offering, frankincense was added. Because, it was acceptable to Jehovah if it was anointed with frankincense, which means it is a “service to Jehovah, God.” And, now, we find out He’s Deity. And they brought Him frankincense, was a type that He was a service to Jehovah. He protected It until they arrived with those gifts, because they were fitting for the time. Does my church understand that? That’s what’s going on now! I hope it ain’t over your head. I have to speak it in parable, almost, you see. But do you see? It’s the things that’s happening is fitting for this day, Laodicea. It’s the fitting time, that’s the reason God has protected It. See, brought It right through to identify Himself. Gifts, though it cost a death, it put a stumbling block in their way. It’s a fitting time, that’s right, fitting for the day.
