(Sunny, Wangko. Hermita illucens Aspek Forensik kesehatan dan ekonomi. Jurnal 11 Biomedik (JMD), Vol. 6, No. 1 (Maret 2014), h. 24-25) dalam skripsi Lisa Fatmasari 2. Jurnal Wartazoa., Vol. 26. No. 2, (Juni 2016), h. 70.) (Tomberlin JK, Sheppard DC. Factors influencing mating and oviposition of Black Soldier Flies (Diptera: Stratiomyidae) in a colony. J Entolomogy Sci. (Mei 2002).

State-of-the-art on use of insects as animal feed Harinder P.S. Makkar1, Gilles Tran2, Valérie Heuzé2 and Philippe Ankers1 1 Animal Production and Health Division, FAO, Rome 2 Association Française de Zootechnie, Paris, France Full reference of the paper: Animal Feed Science and Technology, Volume 197, November 2014, pages 1-33 Link: http://www.animalfeedscience.com/article/S0377-8401(14)00232-6/abstract http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.anifeedsci.2014.07.008 Abstract A 60-70% increase in consumption of animal products is expected by 2050. This increase in the consumption will demand enormous resources, the feed being the most challenging because of the limited availability of natural resources, ongoing climatic changes and food-feed-fuel competition. The costs of conventional feed resources such as soymeal and fishmeal are very high and moreover their availability in the future will be limited. Insect rearing could be a part of the solutions. Although some studies have been conducted on evaluation of insects, insect larvae or insect meals as an ingredient in the diets of some animal species, this field is in infancy. Here we collate, synthesize and discuss the available information on five major insect species studied with respect to evaluation of their products as animal feed. The nutritional quality of black soldier fly larvae, the house fly maggots, mealworm, locusts- grasshoppers-crickets, and silkworm meal and their use as a replacement of soymeal and fishmeal in the diets of poultry, pigs, fish species and ruminants are discussed. The crude protein contents of these alternate resources are high: 42 to 63% and so are the lipid contents (up to 36% oil), which could possibly be extracted and used for various applications including biodiesel production.

Thus, tremendous efforts have been placed on mass-production of the black soldier fly. Currently, little is known about the thermal tolerance limits of black soldier fly eggs and immatures. The objective of this study was to determine the lower temperature threshold for black soldier fly development. Development time, egg eclosion and adult emergence success were measured at 12, 16 and 19 °C. We determined that the lower threshold for egg hatch was between 12 and 16 °C, taking 15 days to hatch. Furthermore, we determined that the lower temperature threshold for larvae is between 16 and 19 °C with egg hatch in 7.75 days at 19 °C. Mean development time from egg to adult at 19 °C was 72 days. Proceedings of the United States National Museum SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION . WASHINGTON, D.C. Volume 121 1967 Number 3569 SOLDIER FLY LARVAE IN AMERICA NORTH OF MEXICO ' By Max W. McFadden ^ The Stratiomyidae or soldier flies are represented in America north of Mexico by approximately 237 species distributed through 37 genera. Prior to this study, larvae have been described for only 21 species representmg 15 genera. In addition to the lack of adequate descriptions and keys, classification has seldom been attempted and a phylogenetic treatment of the larvae has never been presented. The present study has been undertaken with several goals in mind: to rear and describe (1) as many species as possible; (2) to redescribe all previously described larvae of North American species; and (3), on the basis of larval characters, to attempt to define various taxo- nomic units and show phylogenetic relationships withm the family and between it and other closely related familes. Any attempt to establish subfamilial and generic lunits must be regarded as tentative. This is especially true in the present study since larvae of so many species of Stratiomyidae remain unknown. Undoubtably, as more species are reared, changes mil have to be made in keys and definitions of taxa. The keys have been prepared chiefly for identification of last mstar larvae. If earher mstars are known, they either have been 1 Modified from a Ph. D. dissertation submitted to the University of Alberta E(hnonton, Canada. ' 2 Entomology Research Division, U.S. Dept. F. Christian Thompson Neal L. Evenhuis and Curtis W. Sabrosky Bibliography of the Family-Group Names of Diptera Bibliography Thompson, F. C, Evenhuis, N. L. & Sabrosky, C. W. The following bibliography gives full references to 2,982 works cited in the catalog as well as additional ones cited within the bibliography. A concerted effort was made to examine as many of the cited references as possible in order to ensure accurate citation of authorship, date, title, and pagination. References are listed alphabetically by author and chronologically for multiple articles with the same authorship. In cases where more than one article was published by an author(s) in a particular year, a suffix letter follows the year (letters are listed alphabetically according to publication chronology). Authors' names: Names of authors are cited in the bibliography the same as they are in the text for proper association of literature citations with entries in the catalog. Because of the differing treatments of names, especially those containing articles such as "de," "del," "van," "Le," etc., these names are cross-indexed in the bibliography under the various ways in which they may be treated elsewhere. For Russian and other names in Cyrillic and other non-Latin character sets, we follow the spelling used by the authors themselves. Dates of publication: Dating of these works was obtained through various methods in order to obtain as accurate a date of publication as possible for purposes of priority in nomenclature. Dates found in the original works or by outside evidence are placed in brackets after the literature citation.

