“Celebrating Safely” Live Presentation Script

The following script can be performed by students.

DIRECTING TIPS:  Do NOT use actual alcohol in the presentation  DO show all students except Kelsey, Mike, and Chase having fun doing non-drinking activities  Do NOT dress characters in revealing or provocative clothing.  Do NOT have any characters other than Kelsey or Mike act drunk.

CAST: 4 Females 3 Males 10

SCENE 1: Girls Getting Ready

KELSEY, TIFFANY and LACY are getting ready for prom. The girls apply makeup as LAURIE looks on as her little sister getting ready for a big night. Pump-up music plays in the background.

KELSEY: (putting on eyeliner) Done. LACY: All that's left is your eyebrows! Let me do them. KELSEY: Lace, you're probably gonna draw a unibrow on me. TIFFANY: Yeah probably. Laurie exits LACY: Any other night, yeah I would. But it's prom!! I want you to look your best! Lacy starts to draw on Kelsey’s eyebrows. KELSEY: Finneee!! LAURIE: Here are your drinks ladies. All girls take a sip. Kelsey says what they're all thinking. KELSEY: There's no alcohol in this. LAURIE: I know. LACY: This is good. TIFFANY: mmmm. Yes, this IS really good. Thanks. Okay, I want to make a toast to Kelsey, for getting into her dream school! KELSEY: Aww thanks! To all of us! To having the best prom ever! LAURIE: But really, if any of you need anything, please call me. I want to make sure each of you girls has my number. Give me your phones. The girls take out their phones and Laurie puts her number in each of them. LACY: We'll be good. The only place where there's no rules is on the dance floor. The girls playfully dance. Laurie gives a concerned look.

SCENE 2: After-Party!

The girls walk into the after party at Mike's house. We see groups of teens involved in a variety of activities that do not involve alcohol or other drugs. Playing games, talking, dancing, etc.

MIKE: Tiffany! Lacy! So good to see you! TIFFANY: Thanks for hosting! Did you have fun at prom? MIKE: Yeah... I mean I think I would have had more fun if they didn't play the same band over and over… LACY: I hear you…the music kinda sucked. 11

JOSH: (with a smile) Kinda? KELSEY: Oh, hi Mike. MIKE: Kelsey! I see you. Tiffany and Lacy give Josh a look, like "Let's leave these two alone." They walk away, leaving Mike and Kelsey to talk alone. MIKE: Girl, I was watching. You killed it on the dance floor. KELSEY: I’ve been practicing. Alone…in my room… Mike laughs and puts his arm around Kelsey. MIKE: You're funny. Wanna dance? KELSEY: Okay. CHASE yells from the makeshift “bar” area. It appears that only he and Mike have been drinking. CHASE: Yo Mikey Mike! Free shots! MIKE: Thanks man, I’m good for now. Kels, do you know Chase? KELSEY: Not really. But, hi. MIKE: Do you want some? KELSEY: Okay thanks. Chase pours her some alcohol. CHASE: Really man, you’re gonna let a girl drink alone? No one else here is drinking. Don’t you want to have some fun? MIKE: Alright. Chase pours him a drink. Mike fist pumps her shot glass in a fake toast. MIKE: To killer dance-moves! Kelsey holds out her shot glass to Chase. KELSEY: More please. CHASE: Yes ma’am. She downs another shot. KELSEY: I think I'll have that dance now. The two go to the dance floor.

SCENE 3: SOME GOOD AND BAD CHOICES

Much later in the night, nearing 2 am. Mike and Kelsey are on the dance floor a bit sloppy drunk. Not being too sexual but unpleasantly tipsy and Mike is being a bit obnoxious. People are looking at them like they are ruining the fun for everyone.

LACY: Wow. Kelsey is hammered. TIFFANY: We need to watch out for her. 12

LACY: It’s ok Tif, I got it. Kelsey tries to do some extreme dance move, but ends up tripping and catches herself on the couch. LACY: Woahhh party animal, you good? KELSEY: Never been better. Never been freer! I'm a dancing queen, OK? A QUEEN!! I want nothing more in this life… Kelsey throws her arms around Lacy’s shoulders, and she leans in, listening… KELSEY: (continued)…than a hamburger right now. No, I take it back, hot salty fries. OH MY GOSH LETS GET SOME FOOOOOD! JOSH: That's actually a good idea. I could use some fries right now. LACY: Me too. Let’s also get some nice cool water Kels. MIKE: I'll make a run! I'm totally sober now. Kelsey flails off the couch and wraps her arm around Mike's shoulders. KELSEY: Take me! I want to go on an adventure! LACY: You should stay and rest with us. Lay low for a bit, dancing queen. MIKE: It's all good. I'll take her. (Tiffany looks at Lacy like, “Are you sure this is ok?” All right, I'm out! We'll be back in 30!) TIFFANY: (Turns Kelsey around and walks away with her) No, actually not a good idea. Kels is staying here with us, we promised to be home soon anyway. MIKE: (Looking as the girls walk away) What the…? Starts walking out to the car. LACY: Should he be driving? JOSH: Follows Mike out to the car.

END SCENE

SCENE 4: The Car

Improvise the following: Mike gets into his car, does not put on a seat belt, he fumbles with the key in the ignition JOSH puts his head through the car window.

JOSH: Naw man, come back in. We’ll order delivery. MIKE: Pause. Uh, Okay. JOSH: Smart move. Come on.

They walk back into the house.
