hat an incredible turn-out we hadW for the Labour Day Sunday full-day drive! Twenty cars gathered at the Tim Hor- ton’s on Trafalgar Road for a 9:45 A.M. de- parture, destined for a lunch stop at Con- estogo and an ultimate stop at Gord and Fanny Linkletter’s home on Erbsville Road, Waterloo to inspect Gord’s amazing collec- tion of British, French and American classic cars. An additional nine cars representing members from the Guelph-Waterloo area met up with us at our first rest stop at the WMCA on Woodland Glen Drive in Guelph, making this the largest attendance at one of our holiday week-end drives, started some years ago by the authors as im- promptu drives over the back roads west of Mississauga/Oakville. In the beginning, we were grateful to have five or six at- tendees, usually comprised of friends from the Toronto Triumph Club and the MG Car Club of Toronto. It is heartening to find the interest level growing within our Club for this type of event and we would welcome members living in other areas picking up BRITISH CAR the reins and organising similar types of drives in their local areas. At some point, a section of the group took the more direct route via Ariss while two other groups followed Gord’s lead (and Dave’s printed instructions) to travel via Maryhill and a cov- ered bridge over the Grand River but somehow these two groups ended up meeting each other coming from opposite directions! In any event, everyone eventually arrived at the lunch stop and our group of 53 partook of an excellent brunch buffet. After lunch, Gord and Fanny led us on a circuitous route across the northern environs of Waterloo via St. Jacobs, Hawkesville, St. Clements and Paradise Lake to their home on Erbsville Road in west Waterloo where Gord had placed ten of his cars around the rear of the property, including a 1931 Peerless, a 1934 Packard, a 1934 Buick, and a 1941 Cadillac, while still leaving room for our 29 Triumphs to park while a trio of Gallic beauties (a Citroën Traction Avant, the ca- nary yellow and funky Citroën 2CV and the gorgeous 1973 Citroën DS23) as well as a 1953 Studebaker Starlight coupé were left in the main garage showroom. A couple of more recent Corvettes (1958 and 1977) closed out the American tin work while the British cars in the collection included a Hillman Super Minx owned by his brother- in-law and of course, Gord’s four Triumph Stags. As Dave commented later, “To see them positioned around the property was just like go- ing to Cobble Beach; the difference being that most of Gord’s cars get to work for a living!” Our route back to the GTA area was via Erbsville Road and Ira Needles Boulevard to Waterloo Regional Road 97 to Hwy 8 and on to Hwy 5 back to Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville, Mississauga or Toron-
