Page 2 20 comments, I know a lot of people hate about RL here and I'm not going to try to change anyone's mind about it, but there was something I'm so disappointed that they haven't worked in the story. We see Hyuk's brother coming home in distress as he hit someone in a car accident. Hyuk takes responsibility for his brother, but eventually their father blames Jae-Hoon's father. We also know that Joons' father is dead. We see him being suicidal, but it seems that Joon is preventing him from taking his life because she needs him. He always ends up dying one way or another and you never find out why. I was so disappointed that they did not link the car accident to the death of his father, because he would have bought his father, that he did not take his own life, made Hyuk's brother in the ultimate villain, and was a hidden link between the 3 tracks. Jae-hoon would have had his reason for finally turning against Hyuk's brother because he was the reason his father went to prison, and he killed the father of the girl he loved. Hyuk would have had his reasoning to overthrow his brother in the company, because of all the grief he caused Joon and his best friend. It was the perfect way to really link the story together and they didn't do it. As you may have noticed, r/kdramarecommends has a new rotating banner; as a way to encourage us to submit good dramas to appear on the new banner is using some horrible. Whenever there is a list of the worst kdramas, these regularly make an appearance. However, I would like to would not say that these dramas are not worth a watch, nor that they are the worst kdramaland has to offer. And I know it's a weird thing to say since these dramas might make no sense, have ridiculously gaping plot holes or can make you properly furious, but, bear me, they can still pull your emotions and that means they're not the worst. Of course they're bad, but you're going to about it, maybe enough to post a scathing review on r/KDRAMA or mydrama. In my opinion, the worst dramas are the ones you'll end up watching, but won't remember: the blandest. They're probably romcoms, they had a plot, they had passable actors, an OST, were filmed in good places and you didn't let them down. But can you remember what it was about? Did you really love them? Can you remember a single scene that made you laugh, feel hot or angry? The worst kdramas are those who play it so sure that they blend into nothingness. They had odds agreed, but rarely be recommended - it's a timeslot filling. Here I'll even list a few: That Man Oh so - that I watched 16 hours of and have no memory of. Vaguely, I remember a coffee with a brass coffee maker, but that's it. No idea of the plot, nor the characters. Then there was Jugglers and it's incredibly depressing summary that tells you pretty much not even KBS thought it was a good idea. It was centered on a male lead that showed no emotions on his face that made him about as interesting as looking at the dry paint. I remember the bad guy was an office worker. Also forgettable was Rich Man, a moderately anticipated remake of an amazing Japanese drama that removed all that is good on the original and reused the house of Uncontrollable Fond. I would say I remember the plot, but it's actually the plot of the Original Japanese. Finally, there was the border case of revolutionary love, which had a cast with amazing meme potential and somehow completely missed its chance to shine despite a pretty good OST. Now, and excuse the intro too long, here's why you might want to give the terrible, horrible, very bad kdramas on the banner a chance: Bride of Habaek's weak points are its plot, female lead and end. And yes, that's about it, but let's be honest, you won't be watching it because of it all. You're going to watch it because Netflix keeps pushing you to do it and the male lead is Nam Joo Hyuk, who is an extremely handsome man whether or not he wears the very vaguely Greek inspired god of water outfit. Oh, and did I mention that him being a water god means he spends a ridiculous amount of time in the water? Naked torso? Other than that, the rest of the cast is also very beautiful and the costumes/places are very pretty. It's a style on substance drama all the way and that can really blame you for watching it; just make sure to check out the final discussion on air over on r/KDRAMA to see how mad everyone was on the end. Hyde, Jekyll, is the perfect drama for CLOY fans who think Hyun Bin can't hurt and is the greatest gift to humanity and all the other dramas are not worth your time except for CLOY and did I mention Captain Ri is a god on Earth, you should really watch CLOY and fix your life. Well, well, well, I guess you haven't seen Hyun Bin in Hyde, Jekyll, Jekyll, it's a shock prefect drama to make you watch other kdramas. I swear, just the first episode is enough to reset your inner kdrama notation counter. Hyun Bin plays the cold, the distant boss guy who runs an amusement park (and a hotel empire? and something else? idk, he's a chaebol, ok) and the drama begins with the female lead tour says amusement park that to be confronted with a crawling CGI gorilla who somehow got out of the amusement park circus. Of course, our heroine is actually a certified animal tamer/human psychologist who makes her confident in her abilities to solve everything peacefully. Only, she doesn't have the power to do that, because Hyun Bin shoots the gorilla before she can do anything. And then a little later, Hyun Bin gets checked and transforms into his other wild personality who decides that female lead is the only one that can tame his heart (eugh). Pass at the end of the episode and they are stuck on top of a Disney-like/hotel castle being pursued by ninja murderers so they decide to use the not-to-all-conveniently placed zip line to escape flying over the entire amusement park while there are fireworks in the background. It's terribly bad and, therefore, perfect. Oh My Grace is the answer to your how bad could webdramas been filmed by Americans with an extremely limited understanding of kdramas and Korean culture to be? question. It is a bad wish-fulfillment fanfic that has come to life and so infuriating terrible in every single aspect. It has the dubious honor of being the only drama I've ever written a mydralist review as a PSA to those who might consider watching it in the