V765/1 List of Vehicle Owners Clubs N.B. The information contained in this booklet was correct at the time of going to print. The most up to date version is available on the internet website: www.gov.uk/vehicle-registration/old-vehicles 8/21 V765 scheme How to register your vehicle under its original registration number: a. Applications must be submitted on form V765 and signed by the keeper of the vehicle agreeing to the terms and conditions of the V765 scheme. A V55/5 should also be filled in and a recent photograph of the vehicle confirming it as a complete entity must be included. A FEE IS NOT APPLICABLE as the vehicle is being re-registered and is not applying for first registration. b. The application must have a V765 form signed, stamped and approved by the relevant vehicle owners/enthusiasts club (for their make/type), shown on the ‘List of Vehicle Owners Clubs’ (V765/1). The club may charge a fee to process the application. c. Evidence MUST be presented with the application to link the registration number to the vehicle. Acceptable forms of evidence include:- • The original old style logbook (RF60/VE60). • Archive/Library records displaying the registration number and the chassis number authorised by the archivist clearly defining where the material was taken from. • Other pre 1983 documentary evidence linking the chassis and the registration number to the vehicle. If successful, this registration number will be allocated on a non-transferable basis. How to tax the vehicle If your application is successful, on receipt of your V5C you should apply to tax at the Post Office® in the usual way. -

TRIUMPH 1800-2000 Renown Saloon the Triumph 1800-2000
TRIUMPH 1800-2000 Renown Saloon The Triumph 1800-2000 Saloon known as the “Razor Edge” due to its straight angular panels and sharp profile was built between 1946 and 1953. It was a post war car built to pre-war specifications i.e. a separate chassis, with the body built up as a traditional ash frame and styling that dated back to the late 1930’s. The sedan copied the Rolls Royce and Bentleys of the time in its styling, and was one of the first cars to be stretched to make a limousine, complete with glass partition behind the driver. Initially the vehicle was fitted with a 1776cc four-cylinder engine developing 65bhp which in 1948 was enlarged to 2088cc (still only producing 68bhp) and had a top speed of around 80mph. Late models had overdrive as an option on their 3-speed gearboxes and the Renown appeared as an upgraded 2000 Sedan in 1950. The car was not a commercial success however as despite its luxurious appointments, it was always too expensive, compared to its competition and in the British post-war ‘export or die’ atmosphere less than 10% of the total production of 15,400 were exported. TRIUMPH MAYFLOWER The Mayflower was introduced in 1949 and was Triumph’s first post war “small” car. The razor edge lines allowed excellent space utilisation enabling four adults to fit in with ease. It was one of the first cars to feature the “modern” trend of a large glass area, and the square boot handled a full compliment of luggage. -

I primi anni Il primo modello prodotto dalla Triumph fu la 10/20 con motore di 1,4 litri, che ottenne un buon successo (anche se la produzione non era su grande scala). Questa vettura era, in realtà, disegnata dalla Lea-Francis, che pretendeva una royalties su ogni unità venduta. La produzione di grande serie iniziò nel 1927, con la Super 7. Questo modello ottenne un successo tale che, nel 1930 venne creata la divisione autonoma Triumph Motor Company. La Super 7 rimase in produzione fino al 1934. Negli anni successivi vennero stretti accordi con la Coventry Climax per la progettazione di motori (comunque assemblati dalla Triumph). Negli anni trenta la società, composta ormai da 3 divisioni, Triumph Cycle Company, Triumph Motorcycle Company e Triumph Motor Company, in difficoltà finanziaria, cedette la divisione che produceva le biciclette (1932) e motociclistica (1936), per concentrarsi sulla produzione automobilistica. Nel 1937 venne nominato capo progettazione Donald Healey, che rese autonoma la Triumph nella progettazione dell'intera vettura (motori inclusi). Il primo modello progettato da Healey fu la Dolomite del 1938, spinta da un motore 8 cilindri in linea e ispirata, narra la leggenda, all'Alfa Romeo 8C 2300. -

But that styling certainly left an imprint on Bob Mann, one that kept him searching for a Mayflower for many years as Pat recently found out. “After I left school I worked for a few months in the local Standard/Triumph/Ferguson dealer here in Nowra,” recalled Bob. A Mayflower occasionally came in for service. The unique shape and the styling really appealed to me and I promised myself that if I ever had the chance I would buy one.” The reasons for the Mayflower’s appearance have a great deal to do with Sir John Black, Standard- Triumph’s autocratic chief in the immediate post-World War Two years. -

OLDTIMER RALLY 2018 Bank Holiday Mon 27 August www.oldtimer.uk.com CHAIRMAN SECRETARY Michael Stainer Mrs Eileen Watling The Grand Lynsted Cottage The Leas Farthing Common Folkestone Lyminge CT20 2XL UK CT18 8DH UK +44 (0)1303 222 200 +44 (0)1303 863 509 [email protected] [email protected] For a change, we did have an airshow this year, on 22nd July, or should one say a ‘fly by’ to celebrate the centenary of the RAF; we had an impromptu car rally on the gloriously hot and dry day - at its peak there were 73 cars on site at 3pm, and a spectacularly large crown of onlookers - in goodly part no doubt for the cars, as the fly by comprised at 1:15pm a Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane, and at 5pm the Red Arrows - that was certainly spectacular and well worth waiting for. Our ‘Grand Oldtimers Car Club’, meeting on the second Wednesday of the month at The Grand, now has 60 members , with 15-20 coming to the monthly meets and a group attending many of the car rallies mainly in Kent during the summer season. Other ideas are in contemplation, particularly being able to advise on local businesses for maintenance and restoration work. The club has provided the judges for today’s event; we do, however, rely on you and our visitors to vote for the car you would most like to take home with you - voting slips are available from HQ at the top of The Grand’s Palm Court steps from 2pm, with the final count being made just before the prize giving at 3.30pm. -

Arnold Wilson tells the tale WHAT are the chances of finding a 1953 car which has had only one owner from new, has only 7,629 miles on the clock and has not turned a wheel for 35 years? The Triumph Mayflower fitting this description was registered on August 1, 1953 at Horsmonden in Kent but, the following spring, torrential rainfall caused the local river Telse to flood, half submerging the car.
