Lyric’s wigs are flat-ironed straight or curled with a marcel iron; a Marie Antoinette wig was created using a ¾” marcel iron and white-color spray. Jean and Paula’s (Paula = set in pin curls) curls were created with a ¾” marcel iron and Redken Hot Sets. Aparna’s hair is blow-dried straight and ends flipped up with a metal round brush. But before the dwarf is able to etch the runes of war, he requires a powerful artifact in exchange. On the journey, Wednesday tells Shadow the story of Donar the Great, set in a 1930’s Burlesque Cabaret flashback. Technical Description Mr. Weds slicked for Cabaret and two 1930-40’s inspired styles. Mr. Nancy was finger-waved. Donar wore long and medium lace wigs and a short haircut for time cuts. Columbia wore a lace wig ironed and pin curled for movement. TechBoy wore short lace wig. Showgirls wore wigs and wig caps backstage audience men in feminine styles women in masculine styles. -
When the Superheroes Emerged in the Late 1930S and Early 1940S They
Kameshia Shepherd The Superhero Genre: Exhibitions Which Explore the Identities, Costumes, and Missions of the Superheroes When the superheroes emerged in the late 1930s and early 1940s they had dual identities, sidekicks, powers and abilities, arch-villains, a costume, a moral code, and a top-secret headquarters but a lawsuit in 1940 established identity, power, and mission as the fundamental attributes of the superhero genre. According to Peter Coogan in Superhero: The Secret Origin of a Genre, Judge Learned Hand estab- lished these three elements in a copyright and infringement lawsuit between two comic book companies. In the case of Detective Comics, Inc. v. Bruns Publica- tions, Inc., DC Comics filed a suit which claimed that Bruns Publication’s super- hero Wonder Man was a duplicate of their character Superman. Judge Learned Hand agreed and stated in his ruling that Wonder Man copied Superman’s dual identities, various powers, and pro-social mission. Based on this copyright law- suit, Coogan argued that Judge Hand had unknowingly provided the definitional characteristics of a superhero.1 Coogan took Judge Hand’s interpretation a step further by combing all of the elements of Hand’s verdict to comprise his own definition. Coogan’s superhero is: A heroic character with a selfless, pro-social mission; with superpowers-extraordinary abilities, advanced technology, or highly developed physical, mental, or mystical skills; who has a superhero identity embodied in a codename and iconic costume, which typi- cally expresses his [or her] biography, -

As of 2017, the top ten movies enjoying domestic U.S. grosses in the $500 million to $1 billion range were all pointedly spec- tacular productions, such as the dinosaur theme- park adventure Jurassic World (Colin Trevorrow, 2015) and Christopher Nolan’s IMAX Batman epic The Dark Knight (2007); spots two and three belonged to Avatar (2009) and Titanic (1997), brainchildren of writer- director James Cam- eron, a “technological auteur” renowned for his cutting- edge use of visual effects technologies;1 and two others, The Avengers (Joss Whedon, 2012) and Avengers: Age of Ultron (Joss Whedon, 2015), assembled teams of amazing superheroes to combat world- destroying villains. -

Another educational program from SEEING is BELIEVING Dear Educator: urriculum specialists Young Minds Inspired (YMI), in Ccooperation with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, is proud to present this newest addition to our series of study guides that focus on different branches of the Academy. In this guide, students will learn about the subject of visual effects. The kits have been designed for students in English, language arts, visual arts, science and communications classes. As former teachers, we know that these critical-thinking activities capitalize on students’ natural interest in current films and the excitement generated by the Academy Awards®. The Academy, organized in 1927, is a professional honorary organization composed of more than 6,000 motion picture craftsmen and women. Its purposes include advancing the art and science of motion pictures; promoting cooperation among creative leaders for cultural, educational, and technological progress; recognizing outstanding achievements; and fostering educational activities between the professional community and the public. Academy members are the people who create movies—the cream of the industry’s actors, animators, art © A.M.P.A.S.® directors, cinematographers, costume designers, directors, film editors, documentarians, makeup artists, composers, producers, sound and visual effects experts, writers and other contributors.