future. I think I called it a dumpster fire and I was nice. Blood is one of two kdramas that I debated by placing on the banner; Actually, I like it. And before I'm put on and left in the sun, let me say why this vampire/medical drama is actually worth a watch. It has an incredible OST (this song is probably the least popular, but I still love it) and I mean both the songs and the epic instruments of classical music. In addition, there is the most adorable side character and robot helper you will ever see and strangely convincing cringy vampire CGI. It is also beautifully filmed, has neat combat scenes and some beautiful nature locations. The plot has surprising and sometimes heartbreaking twists and actually poses some interesting philosophical questions. Could they have made the plot more meaningful? Yes. And why have the characters repeatedly made stupid decisions Threatening? I have no idea. Does quasi-science make sense? Nothing at all. Should you give him a chance? Maybe. My Secret Romance is probably the second kdrama you're likely to start watching because Netflix wants you, despite having oh-so-many better ones available. But the poster is cute and adorable and doesn't it look like a fun romcom? Too bad it's featured Hoon. He is very handsome, a really good person and a great member of the cast on the variety show Home Alone, but the man can not choose a good kdrama project to save his life. A good way to identify a bad drama is if it's featured in it (including Noble My Love and The Idolm@ster), and a good way to identify a good drama is if it has a supporting role (Oh My Venus and Five Enough). He starts off strong, with a one-night stand (shock and horror in the conservative SK) and everything will go down from there, as he intimidates him in the kitchen for him and the development of Stockholm syndrome (?). This is your typical dominating CEO and shy, sweet, poor, female lead romance wallflower. The plot is sorely lacking, acting is wrong and the decisions are all beyond stupid. The man faints because he forgets to eat, hires a nutritionist and then refuses to eat his meals in order to make her fall in love with him is essentially the whole plot. Why you should look at it: the secretary's amazing costumes and also the fact that he is an incredibly wealthy CEO of a men's underwear company that is obviously a great PPL (Sung Hoon is the IRL brand representative) and it's hilarious. I swear, you're going to laugh at your head. The company is called Lashevan and it has some pretty interesting ideas that they promote using seriously scientific methods. Abyss is one of those dramas that promised a lot and delivered nothing. It has a premise full of potential, great actors and a high budget, but then proceeds to the wreck with a poorly developed plot and dull script writing. You will start watching it because of the distribution; there's the amazing Park Bo Young (Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, Oh My Ghostess) and Ahn Hyo Seop who you fell in love with while watching Father is strange, romantic Doctor Kim 2 and Thirty but Seventeen. And you'll end up hating him in the last ten minutes when everything goes to hell after 16 sinuous episodes. It takes talent to destroy things so badly. The Heirs is a drama you only have to watch. Period. However, don't approach it as a regular kdrama or you'll hate it and end up being one of those people who claim heirs is trash and how everyone who loves it is stupid. What you really need is context to understand why it's so much fun. I'll link to it because I'm too lazy to copy everything here, but here's a tl;dr - it's supposed to be a language-in-cheek parody of popular kdrama tropes. Here is the link explaining why the heirs is actually great. is an interesting case of a kdrama that has all the characteristics good drama, but ends up being abandoned more often than a baby rattle. There's Ji Chang Wook as a secret agent/bodyguard which means he's obviously handsome, sometimes shirtless, mostly looking amazing in sharp suits and shooting guns. Should I go on? Anyway, there's also an intriguing and independent woman villain, who is a real real Rarity. The action scenes are fierce (a JCW specialty) and the filming budget was really high. Too bad the plot is so. Boring. The female lead is a soulless decoration, even by kdrama standards, without will or agency of its own and drags all the intrigue and drama down. I tried to watch it three times, but I couldn't finish it. So here I'm going to save you time by providing a link to the two most important scenes in the drama of the first 3 episodes; the car chase scene (part 1 and part 2) and the incredibly censored public bath fight scene. Blade Man is the final drama in the banner, and the second one I really liked. I admit it; the plot makes no sense whats me going on. I don't mean any. It starts a little weird and then takes off from there breaking any reason or continuity of the plot. It's like watching a car accident in real time; you can't stop it, but you can't stop looking. What happened to the plot with which we started? What happened to the side plots we abandoned along the way? What was the point of this drama? Why can he fly suddenly? Is that a metaphor or is it actually happening? You will get no idea, no explanation and no solid reasoning. So lie down and enjoy it. Dong Wook is the male lead whose ability to gush randomly from the blades of his body is not as catchy as his fabulous fashion sense (worth looking just for his amazing Disney costumes, shirts and Disney sweaters alone) and Shin Se Kyung is a modern snow white if there was no evil stepmother and she had to take care of a bunch of absurdly cute young programmers. It's adorable and you're going to laugh a lot. There is also a single parent scenario and a scene thief secretary, all beautifully filmed. I know, it's a lot of info and these dramas are objectively bad (except the heirs; The heirs are the best). Yet if you have one thing to watch bad dramas or just want to take a break and laugh at the absurdity of it all, these should be on your shortlist. We all watch dramas because they are entertaining and I can guarantee you that all our banner dramas will do just that, if perhaps in a somewhat unorthodox way. So choose the one that hits your fantasy and you won't regret it in a good way. Edit: typosPage 2 2