Christensen et al.: Acquired Natural Enemies of Oxyops vitiosa 1 ACQUIRED NATURAL ENEMIES OF THE WEED BIOLOGICAL CONTROL AGENT OXYOPS VITIOSA (COLEPOTERA: CURCULIONIDAE) ROBIN M. CHRISTENSEN, PAUL D. PRATT, SHERYL L. COSTELLO, MIN B. RAYAMAJHI AND TED D. CENTER USDA/ARS, Invasive Plant Research Laboratory, 3225 College Ave., Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33314 ABSTRACT The Australian curculionid Oxyops vitiosa Pascoe was introduced into Florida in 1997 as a biological control agent of the invasive tree Melaleuca quinquenervia (Cav.) S. T. Blake. Pop- ulations of the weevil increased rapidly and became widely distributed throughout much of the invasive tree’s adventive distribution. In this study we ask if O. vitiosa has acquired nat- ural enemies in Florida, how these enemies circumvent the protective terpenoid laden exu- dates on larvae, and what influence 1 of the most common natural enemies has on O. vitiosa population densities? Surveys of O. vitiosa populations and rearing of field-collected individ- uals resulted in no instances of parasitoids or pathogens exploiting weevil eggs or larvae. In contrast, 44 species of predatory arthropods were commonly associated (>5 individuals when pooled across all sites and sample dates) with O. vitiosa. Eleven predatory species were ob- served feeding on O. vitiosa during timed surveys, including 6 pentatomid species, 2 formi- cids and 3 arachnids. Species with mandibulate or chelicerate mouthparts fed on adult stages whereas pentatomids, with haustellate beaks, pierced larval exoskeletons thereby by- passing the protective larval coating. Observations of predation were rare, with only 8% of timed surveys resulting in 1 or more instances of attack. Feeding by the pentatomid Podisus mucronatus Uhler accounted for 76% of all recorded predation events.

INSECTS OF MICRONESIA Diptera: Stratiomyidae; Calliphoridae1 By MAURICE T. JAMES WASHINGTON STATE UNIVERSITY PULLMAN, WASHINGTON STRATIOMYIDAE INTRODUCTION Comparatively few records of Stratiomyidae from Micronesia appear in the literature. Three species were originally described from Micronesia: Lopho teles plumula Loew, from the Radak Chain of the Marshall Islands, and Para cechorismenus guamae James and Cephalochrysa infuscata James from Guam. Bohart and Gressitt (1951) 2 have recorded H ermetia illucens (Linnaeus) and Microchrysa flaviventris (Wiedemann), and James (1950) has added Wallacea albiseta de Meijere, probably the subspecies herein described as new, from Guam. In works dealing with other Pacific areas, Hardy and James have treated the very limited Hawaiian fauna (Insects of Hawaii 10: 307-319, 1%0), and Bezzi, Ricardo, Lindner, James, and others have dealt, either frag mentarily or comprehensively, with the family as it occurs in Fiji, Samoa, some of the islands of the East Indies, the Solomon Islands, New Caledonia, and Okinawa. The present study is based on a collection of more than 800 specimens rep resenting 24 species. By way of comparison, James recorded 30 species from the Solomon Islands, and Lindner, 22 species from Ceylon. It is noteworthy that all Micronesian species are either known or probable scavengers in the larval stage; aquatic Stratiomyinae and aquatic tribes of Clitellariinae are entirely absent from the known fauna. The same is true of the Hawaiian and Samoan faunas, but not of those of the Solomon Islands, New Caledonia, Fiji, or even Okinawa, from which island one stratiomyine is recorded. Scavengers in this family spread much more readily and rapidly than do the aquatic forms; 1 Representing, in part, Results of Professor T.

