Judson Seeks a Transition Minister

Judson Memorial Church in City seeks a Transition Minister to serve full-time for a term of 12 or more months starting as soon as possible. The Transition Minister will work with a team of clergy and staff as well as dedicated and skilled lay leadership in a diverse, creative and progressive urban church of 280 members in .

Judson anticipates an interim period of discernment and then a search for new senior pastoral staff. The Transition Minister may not be a candidate for a staff position beyond the interim period.

Qualifications and Experience The Transition Minister must be a fully credentialed, ordained member in good standing with the , the American Baptist Churches USA or both, and have pastoral experience in a multi-staff church. The ideal candidate will have served in pastoral ministry for at least 5 years. Candidates must have training and certification in Transition Ministry and have completed at least one successful interim pastorate.

Transition Minister Responsibilities TRANSITION FOCUSED MINISTRY ● Provide pastoral care for the congregation and staff, especially regarding interim matters such as grief work and healing. ● Support the church’s focus on issues of identity and mission, specifically and intentionally as it evaluates its past and present and plans for its future. ● Work with lay and staff leadership to identify the transformational needs of the church, to find solutions to problems, and to identify resources for supporting the church’s future. ● Assist Judson in looking at its structures and leadership models for laity and ministerial staff. ONGOING JUDSON MINISTRY ● In collaboration with Judson pastoral staff, provide worship leadership, planning and preaching. ● Work collaboratively with, but not supervise, Judson staff to facilitate ongoing programs and administration. ● Learn about and engage as needed with Judson’s public ministries and with Judson’s work in anti-racism and progress towards becoming more multicultural. ● Remain detached from the work of the search committee during the candidate selection process. ● Work within the guidelines of Judson’s personnel policies and guidelines.

Work at Judson ● Judson’s mission statement begins: Judson Memorial Church seeks to be a just, diverse, vibrant and worshipping spiritual community through the pursuit of social justice, creative expression and sacred exploration of its own Protestant church roots and the wisdom of other traditions. Both staff and congregation are very engaged with Judson’s programs in the arts, spirituality, and social justice. The use of Judson’s space expresses these commitments; there is a very high level of activity. ● Staff and lay leadership seek to maintain a collaborative work environment. Judson currently employs, on a full-time basis, a Minister, an Associate Minister, a Senior Administrator, Director of Communications and Technology, an Events Manager, a Director of Arts and Engagement, and a Property Manager. On a part time basis, Judson employs a Sunday School Director, a Music Director, a Minister of the Arts, as well as a custodial staff. Other individuals work in a variety of capacities part time to support Judson programs. ● Judson has a Community Minister intern program and an Arts program that will both continue to be led by the Minister and Associate Minister. ● Judson is committed and accountable to the social imperative of becoming an anti-racist worshipping community and in all aspects of Judson’s work, mission, and at all levels of the institution. ● As an Open, Welcoming and Affirming church, Judson asserts that all are entitled to rights, freedoms and justice, without distinction of any kind, such as race, ethnicity, gender expression, physical or mental capacity, sexual expression, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.

Compensation Judson offers salary and benefits that are commensurate with those provided to Judson’s Minister. A Housing Allowance will be designated in accordance with IRS rules. No parsonage is available. Health coverage for the Transition Minister is available if desired, as well as a Social Security offset.
