Everest Skydive Detailed Sample Itinerary 2016 EVEREST SKYDIVE DETAILED SAMPLE ITINERARY 2016 Day 1 Arrive Kathmandu/ Transfer to the Hotel You will be picked up on your arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu and then transferred to your hotel Godavari Village Resort (http://www.godavariresort.com.np), a perfect retreat to relax and recuperate from your flight. You will be briefed in the afternoon and have time to get familiar with your fellow members from all around the world before going to the famous Rum Doodle Restaurant for a dinner. Day 2 Sightseeing and getting familiar with the Kathmandu Kathmandu Valley is the historical and cultural epicenter of Nepal and well contended for having 7 UNESCO World heritage sites. No visitors can avoid relishing the elegance of the valley. The city offers a wonderful concoction of Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism and Western influence in its immediate vicinity. There will be a half-day guided tour to the famous and biggest Hindu shrine Pashupatinath, and the holiest Buddhist sites Boudhanath, and Swayambhunath. Afterwards you will pack your light mountain bags, which will be given to you, and leave the rest of your luggage in the hotel until you return from your expedition. Day 3 Fly to Lukla (2,900m) / Trek to Phakding (2,656m) The flight to Lukla, Solu Khumbu (the main gateway to Mt Everest – 29,035ft) takes about 45 minutes. In Lukla, you will meet your trek support team, your porters and the yaks. Once all the large kit bags and equipment have been allocated to porters and yaks, we will start walking along the Dhud Khosi Valley close to the river, and slowly meander up and down well- constructed paths through the villages to Phakding. We spend the night there, in one of the comfortable local lodges like Star Lodge and Sunrise Lodge. Day 4 Trek to Namche (3,450m) After an early call and “bed tea”, coffee or hot chocolate, a bowl of warm washing water will be brought to your room. Once dressed, we recommend you to pack before breakfast so that the porters can get on their way as soon as they are ready. From Phakding, we crisscross the rivers on high suspension bridges to Monjo, which marks the entrance to the Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. We then take a steep long trek to Namche Bazaar (11,320ft), the main trading capital in Khumbu. The Sherpa capital has a busy Saturdays’ market – a meeting place for the Hindu traders from the lowlands and the Tibetan yak caravans that have crossed the glaciated Nangpa La Pass. Surprisingly enough, even in this far-flung region, you will spend night in well- facilitated hotel like Sherpa Land (http://www.hotelsherpaland.com), catering for all your needs. Day 5 Rest day in Namche (3,450m) – Meet & Brief Namche is tucked away between two ridges amidst the giant peaks of the Khumbu and has an abundance of lodges, tea houses and souvenir shops as well as a magnificent outlook that seems to meet western standards, even at this remote mountain outpost. Well, the experience can be petrifying as you will witness the miniature of whole Himalayan life at its bloom. It is an ideal place to spend a relaxing day to acclimatize to your newly gained altitude. Opportunities for acclimatization’ walks include a visit to the Khunde hospital, which was set-up by Sir Edmund Hillary, or an hour walk up for the sunset view of Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Lhotse and Everest. You will meet the ‘advanced party’ of management staff and crew, who may well have left Kathmandu to trek before you. Day 6 Trek to Syangboche (3,810m) / Jump Day Syangboche Airport is just a 45 minute walk from Namche Bazar. With the unpaved runway length of 400m, it is the highest point to reach by aircraft to Everest. Though not licensed for commercial operations, the airstrip is operated for short take off and landing for chartered flights. The place is proud to be one of the dropping zones for Everest Skydive. The management staff and crew will meet and brief you, and familiarize you with the equipment and routines that will apply to the drop zone during the parachuting program. The familiarization and briefings will be for both solo and tandem jumpers. Solo jumpers will do adaptation jumps from the PC-6 aircraft or the AS 350 B3 Helicopter. After your whole day of bustle, you will end up relaxing in one of the prime hotels of Syanboche – the Hotel Panorama or the Everest View (http://www.hoteleverestview.com). Please Note: The drop zone is a strict alcohol-free zone for everyone, including observers, at all times. Day 7 – 10 Jump days Here we are-all prepared for our Big Day! With Mt. Everest witnessing the whole event, Everest Skydive will take place on these days from the height of 29,500ft if used PC-6, or 23000ft in case of using a Helicopter. You will exit with your tandem instructor and aerial cameraman or jumpmaster. The Director of Parachuting Operations will plan the jump days by considering the weather window and safety. Day 10 Helicopter transfer to Lukla airstrip from where we take a plane to Kathmandu. Free Day in Kathmandu. This work is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution International License (CC BY). http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Abstract Sagarmatha National Park and Buffer Zone (SNPBZ) in the Everest region in Nepal is among the most popular destinations for trekking tourism in Nepal. The dramatic growth of the tourism in- dustry has increased pressures on the environment and the National Park is heavily affected by the rapidly growing waste issue. Besides, major mass movements play an important role in the Himalaya and have been observed in SNPBZ. Also, seasonal monsoon floods, debris flows, rock falls, landslides and the creation of glacial lake outburst floods are frequently occurring in the re- gion. This paper explores the reciprocal interactions between the geo-environment and solid waste management in Everest’s SNPBZ. Therefore, geological characteristics and geomorphologi- cal processes, especially the two large rockslides in Lukla and Khumjung, as well as their conse- quences for rock quality, climatic and hydrologic conditions, are analyzed and simultaneously connected to the rapidly growing tourism-induced waste issue.