E-mails: [email protected], [email protected] Introduction The latest list of Lithuanian Diptera included 3311 species (Pakalniškis et al., 2006) and later publications during the past nine years added about 220 more, mainly from the following families: Nematocera: Limoniidae and Tipulidae (Podėnas, 2008), Trichoceridae (Petrašiūnas & Visarčuk, 2007; Petrašiūnas, 2008), Chironomidae (Móra & Kovács, 2009), Bolitophilidae, Keroplatidae, Mycetophilidae and Sciaridae (Kurina et al., 2011); Brachycera: Asilidae (Lutovinovas, 2012a), Syrphidae (Lutovinovas, 2007; 2012b; Lutovinovas & Kinduris, 2013), Pallopteridae (Lutovinovas, 2013), Ulidiidae (Lutovinovas & Petrašiūnas, 2013), Tephritidae (Lutovinovas, 2014), Fanniidae and Muscidae (Lutovinovas, 2007; Lutovinovas & Rozkošný, 2009), Tachinidae (Lutovinovas, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012c). Fauna of only the few Diptera families in Lithuania (out of 90 families recorded) is studied comparatively better (e.g. Agromyzidae, Limoniidae, Simuliidae, Syrphidae, Tipulidae, Tachinidae), with majority of the families getting weaker or only sporadic attention, if at all. New species are being recorded every time and more effort is devoted, proving that there is still much to do in Diptera research in Lithuania. The following publication provides new data on fifteen Diptera families in Lithuania with most attention paid to several anthophilous families (e.g. Bombyliidae, Conopidae and Stratiomyidae). Material and Methods Most specimens were caught by sweeping the vegetation and the few others were identified from photographs.

The first detailed description of larvae of Ptecticus Loew is presented for P. brunettii and P. flavifemoratus from West Malaysia. There are pronounced morphological and behavioural differences be tween the last larval instar, inside whose cast cuticle the pupa remains, and earlier instars. The larval mouthparts are similar to those of other known Stratiomyidae larvae but may display a set of autapomor- phic characters. The structure of the mandibular-maxillary complex suggests that larvae of Ptecticus are micropantophagous scavengers that feed chiefly upon microorganisms. The larvae of both species are as sociated with decaying bamboo shoots; P. brunettii inhabits the space between the culm sheaths and P. flavifemoratus lives in water-filled shoot stumps. This is the first record of aquatic Sarginae larvae and egg plastron in the Stratiomyidae. The life cycle and behaviour of P. brunettii and P. flavifemoratus is de scribed and the resource partitioning of stratiomyids and xylomyids associated with bamboo is discussed. INTRODUCTION Stratiomyidae and Xylomyidae are the only families among the lower Brachycera (Or- thorrapha) in which the pupae are formed within the hardened skin of the last larval instar (overview see McFadden, 1967; Rozkošný, 1982; Smith, 1989).

Insects associated with the composting process of solid urban waste separated at the source. Sarcosaprophagous macroinvertebrates (earthworms, termites and a number of Diptera larvae) enhance changes in the physical and chemical properties of organic matter during degradation and stabilization processes in composting, causing a decrease in the molecular weights of compounds. This activity makes these organisms excellent recyclers of organic matter. This article evaluates the succession of insects associated with the decomposition of solid urban waste separated at the source. The study was carried out in the city of Medellin, Colombia. A total of 11,732 individuals were determined, belonging to the classes Insecta and Arachnida. Species of three orders of Insecta were identified, Diptera, Coleoptera and Hymenoptera. Diptera corresponding to 98.5% of the total, was the most abundant and diverse group, with 16 families (Calliphoridae, Drosophilidae, Psychodidae, Fanniidae, Muscidae, Milichiidae, Ulidiidae, Scatopsidae, Sepsidae, Sphaeroceridae, Heleomyzidae, Stratiomyidae, Syrphidae, Phoridae, Tephritidae and Curtonotidae) followed by Coleoptera with five families (Carabidae, Staphylinidae, Ptiliidae, Hydrophilidae and Phalacaridae). Three stages were observed during the composting process, allowing species associated with each stage to be identified. Other species were also present throughout the whole process.
