Cristom Winery Cristom Winery Cristom Vineyards was established by visionary founder, Paul Gerrie and his wife Eileen in 1992, who each possess a deep-rooted respect for the land, the natural winemaking process, and Pinot Noir. More than 25 years later, second-generation winegrower and owner Tom Gerrie leads winemaker Steve Doerner and our tenured viticulture team in tending our Estate vineyards, and producing elegant, dynamic wines, recognizable by our hallmark style of whole-cluster fermentation by native yeasts. Our winemaking philosophy begins with respect for our land and estate vines. We're proud to be Certified Sustainable by Low Input Viticulture & Enology (LIVE), both in our winery which we run responsibly, and in our fields, that are thoughtfully and meticulously farmed with a focus on quality. The four estate Pinot Noir vineyards - Eileen, Jessie, Louise and Marjorie, named for Gerrie family matriarchs - each possess natural variances in soil, elevation and exposition. With minimal intervention during the winemaking process, Tom, Steve and team strive to craft wines that are an honest recording of both the vineyard and the vintage, producing the ultimate expressions of the stellar fruit we’re fortunate enough to work with. Recognized globally as a leading producer in our beloved Willamette Valley, our wines continue to be a unique blend of tradition, modernity and finesse. Steve Doerner (Winemaker) In 1992, after working for Calera (a California Pinot Noir producer) for 14 years, I was ready for a change. I identified two goals to help determine where I wanted to work next. First, I wanted to continue making Pinot Noir, and second I wanted to work for a small company. It didn’t take much persuasion from Paul Gerrie to convince me that Oregon was the place and that Cristom was the company. At the time it seemed like a hard decision but it’s been twenty years now, and I’ve never looked back. My goal is to make wines that have balance, wines that have weight and power and finesse and elegance. I’ve honed my craft by traveling and studying winemaking around the world. I’ve been to Chile, Italy, France, Germany, Australia, and New Zealand. But Oregon is always home and I like working at Cristom because it’s so varied. My work is influenced by the seasons and by a constant desire to meld the art of winemaking with the terroir of the Willamette Valley. Of course I’m incredibly proud of our Pinot noirs, but also of our exceptional Chardonnay, Viognier, and Syrah. Cristom Winery Winegrower/Owner Tom Gerrie is the Winegrower and second- generation owner of Cristom Vineyards. Originally hailing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Tom’s parents, Paul and Eileen Gerrie, founded Cristom in 1992, and moved the family west to the Willamette Valley. After graduating from the University of Washington, Tom went on to work harvests at a number of wineries that have inspired and influenced him, including: Bethel Heights Vineyard in the Willamette Valley; Domaine François Mikulski of Meursault in Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune; and Brian Croser’s Tappanappa Wines in the Adelaide Hills and Medhurst Wines in the Yarra Valley of Australia. Tom joined the Cristom Vineyards production team full-time in 2007 and became majority owner in 2012, at which time he began overseeing all aspects of production, both in the winery and in the vineyard. He began transitioning the estate to Biodynamic farming in 2017, and is working hard to lead and build on the foundation of the great winegrowing team his father assembled, and inspire innovation to drive the company forward with a 100-year vision. .

  • 2007 Pinot Noir Southeast Block
THE SOUTHEAST BLOCK The Southeast Block is a six-acre section of the Bethel Heights estate vineyard that consistently gives us wines of distinctive character. It was planted in 1979 on a south-facing slope between 420 and 520 feet elevation. The red clay soil is volcanic in origin, three feet deep and well drained. The vines are 100% Pommard clone, planted on their own roots in Oregon's pre- phylloxera days. At 30 years old the vines are still healthy and apparently phylloxera-free. The crop is held close to two tons per acre for optimum quality. THE 2007 VINTAGE was a classic cool Oregon vintage, similar to 2005 (and 1999 and 2001) and 2007 PINOT NOIR ® SOUTHEAST BLOCK very different from 2006, our hottest vintage on record. American Palate, Charleston, South Carolina, 2013, 160 pp., ISBN: 978-1609496760 (paperback), $19.99. CILA WARNCKE: Oregon Wine Pioneers. Vine Lives Publishing, Portland, Oregon, 2015, 234 pp., ISBN: 978-1943090761 (paperback), $19.99. Admittedly, it was hard to write a dispassionate review of books that so lovingly describe the region in which I live and so admiringly profile many of my acquain- tances in the Oregon wine industry. Therefore, I used as measures of merit how well each echoed my impressions of this most beautiful area and its people, and whether each accomplished its objectives. Perry’s and Vincent’s Winemakers of the Willamette Valley (WWV) “is meant to showcase the stories of a handful of Oregon’s many Willamette Valley winemakers” (WWV, p. 11). A foreword by Chehalem founder Harry Peterson-Nedry sets the per- sonal tone that pervades those stories. Next, in a mere eight pages of text, the first chapter, “History of the Willamette Valley Wine Region,” covers the climate, soil, grape selection, craftsmanship, industry structure and early success in sufficient detail to provide valuable context. The authors then share intimate interviews with eighteen vintners and vignerons. Within each chapter named for one or two wine- makers are brief descriptions of the wineries that each is affiliated with. These include year founded, ownership, varietals, tasting room location, hours and con- tacts. Sustainability features, a point of pride in the Oregon wine industry, are also listed.

WELCOME 2020 is a year of change. In every corner of the world, and in every area of our own lives, things are very different than they were one year ago. And with that change, there has been struggle. A struggle to find new ways of doing what must be done, a struggle to let go of what can no longer be, and for some, a struggle to survive. Between the moments of struggle, remarkable adaptation has taken root – growing despite challenge. Together, we have created, we have collaborated, and we have adapted. Still in progress, and evolving, but from challenge has risen a new recognition of the ways in which we are connected. So here we are – somewhat disconnected physically, but adapting together to create solutions for the evolving challenge of healthcare disparities in our community. Thank you for showing up to create a strong, stable safety net of accessible, affordable healthcare for Oregon’s vineyard workers and their families. Thank you for saying yes to acknowledging your actions, your contributions can help shape the storyline of this challenging year, and strengthen our response for the future. ¡Salud! AGE IS JUST A NUMBER. IT´S TOTALLY IRRELEVANT, UNLESS OF COURSE, YOU HAPPEN TO BE A BOTTLE OF WINE! - JOAN COLLINS WELCOME TO THE WINE SELECTION OF NORDA! This is a predominately American wine list. We serve wine from all over America but mainly from Oregon. Oregon are bordered by Washington on the north and California in the south.
